I guess my earlier references to Colorado, Oregon, and the Washingtons (DC and state) were too subtle.
Robinson is visiting VCU tomorrow (Monday) per his twitter account. His visit lasts into Tuesday. There may be a decision as soon as mid- week next week according to some sources.
If you follow @DistrictBaller on twitter you'll get some perspective on Robinson, as well as some insight into how badly VCU fans want him to enroll there.
Gotta give a shout out to VCU fans in general, they're a pretty rabid and knowledgeable fan base and there's a lot of them. I'm glad VCU is in the A10. I hope we beat them for the A10 title next season. That'll be sweet.
fingers crossed for today. would be a huge get. especially since we'd be bringing him in with a senior (if still here) EC and junior Terrell and Garrett.
Gonna have a need for guards once he clears

I'm surprised there isn't more buzz in here about this kid. He's choosing between us and VCU this afternoon. He was a top 60 talent coming out of high school. He was somewhat of a disappointment in his two years at Indiana. His numbers were not good. He admits he made mistakes there and sounds very determined to make the most of his next opportunity. Our friend District Baller is very high on him. I respect his opinion. He thinks Robinson is going to be a nightmare for other teams in the A-10. I know we're loaded with guards. But this is a '16-'17, '17-'18 signing. I think EC will probably gone. Four will be gone. We still have 3 schollies for '16 for 2 bigs and a PG. There seems to be indifference in here regarding this kid. We can't turn down a talent like this. I know I can't change Rod's mind on this one, but hopefully there will be some excitement if he chooses us. By the way, District Baller does think he'll choose us because of Dan and our facilities. I hope he's right. I'll be thrilled.
Billy I kind of feel the same way. Just been keeping quiet around here some lately. I do think that some of the lack of excitement is because he is a guard. Of course there is always a bit of an unknown and risk involved with transfers, but I'll be excited if we end up getting Robinson.
Same here, we are not nor will we likely ever be in a place to NOT get excited about a Top 60 recruit. I don't care if he is 5'1, he played as a FR at IU - I'll trust that means he can make an impact here.
This staff has proven their ability to get guards.
If this guy doesn't come here, check out all the guards
available in 2016, that we're involved with.
I'd rather keep the scholarship in case of a mid season transfer,
as we did with Iverson.
If that kind of transfer comes calling next year, we'd have to pass on him.
If Robinson is looking for playing time, by the time he gets on
the court, he'll have EC, Terrell,Thompson and whoever they sign
in 2016, to contend with as SGs. Also, Akele is a swing man.
The VCU fans are all over twitter. Saying if he picks Rhody, he'll never play a game for Hurley. Hurley is definitely gone after this year, lots of crap like that.

Its all about the timing I think. It wouldn't matter who it is, but with a "G" next to his name in the position column the reaction would be the same in my opinion.

The "Hurley is leaving" crapola is widely used against
us in recruiting. Nothing new.
Just looked and saw that Shaka only spent 6 seasons at VCU, compared to the minimum of 4 seasons that Dan will spend at URI. Certainly felt like he was at VCU much longer to me.
However, whether he transfers here, VCU or any other non-P5 school, he should be accounting for the risk that the coach could leave for a new job during your tenure. I'm not saying that he is doing this, but for a recruit to hold that against one school but not another is short-sighted thinking.
Let's face it. His stats are very off-putting, no matter how
highly rated he was.
Guards are supposed to make free throws better than 58% and shoot better
than 33%.
Someone mentioned, he could also leave wherever he goes,
to play as a 5th year player, if he graduates in 4 years.
That would make him a one year player, unlike Iverson, who won't be sitting out a year.
As I've said, it doesn't matter what we say or think here.
It's just a message board, and has zero impact on what does
or doesn't happen in the program we follow.
In the "I know it means nothing" category. For some reason, Robinson just started following Will Blackmon on twitter. For those who don't know who Will is, NFL player from RI and Hendricken High School. Coincidence?
I think people subconsciously attach Anthony Grant's accomplishments to Shaka Smart. Not that Smart has not eclipsed Grant, because he has.
I'm excited about Robinson. I think he is a rung below the "Iverson transfer type." Just because Iverson seemingly has it all in potential.
Stanford still is an exciting player. Put him with Jared and Jarvis and if he is the defender he is supposed to be we will hold backcourts to half their avg points.
Also with VCU, their fans have to be shellshocked with how their younger players have not shown to be good as the older and recent former players. Add to that the transfers and Shaka Smart's departure and they are at a critical point.
He was relatively consistent as a freshman, it's just the sophmore year where things weren't right. Obviously, we know about the shooting hand thing and also some Indiana people say he was played out of position last year. But he averaged 17 minutes a game as an 18 year old freshman in the Big 10 and shot 44.8 % from the field. He had 13 pts, 5 rebs in a win over Wisconsin who was #2 at the time, 17 points in a win against #20 Iowa.

Because Robinson is not a need, has relative baggage (for the Hurley Era), thus not a splash. The reactions to the Berry and Akele signings brought excitement and fanfare, because everyone recognizes the potential for big things for the two during the next three and four years, respectively.

Whenever I hear the terms splash, excitement and fanfare, I immediately think of the commitments of Berry and Akele.
Am I the only one that gets bothered when people refer to use as "Rhodie", "Rhode Island University", or "Rhode Island State?" I don't know how people get still get it mixed up.
rodfromcranston wrote:BFC, I think nearly everyone was excited to hear Akele's

It was such a nice surprise, coming out of the blue.
Berry, less so.
I'm with you, Rhody 15.
I'm not putting down either commitment, but neither was a splash that resulted in fanfare.
It doesn't bother me as much that someone might misspell Rhody, seems pretty easy for an outsider to get wrong, but I don't understand where people get Rhode Island University or State.

We have front court depth now with Berry, Martin, Iverson, Butts and Akele who will be here in 2 years. On top of whatever '16's we're going after. We're going to continue to play high intensity D which means a lot more 4 guard lineups set around Berry or Hass, which means you'll need depth in the back court. More than you need up front.
There's also the lingering possibility that EC leaves after next year, along with Four, which means having another experienced 2 guard is not a bad thing at all. 2 years from now you could be looking at Jarvis, Jared, and Thompson if EC does jump. Stanford is a high motor D guy who has flashes on offense. I have no idea how a guy as highly touted as him, who played at as high a level as him, could ever possibly be looked at as a bad thing.
Oh and one more thing: Hurley wants him. That's enough for me to say I'd be ECSTATIC if we got him.
Nevermind winning a high profile recruiting battle against the highest profile school in the conference.
If you say you’re a Rhody fan, I know you are my brother. For you have suffered as I have suffered.

I think you are right about why Robinson hasn't generated a lot of buzz, but still this a 4-star guard out of HS who saw minutes in an elite program as a freshman. Even though we have good guard depth now, this guy would solidify that depth for some time into the future. I'm as guilty of anyone of not being overcome with excitement. Just curious why we feel that way.

Yeah, so many teams win with friggin four guard
offenses. NOT!
Does anyone understand BALANCE? Guess not.
Does anyone understand that Hurley played four guards at times,
because his only legitimate forward was playing center, and his
only other front court player was usually in foul trouble of injured?
Aklele is a swing man.

There was talk in his thread that he might not be academically eligible right away. Not sure if there's any basis for that thought or just speculation due to his international status.
