He's a big and mobile 4 star, top 100.
Now, before anyone bitches about his numbers, NCState is almost
totally guard oriented on offense.
Of course, so are we.
Confused about Tomasz Gielo. It looks like he's played four
full seasons for Liberty. Looks like a 6'9" McGlynn in stats. He's from Poland.

Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
You're right, but recruiting 2016 is still important. I honestly do not believe we are going to get the 7 foot HS player everyone so desperately wants for the class of 2015, just because I don't believe that guy exists. If we are going to address frontcourt needs for next year, it will likely be the grad transfer or JUCO route. Those recruitments are done more by back channels than by showing up somewhere and observing - there simply isn't a tournament that our coaches would show up to to watch guys that will help us next year. They should still be recruiting for 2016.Billyboy78 wrote:Ramster, what Rod and I are saying is that these EYBL events are important for recruiting '16s. Oh, absolutely. We should have a coach present at Tyrique Jones' games, for instance. I just think Ramster thinks we're going to find help for this year at EYBL. We're not. But, yes, it's still huge that we be there for the '16s and even '17s and '18s.

Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
The NCAA eliminated hardship waivers this year.
I don't think that's what URI has applied for.
This is a more technical area, in that Memphis eliminated/revoked
Iverson's scholarship, which changes the circumstances of his transfer.
I think Koch may be wrong, or talkiing to KMac, thinking all waivers have
been done away with.

Right - it was an ESPN article that mentioned an extra year which is why it became a discussion topic. Could be a typo or whatever on their part. The WWL isn't exactly tuned in to URI hoops.

Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
players that transfer half way through a year really get screwed. In his case, if no waiver is granted he will only play the equivalent of 3 season...but if he transferred at the end of the season he would have had to 2 full season left of eligibility not 1.5 and would have played 4 seasons.

Maybe the NCAA should change the full year sitting rule for mid-season transfers, but make it so they cannot practice with their new school until the current school year is completed.

Borzello recently tweeted about a 6'10 kid named Willy Koussami from Kennesaw State. It appears he started originally at Auburn, transferred after his freshman year and spent 2 seasons at KSU. Seems as though he would be eligible immediately.

Absolutely right. EYBL is for 2016 but also important for 2017. It's amazing how quickly the top 2016 kids will verbal. My point is that it is still nice to have Seniors graduating and even some openings when going to these EYBL events.Billyboy78 wrote:Ramster, what Rod and I are saying is that these EYBL events are important for recruiting '16s. I have been to many of these events and it is a ton of shmoozing that goes on between Coaches. All there in their shorts and t shirts - nobody dressed up at all. Lot's of talking and it's not all about the 2016 and 2017 players. They also have Peach Jam for the 16 year olds - top 16 teams. 17 year olds is for the top 24 teams that qualify.
People should relax and not get so bent out of shape because we have 3 openings now that Minnis, Butler and Reischel are gone. Nothing wrong with 3 openings - I rather like it.
Trust me a big man will be on board no later than June 1st - or I will eat my computer or light my couch on fire or both. Enjoy the ride, let Dan and staff be selective. Just like Kyle Washington just going on the market - if we had already bought the car we might have missed out on better cars. Still a ton of movement of players.

And the biggest back door channel is the Coaches talking to one another at these events. These events are like Coaches conventions - not only about the 2016 and 2017 players. Some recruiting of Assistant Coaches can take place too. Horse trading goes on.TruePoint wrote:You're right, but recruiting 2016 is still important. Our biggest problem with our roster is the same as our biggest advantage in a situation like this: we have a TON of playing time to offer a guy like Kouassi. Arkansas, Wichita St. and K-State are all good basketball programs, so I would get the appeal for the kid. On the other hand, I don't know the state of their rosters, but I'd have to think they currently have more frontcourt depth than we do.

Get him! We have all he could ever want. Good to know we have contacted him. Arkansas has lost their two best frontcourt players, but still have a couple bigs on the roster, Kansas State has three three bigs coming in, Wichita St has a couple 6'8
guys coming in and they already have two big guys.
Arkansas may want him to come in and start just like we do.

Man, everybody, including us in a big way, are offering a ton of 2016's.
Lots of good guards, PG's especially, and big men to be had.
It's beginning to look like we will be filling a couple of 2015 openings with 5th year players, and no 4 year guys.
We very well could have 4 or 5 open spots for 2016.

Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
For sure.
We are in a position to be selective - May was always a time during the Barren years that we just filled up the roster
If we had JR, Biggie and Matt still in those 3 spots would any of us feel better? We know their playing time next year would be limited - they would be further down the bench than they were this year.
So having 3 slots open is awesome. Gives the staff flexibility while out on the recruiting trail - no future juggling of the roster needed - we just flat out have 3 openings.
Anyone know if Plunkett takes up a scholarship or not? I would assume not - but sometimes they are awarded to walk-ons.

To me it does not matter because the 11,12,13,14 guys are not going to play anyway, but it does matter if there is another on the Roster for a Schollie besides those for Four, Iffy and Watson. As I said, I doubt it, but want to confirm.

I'd feel better if Biggie was still here at this point, but just for depth behind Jarvis, and I could change my mind depending on if we bring in anyone else who can play next year.
As of now I highly, highly doubt Plunkett has been given a scholarship, but with him going into his senior year, depending on how things shake out the next couple months I could see him being placed on scholarship right before the fall semester.

We need an inside player for 2015 season. At least one. Someone who can play solid minutes without a drop off in talent level. Somebody taller than 6'8. Not a 10,11,12 guy down the bench. It's a glaring need for this upcoming season and should be the #1 priority for our ciaching staff.

regarding low level players/walk ons getting a scholarship. you need those players for 12,13,14 on the bench. Also in some cases its done as a nice gesture to the walk on for the years of sacrifice and hard work they put in knowing they wont see the floor.

Reality check, our roster isn't that strong. We have one (1) legitimate inside post player, a 6'7 PF. That's it. Outside of 6'6 Earl Watson and Iffy ( if you count them) we've got no proven inside game at all. Iverson is a wing player and Butts is a freshman.
