Basket interference on Louisville not called. Harrell's hand was inside the rim on Costello's reverse. Could be a big swing.

The man is money! Definitely wanted him to win over Pitino.
The next one will be tough however. Duke or Gonzaga.
BTW, I think Wisconsin has a real shot against Kentucky, as long as they can shoot it anywhere near as well as they did in the 2nd half last night.
Would love to see Wisconsin win it all. Michigan St. would be my 2nd choice, but I doubt it.

Re: NCAA Tournament - General Discussion
No one does more with less than Izzo in the entire nation among the top programs in March every year. Only recruits in the Midwest and goes after guys that fit his team's identity, not always the "best" players. Only Dawson was a McDonald's AA out of high school, only Nairn was the other above a 3 star recruit. He develops and coaches among the best in the nation, as seen this year. Just incredible. Shows how important guard play/senior leadership matters in March when you don't have as much talent as the Duke/Kentucky's of the world.
He's also now 21-4 in "turnaround" games in the NCAA tournament. Game prep with only 1 day to do so falls squarely on coaching, which he clearly has done an amazing job with too.

Clearly scouting begins the previous weekend. Two known possible opponents. Izzo's staff does it better than most.

Re: NCAA Tournament - General Discussion
Absolutely ATP, you're gameplanning for 3 teams to begin the week. Izzo stated after beating Georgia that he was extremely impressed with the players and staff to pretty much change their entire defensive identity in preparation for Virginia.
"Give my staff a lot of credit — they sat down and did it," Izzo said. "But to have a team do that in one night … at this time of year, your focus has to be incredible. And that was incredible focus if you ask me." To apply, understand, and execute in it a day is where you separate yourself this time of year.

With the elimination of Gonzaga, the Final Four becomes a P5 party - two B10, ACC, and SEC. In the last five FF's, the non P5 school appearances were four - UConn (twice), Wichita State, and Butler. Actually, the last five years seen more balance than some other five year periods when no non P5 schools made it.

Butler also made it twice, so you could add that year, too.

Re: NCAA Tournament - General Discussion
rod, Butler did make it twice if you extend my comment to the last six years. But then if go back another year, UConn gets a third appearance. oh well, you get the point. The P5 schools dominate, but there has been a slight uptick in non P5 appearances in recent years as compared to prior periods.

Re: NCAA Tournament - General Discussion
"Honestly,” he says, “I don’t see a need for X-and-O adjustments. Our game plan is working. It’s not our defense. It’s our offense.” He goes through a few minor points — avoid fouls, throw crisper passes, drive when you see a lane. “We gotta be attack dogs,” Cooley says, shaking his head a little as he speaks. “We gotta play with that swag. We need some dog in us.” His eyes go wide. It appears as if Cooley wants to see the energy that got Providence this far but that has suddenly vanished in this game. His voice rises to a near scream.ace wrote:It's from a Providence perspective, but this is a good piece of writing about the tournament-

“We’ve got 20 minutes left!” He points at Henton. “In your career!” A quick pause. “It’s that, or it’s we come back Sunday and we keep playing!” The players clap and nod, willing themselves to match his intensity. “There is no time for tomorrow. And that’s not giving you pressure. That’s just being real. That’s being as real as real can come.”
WHAT A CROCK OF SHIT JOKE OF A "NON-COACH"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, PC may have been more talented, but talk about stupid -- HE WAS BEING OUT-COACHED!!! Make adjustments -- COACH!!!!!!!!!!!!
AND THEN HE PUTS THE ONUS ON HENTON!!!!!!!!!
THE GREAT MOTIVATOR, ED COOLEY…..
Hey, I'm twice your age -- and your coach -- but this is on you.
If I were a Fwiah fan, I'd be outraged.
If I were Bobby Driscoll, I'd be pissed.
If I were a URI player, President Dooley, TB, and/or fan, I'd be thankful Coach Hurley is on my sideline.
You know you're going to get your money's worth.
If I were a recruit, I'd want to know that my next mentor has got my back.

Re: NCAA Tournament - General Discussion
If you looked at Dayton on paper and even the players individually they didn't look special, and add to that, the fact they had no depth or height...I think every team they played thought they should be a W, and it actually worked to Dayton's favor...everyone overlooked them. But they are well coached, worked their buts off and played smart.

Wisconsin-Kentucky 36 all at the half. Hell of a game.
Somebody has to lose though.
Whoever wins is going to have to leave it all out there on the court.
Probably an advantage for Duke on Monday night.
I do not want Duke to win this thing.

It's nice to see that the NCAA refs sustained their embarrassing level of incompetence straight through to the Final Four.
But that aside, boy was Wisconsin impressive. Is any impartial person in the country going to be rooting for Duke on Monday?

Re: NCAA Tournament - General Discussion
Personally, I don't think so, boys. I was offered to read some good writing, and it was. Yet, the enlarged text pointed to the very things I commented on:TruePoint wrote:I agree but that wasn't ramster.bigappleram wrote:thats a little over the top bress, by all accounts Cooleys kids like playing for him and show it by playing hard. I know all about motivational techniques, and being convinced that "it's not about x's & o's" after 20 minutes of frustration is simply delusional self-denial. Nothing pointed towards the situation getting better. He, Cooley, was getting out-coached.
Also, Henton was busting his ass out there trying to get in rhythm, make things happen -- obviously -- not working. Same for Dunn.
No, Henton, you've got to do it or this is it for a career…..
Also, Cooley's kids like getting RECRUITED by Cooley.
Remember: Aside from major problems, i.e., Austin, et al., whatever happened to and wherever is all that accumulated talent?
Overall, at that point -- HALFTIME OF A SINGLE-ELIMINATION GAME -- Henton didn't need to be motivated, he needed to be coached out of a frustrating situation.
At that point, it was about x's & o's.
And for as much as I ADMIRE TOM IZZO, HE HAD THAT SAME LOST LOOK LAST NIGHT. He had a game-plan, which started out great, but what's your next move when it's not working anymore?
AND BY-THE-WAY, HAPPY EASTER AND A HAPPY PASSOVER SEASON TO ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That was a textbook Flagrant 1 on Lyles. I thought it was almost borderline Flagrant 2. Did the refs not have the balls to call it at that point of the game? They looked at it on the monitor. Seven Kentucky (rev.) players are projected to be wearing NBA uniforms next season. Nice to see player development win over one, or two and done. Anyone who does not think at least one big isn't necessary to compete with at the upper echelon on CBB must be watching a different NCAA tourney.
