I saw Hoetzel play at RIC last year when I went to see Jarvis play. I can't remember exactly what I liked, but I remember being impressed.

Says he wants to be somewhere his family can see him play more though. Don't think another 1000 miles would help.

We've only had two kids from California in my 87 years
following the program, that I can recall.
The handy-dandy Mike Brown and Josh Openheimer.
Unless you're UConn, UNC or Duke you're not moving
cross country.

Re: NCAA Transfers, 2014 Edition
I don't know. Just thinking of BC...up the road, Jared Dudley and Craig Smith were from CA. Reggie Jackson is from CO. All NBA guys. Smith was four star. Jackson was three. Even Ryan Anderson could play...transferred to Arizona and he played at BC for three years from Cali. I bet if you looked up and down the east coast at the non blue bloods, you would see plenty of west coast kids. If you have a quality reason to go, kids will move cross country. Some guys want to experience the east coast. Lot of quality players out there...no reason to just eliminate it from recruiting.rodfromcranston wrote:We've only had two kids from California in my 87 years

Re: NCAA Transfers, 2014 Edition
The only time we went after CA players was when Harrick
brought in Jason Kapono and Shea Cotton.
Calhoun could do it. Not sure what Al's secret was for his
West Coast players.
An interesting story....Al was supposed to be on one of the planes going
to LA, that was crashed into the Towers on 9/11.
He'd changed his plans at the last minute.

was kind of a fluke type recruitment.

I didn't know that about Al's flight change. That makes him eligible for the next "Final Destination" movie.

I would think Dan has, or will contact his players and any recruits in the pipeline, and let them know where he stands.
He's not going to leave everyone twisting in the wind, that would hurt recruiting for sure.

Re: NCAA Transfers, 2014 Edition
I imagine everything gets hashed out (extension for Hurley or he leaves) by next week, at the very latest, anyway. I don't think it's a long enough time span to substantially hurt recruiting, unless there was some sort of visit or scouting trip planned that was disrupted as a result.rambone 78 wrote:I would think Dan has, or will contact his players and any recruits in the pipeline, and let them know where he stands.

Twisted, read the A10 board where you think 2 from URI are leaving.
I guess we know who the 3 candidates are, Oneykaba, Butler, and Reischel. The first 2 are more likely.
Announcement forthcoming?
Having 3 'ships available would be nice. Sorry about whoever leaves, but hopefully they can get minutes somewhere.

Re: NCAA Transfers, 2014 Edition
At first blush, not really what we'd need. We don't have major minutes available for a guard and as everyone knows we need size. But if an extra spot were to open up, Lee would be the best shooter on our team immediately from three and the line. As much as we need some size, I see shooting as as big of a hole. TJ's role/minutes have to go somewhere. He has decent size for a wing and can rebound a bit for a wing. If they reached out to him it wouldn't upset me.ace wrote:Damion is about to get very, very popular. He'll be a huge get for somebody. I hate to see good players leave Philly, but I don't blame him.

Look at Lee's shooting percentages.
He's more of a scorer than a shooter.
Roughly EC's percentages, and we don't consider
him a shooter.

Don't see a lot of help there.
I wonder if Tariq Owens was the player Dan said he almost got

I disagree. I looked at it last night, so this is from recall without looking again, but he shot 6% better than EC from three (not a negligible difference) and shot 89% from the FT line.rodfromcranston wrote:Look at Lee's shooting percentages.

Re: NCAA Transfers, 2014 Edition
To me, the very best player who would thrive in Coach Hurley's system and the team would benefit most is Brown's Rafael Maia, a defensive workhorse, a pure rebounder with soft hands….His development was hindered by limited coaching. He is active at both ends!!!!
