Re: NCAA Tournament - General Discussion
The A-10 really got shafted on seeding. Dayton, the runner-up in both the A-10 regular season and tournament with an RPI of #32 and a record of 25-8 just barely gets in? They then are seeded as a #11 forced into the play in game?
The New Catholic Big East got extremely generous seeds. How did they base that? Xavier was given a #6 seed with a record of 21-13 and an RPI of #30. How are they that far ahead of Dayton? St. John's was a #9 seed with an RPI of #44. record of 20-11, and blowout loss on its home-court in its conference tourney? Georgtown got a #4 seed.
It is abundantly clear that the committee gave power conferences and names schools (as in perennial NCAA teams) a huge benefit of the doubt in both selection (UCLS and Texas) and seeding (Xavier and St. John's).
I hope Dayton uses this motivation and wins the play in game on their home floor and makes it to the sweet-16 as a fu to the committee.

Richmond one of the first four out? HUH?
And I am pretty sure the committee chair just explained UCLA getting in by saying that they were impressed by how they started to lose by less points lately...

The NBE just became undoubtedly the most overseeded conference in the history of the tournament.
Haha Adam...they could have put a more articulate guy on to explain the committee. That guy was so bad they would have been better off not putting anyone on.

Anyone venture over to the Friar board yet? Not that I'm upset about their draw, but man what a raw deal they got. Dayton gets treated as a top 4 seed based on location. A lot closer to the bubble than we ever imagined.

And, we don't hate Dayton, just losing to them yesterday.

Because I'm not done with this... Temple had 23 wins and a 34 RPI. Also, it's just one game, but they beat Kansas by 25. They also didn't have Morgan eligible for the first 10 games, during which they lost 4.

They were ROYALLY screwed. FU selection committee. It is all about the Power-5 and high profile name teams. The NCAA doesn't give a damn about anyone else.

Indiana gets in w/o a top 50 road win
Texas I believe was 3-12 vs the top 50
UCLA gets beat by 40 by Utah and 48 by Texas
Dayton should not get to play in their home state as as 11; play in game or no.

Dayton should never have been given such a bad seed and put in the play in game. They were 25-8 with an RPI of #32. They were the runner-up in the regular season and conference tournament for the #7 ranked A-10.seanmc94 wrote: Dayton should not get to play in their home state as as 11; play in game or no.

Some of the most bizarre seeding I've ever seen.
Wasn't just one or two teams, it was a whole bunch.
PC must be thrilled, they most likely get to play Dayton in Columbus.
Oklahoma a 3? Georgetown a 4? Xavier a 6? I could go on and on, but it's ridiculous.
And WHY does Duke always get the easiest region?

I look at the Dayton underseeding as being balanced by a home game. Then the chance to play another home game.
If I were Dayton/a Dayton fan I wouldn't feel slighted and would put everyone on the committee on my Christmas card list.
UCLA...lol. Colorado State sets a new record for highest RPI ranking left out of the tournament ever. 30. That's disgusting.
Richmond 1st four out is crazy.
Did enjoy Murray State as an NIT 3 seed...as they should be.
I'm still dizzy from UCLA/Texas being in. Can't get over that.
Looking forward to Bobby beating Huggybear while Sponge films it.

Absolutely, Dayton got screwed. I hope they kick butt with Boise State and use it as a tune up for their next opponentRF1 wrote:Dayton should never have been given such a bad seed and put in the play in game. Boise state is also a very very good team. Dayton is going to have their work cut out for them. Before losing to Wyoming they had won 15 of their last 16 games and looked really damn good when I watched them. Team full of seniors. Can score like crazy. There's no way they should be in a play in game as well.

Just saying, if URI was in that position, and we "deserved" a 8-9 seed, but instead got a very winnable first four game at the Ryan Center, then had a matchup at Mohegan for the first round game - we would take that and run.
Best thing any of the A10 teams can do is win.

I've seen BSU twice.
Very entertaining team. Fun offense.
Good size.
Colorado State in the NIT is tough, but their best player is hurt.
Eustacy's teams play killer defense.

From Dan:
On his brother, Bobby, making the NCAA Tournament as head coach at Buffalo: Bob was awesome for me at Wagner, played a huge role in helping us turn that thing around there, and he had a great year here. Me and my Dad obviously had a tough day on Saturday, but to at least be able to go home and watch him experience that, knowing how much he puts into the program, how much he puts into the game, it was great. It'll be neat on Friday to see him. It's been great talking to him about his match-up – he's all pumped up.

Re: NCAA Tournament - General Discussion
The Utah St AD and head of the selection committee was pretty poor as the spokesman for the committee. His performance makes the entire committee look bad and this was backed up by a handful of their selections. I wish someone would list all the members with their bios so all can see what their college basketball background is.
In addition to taking a look at the first four situation they should also invoke a new rule stating that an at large team must have at least a 50% record in their league. No losing records allowed!!!
One criteria I well remember is the committee looks hard at how a team did toward the end of the season. Indiana lost 9 of their last 14 and had a pitiful OOC schedule and is in. That provides no incentive for members of the major conferences to schedule true road games whcih hurts teams like us who have trouble scheduling decent OOC games.
Of course we all know this will never happen but it certainly makes sense.

P.S. Does anyone know how Lunardi's final bracket stacked up to the committee's? I would venture to say this year was one of the worst for Lunardi.

Richmond seeding
Can someone explain why Richmond was mentioned as a team that was just left out of the NCAAtourney, they are a #1 seed in NIT, and we beat them. URI had a better conference record, and ranked higher but was not even mentioned?

Re: Richmond seeding
Yeah. TP brought it up in another thread, I think. It looks bad that URI had a better conference record, and beat Richmond head to head. But the Spiders do at least have a pair of wins against VCU, whereas URI's best win is probably against Richmond or George Washington, IIRC. Richmond's resume is more balanced overall to me, whereas URI's resume matches up well specifically against Richmond (because of the head to head win), but not so much other teams.ace wrote:The Spiders being one of the first four out is ridiculous, but when comparing them to Rhode Island, Richmond had better wins.OBRAM wrote:Can someone explain why Richmond was mentioned as a team that was just left out of the NCAAtourney, they are a #1 seed in NIT, and we beat them. Interesting results and if I read it correctly the A-10 final, Dayton-VCU, also outdrew the Big East final.

Re: NCAA Tournament - General Discussion
By quite a bit. This happened as well last year. The New Catholic Big East (NCBE) Tournament Championship Game had the better time slot on a Saturday evening in prime-time but had the misfortune of being on the little seen and often hard to find FS1 network. The A-10 Championship Game televised during the decreased viewership slot of Sunday afternoon substantially outdrew them in the ratings both years. Much of that can be attributed to the A-10 game being on the main CBS network. While the NCBE has a great financial package with Fox, it sacrificed viewers for the money. FS1 is still yet to gain traction in its 2nd year and I suspect recent ratings are not what was hoped for at this point in time. The goal of Fox executives was to challenge ABC's ESPN network. That notion seems like a pipe-dream given the reality of the first two years.Obadiah wrote:Interesting results and if I read it correctly the A-10 final, Dayton-VCU, also outdrew the Big East final.
