Game #29: St Joseph's - Saturday 1:45p - SENIOR DAY
I decided the game thread should be separate from the Senior Day thread Neil so eloquently posted. If you haven't read that yet, please do.

St. Joe's at URI, Saturday 1:45, Senior Day
THE HAWK WILL NEVER DIE!
The Hawk will never die?
Saturday URI gets over their ATP induced funk that resulted in a poor game thread and even worse game and they follow my lead and get back in the win column. We honor our seniors, shut down Bembry, win the game, and clinch a bye in the A10 tournament. Our run in Brooklyn starts by killing the hawk.

I love the smirk on Harrick's face. I was right over where that happened.
By the way, note the fantastic ball movement.

best Rhody bounce pass ever.

Not quite--not sure if it can be found but a bounce pass from Owens to Garrick (I think) in a 1988 Presidents Day game against West Virginia is the best. Game was on ESPN and announcer Larry Conley raved about it. I am not absolutely certain about the date and opponent but the pass was special.

eli, you are right. The one from Silk was a full court bounce pass. Ok so now we know the top 2 bounce passes in Rhody history.

Re: Game #29: St Joseph's - Saturday 1:45p - SENIOR DAY
The '88 President's Day game was played against GW at GW,
which we won, 92-61 on 1/18/88.
Kenny Green was in the midst of his 22 straight shot streak.
I thought Silk's almost court length bounce pass against Syracuse to Kenny,
was Ernie to Marvin stuff.
We beat a very strong West Virginia team three times that year, including
twice at their place, once in the A-10 Tourney.
Penders did the unheard of thing of moving our home game with
The Mountaineers, to MSG, to get his team ready for the bright lights.

Rod, we've played a lot of good games at that place over the years [MSG].
We used to be fairly regular visitors, with plenty of fan support.
How long has it been since we played there, not counting the NIT loss to UNC several years ago?
Maybe Dan can get a couple of games there at some point soon.

College basketball in NYC is light years away from what it
was before.
St. John's when Carneseca was there was the last hurrah for
college ball in MSG.
They still play there once in awhile, but they don't draw that well.
Iona, Fordham and Manhattan play in antiquated glorified
high school gyms.
In the 60's MSG was Manhattan's home court.
Imagine that?

They were, Rod. I loved it, I used to travel to see us play quite often.
Now, don't have the time or money to do so.
Nowadays, it's the RC and Mohegan, and not anywhere else. And not as often either.

I schedule my visits with my dad around big games so we can have something in common, I text pictures of my favorite Jay signs to friends, during the season I have at least one item of Rhody clothing/accessory on my body at all times unless showering. I scheduled my Thanksgiving around the game this year, I get a good amount of my world news here on keaneyblue, okay maybe not the details, but get alerted to news here. I familiarize myself with URI mbb staff member's contracts, building specs of facilities. I stand in front of Rodman Hall once a year and contemplate the genius of Frank Keaney, etc...
And I'm just one person here, safe to say I'm not the only one who considers this a way of life, heck Blueman got engaged at a game, neil hasn't missed a senior game in what 50 years? Ramster would have adopted, clothed and fed ______ if he would have stayed and played, there are keaneyblue kin that have 3X the amount of posts as the amount of days this forum has been at 'keaneyblue.com', etc...
I think it has always been a way of life for many of us, good times and bad, thankfully the good times are back.

Two things - the bounce pass at GW was the best, and after the game was over when they were interviewing Penders, super fan Karl Koussa was in the background for almost the whole interview.
Also, -Running Ram - absolutely love that attitude. True fans support their team whether they are 20 and 8, or 8 and 20. Have not and will not quit...that ram fan

The more I think of it, the more I agree. I've always thought that I have mellowed through the years because I no longer challenge sections of the Dunk (Civic Center), employees at the same or even priests that are near the opponents bench to mortal combat that the feeling has waned through the years. Not true.Running Ram wrote:Keaneyblue is the first outlet I go to every time I get online (both in season and preseason), it's the first bookmark in my list of bookmarks, which reads like this...rodfromcranston wrote:"URI wasn't just a basketball team, it was a way of life."

85 even used to challenge TV guys who said stupid things about us.
He did challenge an entire section once. Nobody moved.
My biggest regret is, when he wanted to punch out Jerry D for ignoring his
son's autograph request (The entire team signed his book, including Harrick)
I tried to talk him out of it. What was I thinking?
When you get to our age, things like going to jail and having to hire lawyers, kind of makes
acting on impulses, take a back seat.

Not a lot of green dots. I'm sure some of the back rows of the 300s aren't sold yet, but even with those, there's less than 1000 left. If the students fill up their sections, it looks like it'll be a very big crowd.theblueram wrote:Looks like we may have a good crowd for this game.
