Re: '15 MA SG Terance Mann (Offer)
I hate reading the updates of this thread on how good Mann is.
I really like where we are at currently and with Butts. Add Mann and we have one of the most talented rosters in the A10 on paper in the past decade. Can't take the suspense.

I never thought it was going to be Rhody, but I REALLY didn't think it was going to be FSU.
The recruiting experts seemed to think that he was a lock to Boston College. Welp.

I do wish him the best, it is just a little surprising. If he were a football player, I'd get it. To leave your home region, usually it is for a blue blood program. But hey, this is why you don't just recruit one kid. On to the next one.

Surprised at this one, especially that he announced so early. But he did talk about possibly leaving the area to go to school. I guess that did become a factor.

That much is clear now. I don't begrudge him at all. He should go where he wants. FSU just strikes me as an odd choice for basketball. But I hope he tears it up there.twisted3829 wrote:maybe not everyone wants to play at home, many felt he was leaning that way but who knows, I wish him luck at FSU

OK I am not saying he shouldn't have committed there or that its bullshit or anything. Good for him and good for FSU. I'm just saying, I'm more surprised for FSU than anything. Just a general observation and not meant as criticism of him or anyone else.twisted3829 wrote:he said that he always liked the campus and coaches

Mann said FSU has been recruiting him since he was in 8th or 9th grade. That's some serious relationship building.

I couldn't find anywhere that he did. I did find that he will still take his official visit to Florida State later this fall. Interesting... and seemingly a bit odd.

Maybe, but usually even unofficial visits get publicity no? Not crying over spilled milk here. Wish him the best. Just would find it odd if he never visited campus.

Not surprised. He was leaning heavily toward going away, which made it hard for URI and BC.

Re: '15 MA SG Terance Mann (Florida State Verbal)
Not surprised Mann went elsewhere given he didn't have long term ties to the area and URI. Would however not have guessed FSU would be his choice. While Rhody didn't get him, it still might want to try to capitalize on its relationship to him through his mother. Hurley should make inquiries to FSU about a H&H series during his time on the Noles. It would give him the chance to have his family see him play. A series starting in 2 or 3 years might make sense for all involved.

He is a FS commit. But I believe Mann and Tomas Murphy will be playing in a rec league game tonight in Narragansett by Boon Street for those who want to get a look at their games.

Re: '15 MA SG Terance Mann (Florida State Verbal)
He's a talented player, with a diverse skill set, but he's a long way from being a point. He's a good passer with court vision but his ball handling is not his strength. Neither on the run or in half court sets.
Why does everyone think they can play the point?

Because many think that due to their size that's the only legit position they could play in the NBA.

Re: '15 MA SG Terance Mann (Florida State Verbal)
Well, while a wonderfully talented player, Mann needs a lot of work with ball handling, etc., to truly become a point guard. However, as a swingman with a better handle and a refined shooting touch, he would be enhancing his game even more.ace wrote:But this is why it will still work for Terance.
Also, does anyone truly believe that Hamilton would entrust a potential deep run in the NCAA Tournament to a person who has never been a point guard?????
Xavier Rathan-Mayes (6'3" combo-guard), Mr. Top-40 from 2013, is also back after getting academics in order.

Re: '15 MA SG Terance Mann (Florida State Verbal)
I wonder if he reconsiders this.
FSU is just clouded in negative stuff. Not to say a school shooting is a negative for recruiting, but with all the scrutiny on the football team+ school shooting+ the basketball losing to Northeastern+ they have 2 higher rated players playing the same spot as him committed.
I don't understand how it can be attractive and with the poor season they are likely to have. Can't be very exciting.
Putting the awful shooting aside, things at FSU seem to be spiraling out of control.
Also not a factor... but they also had an esteemed law professor murdered there this year.

Re: '15 MA SG Terance Mann (Florida State Verbal)
you realize that things happen? there was a threat that a gunman was on URI's campus last year. The football team is separate from the basketball team and has no impact.
The football team is under the biggest public microscope so every little thing is being reported (many of the things happen with every program, many guys are suspended for violation of team rules and no one looks twice at it)

Re: '15 MA SG Terance Mann (Florida State Verbal)
The football program, and the community that enables it, is a joke, and I think it goes way beyond the things that happen at most schools. It's close to PSU-level in its awfulness, in my opinion.
I don't think any of that affects Mann or his decision.

No, I know. The culture of that university and the surrounding community seems to be invested in defending football at all costs. It's certainly not unique, but it seems especially gross there.twisted3829 wrote:I meant the little things (ticket for running from accident and returning, the suspension for saying a popular phrase) not the sexual assault that is not little

Re: '15 MA SG Terance Mann (Florida State Verbal)
I get that things happen, just getting at the fact that he is making a decision for his future.
Personally if I was making a decision or advising a kid on a decision, I would point them toward something that seemed more stable.
Basically if the situation on the court doesn't look good and the climate at the school is really just scary, how can that be the choice?
Again FSU basketball is not winning anything this year, haven't coached a guy into the NBA there , and 2 higher rated recruits+ 2 freshman guards between him and the basketball.
I don't think the shooter and murdered faculty member fall under 'things happen,' I would say they are unique crimes amongst schools. But I also wouldn't say they should deter a basketball recruit, just that they are there among all the football stuff. Seems like a lot to sign up for.
