Re: '14 Lithuania PF/C Rokas Gustys (Offer)
There's no way our best interior player from last year gets moved to the perimeter. Plenty of college players play the 4 their whole college career, then play the 3 as a pro, never seen a situation where a player had to be a SF as a sophmore to prepare for the NBA.

Re: '14 Lithuania PF/C Rokas Gustys (Offer)
Then call Hare a PF and Gilvydas a Center if it makes you feel better about it. Nobody is saying that Hare should be controlling the offense from the high post, but at times the offense last year worked will with Gilvydas filling that role. Doesn't matter who you call a 4 and who you call a 5, the offense can still do that.rodfromcranston wrote: You want your offense to go through
your center, inside to outside, finding free shooters or putting it on the floor
and go to the basket. That's not Hare's game, folks. Gil is a terrific passer.

I'll definitely bet Gil doesn't start at the 5rodfromcranston wrote:If Watson is the starting center, we'll lose 20 games. He's a backup PF.
I've never seen anything listing him as a center.
Gil will start at the 5 like all of last year.
JR is horrible. Iffy is iffy at best.
Hassan is a 4, unless his offense has greatly improved. You need him
near the basket for put backs, and alley-oops.
Counting on Hare is insanity. Gil is a better, more experienced player,
and in February, Hurley was still talking about rust.
I agree Billyboy. I'd rather have Gustys.
Who's the mystery perimeter guy? Some schlub juco or a 5th year player?
Please.
JR underachieved. Saying he is horrible is silly.

Re: '14 Lithuania PF/C Rokas Gustys (Offer)
Everybody is getting way too caught up in positions. There is no reason the five of Garrett, EC, Hassan, Gil and Hare can't play on the floor together. You need a PG, and then the rest is really just based on matchups and sets. Call them whatever position you want.

I'm not the only one who thinks JR was awful.
Go back and read any game thread from the last six games.
Gil is clearly a low post player on offense. Not so on defense.
You could have Hare on defense in the middle, which makes the most sense,
and Gil in the post on offense.
Dan always says labeling positions is passe, anyway. Adam is 100% right.
Time will tell on all things.

That may be your starting 5 in January, but definitely not in November.adam914 wrote:Everybody is getting way too caught up in positions. Oh totally agree on that, I said the same in one of the other threads yesterday. But no doubt they'll all see time together, starting 5 or not.Rhody74 wrote:That may be your starting 5 in January, but definitely not in November.adam914 wrote:Everybody is getting way too caught up in positions. Jr is tall, Fairly smooth, and equally awful.
Obviously a player can fix the things he had problems with, but having the problems he had in the first place are disconcerting as a fan.
Notwithstanding any of the negative on this board, we are in a good position right now when we step back and look at the situation top to bottom. At least against our last regime.

You can agree or not with the decision but have to think here URI has helped him eliminate one of his options.

Ok. Forget positions if you want. All I know is Gil will no longer be playing the opposing team's big man. This will help prevent him getting into foul trouble.
My starting 5 in November:
Biggie
EC
Gil
Watson
Hass
In March:
Garrett
EC
Gil
Hare

OK, I'll buy that. Gil should not be in the middle of defense.
Now, we'll have to tell Dan what we've decided!

When did we start worrying about keeping all the front court happy? How about earning playing time. I'm with Billyboy and Rod on this. We need a center. And it's looking more and more that Gustys isn't coming.

To the best of my knowledge, Gustys has not eliminated any school but schools have eliminated him. I think that somehow sounds harsher then it is, but situations for schools change, especially when the process drags out.

I specifically asked Chris DiSano earlier this afternoon about Terrell and Gustys. He said we're still in the mix for Terrell, but didn't bother to mention Gustys. I presume that means he's off the board for us.

http://zagsblog.com/rhode-island/jordan ... y-program/The addition of Hare also means Rhode Island is no longer recruiting 6-8 Oak Hill forward Rokas Gustys, who is expected to announce Monday or Tuesday for Hofstra, UAB and Tulane.

Doesn't look like Leroy Butts signed a LOI to Rutgers. Is this the help that is being discussed? More help up front - does not seem to be a perimeter player.
