This story calls him EC Williams. Did he change his name?

Some good video of EC here, also talks about his decision a little at the end. Nice little mid-range game and some nice passes as well.

Re: '13 PG MI EC Matthews (URI - Signed LOI)
Very impressed with the athleticism and court vision. Hopefully that jump shop is as good as the highlight reel indicated and he didn't miss 20 to get the few makes that we saw. I remember videos of Holton made him look like the second coming of Dirk Nowitzki, and we all know about his infamous 18% 3-pt rate.
As long as he can shoot around 35-40% that would make his ability to get to the rim and create that much more valuable.

Wow, he looks to be even more athletic now than he was in the AAU footage of him just a few months ago. He looks like he can do it all offensively and supposedly a very good defensive player too.

Re: '13 PG MI EC Matthews (URI - Signed LOI)
agree with that sentiment billyboy, showed a lot more athleticism in that clip than i had seen in past videos
dont love his three point stroke, his feet and form seem a bit unorthodox to me, but that could just be the angles on the videos.

Re: '13 PG MI EC Matthews (URI - Signed LOI)
Twisted is most likely correct, but either way he signed an LOI he isn't "just" committed. I can't imagine that he would decide to try to get out of that on a whim. And it isn't like Hurley has ignored him since he signed, either. He tweets about his games, has gone out to see him, etc. I don't think there is anything to worry about here.

You never know what's on a kid's mind, or what peer pressure he's getting.
I know he's taken a lot of heat in MI for signing with us.

Rod, what are you doing with aggressively going after some kid on twitter? We, on this board, "get" you, but others who may be browsing tweets will only see an angry Rhody Hoops fan bullying some kid he doesn't know. Just not something I'd do:

yeah dude, remember John Goodman in The Big Lebowski? that's what I picture when I see that tweet. You just told some kid to shut up, not good.

Re: '13 PG MI EC Matthews (URI - Signed LOI)
everybody hear knows you will speak your mind, so no, you don't have to clear your tweets, but it is a discussion board and I choose to discuss the fact that I don't think it was a good idea to tell some kid you don't know to 'shut up'. Furthermore, you have no idea of the relationship this kid has with E.C., could be his 'boy' you told to shut up in which case E.C. may not be feeling so hot about Rhody fans at the moment. There are other ways to prove the intensity of Rhody fans. Just tweet how awesome Rhody is going to be with E.C. leading us to the final four or something instead of tell a kid off. This is a point I choose to discuss.
Go Rhody!!!

Re: '13 PG MI EC Matthews (URI - Signed LOI)
I've done all that with EC and Hassan, since they signed.
To pick out one tweet among many isn't very fair.
I also deleted the tweet in question.
If his committment is based on my tweet,
there's a bigger problem.
I'm sure you'd agree.

I do agree, on both accounts, I've not read any of your other tweets and you're also right about there being bigger issues if one tweet caused the guy to reconsider his commitment. I'm sure this is just us making mountains out of molehills.

If he was going to decommit, I doubt he'd be going to Missouri with Clark. EC wants to play PG in college and Clark is an even higher rated player than EC and Clark plays PG.

If we're going to start and discuss recruiting rumors, PLEASE let them be based on something more than what some random person tweets at one of our committed recruits.

Re: '13 PG MI EC Matthews (URI - Signed LOI)
EC is, imo, the linchpin of URI's success going forward.
He's absolutely essential to get this program to the next level. Hurley has to do everything in his power, to keep him from going elsewhere.
URI HAS to have a dominant PG if they are to Dance, and I think he's the one. Even with all the other talent coming in, Matthews ties it all together.

I know it's a highlight tape (so only good stuff), but I love the way he finishes at the basket, very controlled. The rebound and put-back at the end was nice, too.

Re: '13 PG MI EC Matthews (URI - Signed LOI)
I know it's WAY premature, but EC is going to be our best PG since Tyson.
He just might be the difference between URI being a good team, and a great team.

Romulus ranked #2 in Class A in Michigan, having lost early in the season to #1 Detroit Pershing (Martez Walker's team)
Last night EC Led his team with 16 points in a crazy rivalry game against Belleville

In these videos looks like more of a 2 guard. Not the worse thing that can happen to us. Will allow us to play him & Powell or Minnis when we give X a break.

Re: '13 PG MI EC Matthews (URI - Signed LOI)
I think he can play either. From other videos, we can see his ability to break down a defense getting into the lane. He has great vision and passing ability and also finishes strong at the hoop. But, I agree, there will be times when he and Powell play together and he slides to the 2. I know the Hurleys are bringing him in as a 1, but his versatility will allow them to do a lot of different things with a lot of different looks.Rammgr wrote:In these videos looks like more of a 2 guard. He could have gone anywhere as a 2 guard. He's coming here to learn the point and play it .

Re: '13 PG MI EC Matthews (URI - Signed LOI)
We know that's the end goal and what helped to get him here, so there's not going to be any bait and switch. However, with 2 other experienced point guards on the roster, there's some flexibility for working into that and creating some advantageous match-ups along the way.rodfromcranston wrote:He could have gone anywhere as a 2 guard. Re: '13 PG MI EC Matthews (URI - Signed LOI)
when's the last time we had a PG that could throw down like that.....um never!!
there was one, name escapes me, wanna say in the 90s pre Tyson, great athlete so so PG. maybe Rod or some of the other historians on the site know who i am talking about.
besides that cant think of one, Dawan maybe could dunk but he rarely if ever did. i did love his 25 foot set shots after a dizzying array of driblling.

Tony Taylor. He was 6'3", a transfer 1982-85, back in Claude's day.
Looked like a basketball player, but never amounted to much.
There was also a forced PG under Skinner, who came from Northestern, Herb Dixon, who was around 6'4".
I loved Dawan, too. Mr. Clutch!

Re: '13 PG MI EC Matthews (URI - Signed LOI)
Dawan was JB's best PG. Won a bunch of games late for us.
Only problem, was Dawan could sure drive to the hole, but he hardly ever kicked it back out to an open shooter. Kept his head down too much.
Going 1 on 5 didn't work out too well sometimes. Of course, those teams could rebound and defend, but couldn't score.

Dixon was a leaper. Jiggy didn't dunk often, but when he did it was great because he was so strong. I think it was the game against San Francisco he had a great one, IIRC.

I wonder if Preston is on Josh Jackson (frosh who scored 23 in that game), top 10 in the class of '16?
