#1 Florida State and Jameis Winston visit URI
Not sure if everyone saw this, but BC's baseball field was deemed unplayable due to the weather, so their 3 game weekend set vs. Florida St. was moved to Bill Beck Field. Game 1 started at noon and they play tomorrow at 1 and Sunday at noon. Jameis Winston is the Seminoles closer and an outfielder. He's thrown 13 innings in 8 games with all 4 of the Seminoles saves. He has a .69 ERA, has only allowed 7 runners and has struck out 13. As a batter he's hitting .211 with a .318 OBP, 1 double, 3 runs, 2 RBI's.

This happened last year with the America East final. Weather issues affected the schedule and moved the date of their final. The field was already booked so they played the America East Championship game at URI. Binghamton beat Maine.

Re: #1 Florida State and Jameis Winston visit URI
An excellent article on the investigation of Winston, describing some awful police work.
The article also provides a really good context about the realities of such incidents. I appreciate the general mentions of the overall under reporting of sexual assaults, the very real later personal attacks on victims from people not associated with an alleged incident, and the dismissive attitudes of some police. A tough read but a good one.

That's very disturbing. It's as if women are play toys for jocks,
and nothing else matters.
A booster organization with 150 MILLION dollars, can grease many palms,
and make things go away.
The Tallahassee police force is a disgrace on so many levels.
Even a cop's daughter didn't get justice.
Just infuriating to realize this is happening in this country,
with little or no consequence.

Re: #1 Florida State and Jameis Winston visit URI
This is what a police officer allegedly said (another case involving a FSU student, not the Winston case)-
“The first thing he asked me,” she recounted, “was if I was sure this was rape or if I just didn’t want a baby or wanted the morning after pill.” He also made comments, she said, “like, ‘Are you sure you want to file a report? It will be very awkward, especially for a female.’”
What other victims are treated and questioned like this?

Thanks for posting. I read, the whole article and thought it was very will thought out, fair, objective. I did not understand all the ways that the police dept bungled it as was mentioned early in the article but in the end it is a shame for the victim. Almost seems like an ugly game to win or lose pursued by the fans and attorneys. I feel terrible for the girl, surprised she is even still at the school, if in fact she is. Sad commentary on sports.

can pay off a lot of people on a variety of fronts.
This makes TBoone Pickens' donation to OK State
peanuts by comparison.

So glad Marcus Mariotta and the Ducks destroyed this outlaw
program, FSU and that POS Jamis Winston.
All their booster club millions didn't mean anything today.
Some small measure of justice.
What a night! Ohio State ends Alabama's season with a third string QB.
SEC doesn't look so almighty this season.

The top SEC schools during the year all lose. MSU, OleMiss, Auburn, AL. and the Big ten gcme out great MSU, Wisc, OSU. Maybe the tide is shifting a little from the southern schools back north again.

I really hope Oregon smacks Ohio State around. Oregon is funded by Nike and they had a scouting violation under Chip Kelly, but a very easy case could be made that Urban Meyer is the sleaziest coach in college football and Ohio State wasn't exactly a bastion of moral integrity under Jim Tressel.

Re: #1 Florida State and Jameis Winston visit URI
Ohio State's QB reminds me of Jamarcus Russell.
Huge, big arm, zero touch on the short game.
As Sean said, there's no big program without skeletons
in their closet.
I always wondered if Meyer took the ND job while he was at Utah,
if they'd be just an also ran? Sometimes I think their admissions
policy kills them for many potential recruits.
I do like Mariotta, though. Seems like such a nice kid, and terrific QB.

Yeah as Rod and Sean said, you just can't even play that game when it comes to one program/coach being sleazy or whatever. They all play the game, and nobody really cares as long as you win.

There's a difference between having skeletons in your closet and your program producing skeletons like Meyer's Florida program did.

Re: #1 Florida State and Jameis Winston visit URI
1 year samples deceiving, SEC still no doubt best conference in all of football. Just hope this season takes away a little bit of the bias though. The SEC can lose just like any other conference. Difference between SEC and other conferences is stability. Wisconsin great program, but can't keep coaches. Why? Lost one to Arkansas, one to Oregon St. Not exactly national superpowers.
So much positive about the playoff (interest and $$), I think it's inevitable for expansion to happen soon. Need to set it up with automatic births and everything.
1) Alabama *SEC
2) Oregon *Pac12
3) FSU *ACC
4) Ohio St. *B1G
5) TCU *B12
6) Baylor
7) Georgia
8) Michigan St.
9) Ole Miss
10) Mississippi St.
11) Georgia Tech
12) Marshall *CUSA
13) Boise St. *MWC
14) Memphis *AAC
15) Georgia Southern *SB
16) Northern Illinois *MAC
Or Something like that.

Re: #1 Florida State and Jameis Winston visit URI
There needs to be 8 teams. 16 would be too much I think. With conference championships and all. However SEC is king and will always be. I'm also a Tennessee fan cause my grandpa played football for them back in the 60's. There's no way the big ten will ever match the SEC. Urban Myer is the only reason Ohio State was able to beat bama because of his old recruiting ties that he had while at Florida. Glad Bama lost though! Don't still I don't like Ohio State, so go Oregon! I don't expect the SEC to lose their edge. If any conference could overtake the SEC it would be the big 12. Otherwise probably won't happen. Location is everything. There's just nothing like football in the south. It's literally god and football everywhere.

Re: #1 Florida State and Jameis Winston visit URI
I hope it goes to 8 teams sooner rather than later but doesn't expand more than that. If you have eight teams you can have 5 automatic bids to the power 5 champions with 3 wild cards. With 16 teams you either have automatic bids going to teams that shouldn't be in the conversation like Memphis, Georgia southern and Marshall or you end up with conferences having 4-6 teams in the playoffs. That would kill the regular season which would be awful, because college football has the best and most important regular season and I'd hate to see that destroyed.

Re: #1 Florida State and Jameis Winston visit URI
I like 8 teams. My fear with 8 teams though is that it's basically a P5 tournament. That doesn't appeal to me. I don't want to see 2 SEC, 2 B12, 2 B10, 1 ACC, 1 P12, or any other combination. Teams play each other in conference and then in Championship games. I think that was some of the appeal of 4 teams is that it would be hard to squeeze multiple conference members in due to head-to-head matchups eliminating teams. I think that's why I'd rather 16 teams with AQ's, or even 8 teams with some sort of AQ tie-in, like if a conference winner is in the Top 25, they get an invite. I like some of that David vs. Goliath, so Marshall/Northern Illinois vs. Florida St. would interest me, and if they won 2 out of 10 years, we get some of that magic that makes the NCAA Basketball Tournament special.
That said, I think it will take significant time to expand in any direction. The networks, towns, and programs love their bowl games. Damn near 40 Bowl Games now. More 6-6 football. More P5 teams playing bowl games with interim coaches because their head coach was fired for performance. More teams with coaches who left for another position. But ESPN gets something to put on their network, these cities get to host games, and money is made for everyone but the programs themselves who often lose money.
Are lesser bowl games wanting playoff expansion if it means worse pool of teams for them though? Also don't think it's necessarily realistic to keep sending teams all over the country to different bowl sites. Think for semi-finals and finals it works, but quarterfinals? Are you sending Oregon to Florida, then New Orleans, then Texas. Financially stupid. If quarterfinals introduced, think it needs to be accompanied by a set of home games.
At least we finally got a playoff.

Just play six regular season games then play a 128 team tournament for the next seven weeks. Then nobody can complain about being left out.

I am with RJ on this....it shouldn't be the realm of the P4 or P5 conferences......all 1-A conferences send their AQ champion.....then the rest of the 16 come in at-large....
Division 1-AA has 16 teams in their championship......fold all 32 teams in the bowl games to shut the bowl game people up....I would rather see two 1-AA teams in the tournament then whatever teams are in the Pinstripe Bowl, the Alamo Bowl, the Zaxby Bowl....etc....
