Cotton barely walked out onto the court during introductions. Willis Reed tonight. Dude is probably so shot up....I feel bad for him.

Ugh - the traffic tonight is truly brutal. I got to Providence at 6, and finally got a spot at the mall at like 7, only after being diverted from the civic center lot way too late. But, the live chat is up now: http://narragansett.patch.com/articles/ ... pc-tonight

That would be my guess. It was really, really bad. I've covered a dozen games at the Dunk over the years, and this was the worst by far. I left my house in Narragansett at 5 and didn't get into the arena until about 7:15.adam914 wrote:Wow thats great. I was not joking in the other thread when I said there was 3K people before tip off. Has definitely filled in some, but nowhere near capacity. Whole empty sections in the endzone opposite the bar.adam914 wrote:Wow thats great. X and Nik have really hurt us. I have confidence that X can bounce back, but Nik has checked out. This is not a good Friar team, but I don't know who we could beat playing this way.

The officiating has been bad but not unfair. We've gotten a few gifts, too. That isn't our problem tonight. Our problem is our FG%. I don't know what it is, but I'd venture that its not good.

The officiating has been pretty even to me. They're letting both teams play hard, and since PC has bigger, more physical players, it has favored them slightly.

URI is shooting 37.5% which is about as bad as they do most games. FT shooting is actually good. Rhody's problem looks to be the turnovers with 19 thus far.

Yeah PC didnt shoot it a ton better. But we got killed in three important stat categories: turnovers, rebounds and free throws/fouls. Severely outgunned if we get nothing from Xavier.RF1 wrote:URI is shooting 37.5% which is about as bad as they do most games. FT shooting is actually good. Re: Game #9: @ Providence College - InGame!!!
Other than Munford stinking up the joint, no worries here. Thought he would play a lot better. Needs to be much more consistent going forward.
As for Hare, he's going to be a MAJOR star in the A10. Our inside game will be more than a match for PC starting next season. The key will be the guards, as always.
Hurley needs to find a couple of big time shooters. That's the only piece that might be missing from the puzzle.

Re: Game #9: @ Providence College - InGame!!!
This game is going to be played at a much higher level next season.
Both teams will be vastly improved. PC will have Dunn, Cotton, Fortune, Batts , and Henton a year older. That plus their recruits, looks like a team that will finally be top half BE, and maybe a Dance contender.
As will we in the A10. PC might have a slight edge in experience when we meet again, but URI will have the home court. Should be a good one.

Re: Game #9: @ Providence College - InGame!!!
My take on this stinkbomb.
We lost defensive intensity in the second half.
PC went on a 10-0 run and for some reason, Hurley didn't call
a timeout. Shades of Al Skinner.
Powell pretty much shut down Cotton, and did a nice job taking care of the ball.
Hare was terrific.
I knew we couldn't match up with Batts and Henton.
What I didn't anticipate was Munford playing his worst game since Norfolk State.
They'll say they held him, but he missed open shots, too.
I'm shocked we got blown out in the second half, by a team playing with six players.
This undoes, in my mind, all the progress we've seen
over the last few games.
We absolutely sucked in the second half.
I don't care about next year. This should have been a winnable game.
Very disappointing.

Even Rooke and Hassett admitted this on their broadcast tonight, that there is a whole lot more talent sitting on the URI bench, than was playing tonight.
Hope they enjoy their win this year. Starting next year, different ballgame.

Re: Game #9: @ Providence College - InGame!!!
What is this, the Red Sox? Wait til next year, and we'll beat the Yankees?
Who gives a shit? THIS was a winnable game with circumstances
that could not have worked more in our favor.
Is anyone concerned that we stopped turning PC over in the second half?
That our intensity vanished?
That there was a decisive 10-0 run without a timeout being called?
That X was 3-13, Nik was 4-12, and Powell was 3-9?
We made Henton and Batts look like Kevin Durant and Kevin Love.
Other than Hare, we did not have a single putback rebound.
Now we have a year to hear it from PC fans.
This blows!

Re: Game #9: @ Providence College - InGame!!!
Rod, the difference tonight was the play of Fortune versus Munford.
Nobody expected Fortune to completely outplay X.
There's just a lot of pressure on this team to play full out banzai defense for 40 minutes. They don't have the horses, simple as that. Bodies yes, just not enough talent to maintain it. They are going to have a lull almost every game, and against the better teams, it's going to kill them.
PC doesn't have any depth either, but fortunately for them, the players they do have are just better right now. Hare is going to be a beast, at least as good or probably better as either of the PC big men. The big O and Biruta will take care of them. Hassan, as he gets bigger, imo might be better than either of them too.
I'm not worried at all, as long as Hurley finds another piece or two for next season. Like guys who can shoot. Munford is too streaky, it looks like.
I'm sure EC will be the real deal. He's going to need some help, though.

We lost the game by not going inside in the second half, we controlled them in the first half and the offense ran nice through the high post but for some reason in the second half we decided to shoot the 3 (shot poorly all night)

Re: Game #9: @ Providence College - InGame!!!
So Rod, are you blaming the players or Hurley for the lack of defensive intensity in the 2nd half?
The coaching staff can only do so much. There are WAY too many holes on this team, to be able to plug them all.
For URI to win games against better teams, they've got to shoot better. 3-18 from 3 won't win many games this year, even against Fordham.
At least they shot FT's better. Of course, PC shot 24 for 26, and they weren't much better than us in that regard coming into tonight's game.
As for rebounding, there isn't any, and there won't be this season, unless O can play.
One last thing, do you really think we were going to win at their place, this year? I was hoping, but not optimistic. Sorry.

Again, THIS was a very winnable game, and we wilted in the second
half against a team playing six guys, including one who was hurt.
Goddamned right I thought we should win, with the circumstances.
Even some diehard PC fans that I know, felt they'd lose.
THIS YEAR! NOW!
I would point out, that PC has some damned good players sitting out, so
there's no guarantees about next year, either.
Hell, get pissed! We lost to PC. Screw next year.
We took some giant steps backward tonight.

Re: Game #9: @ Providence College - InGame!!!
PC stayed home a bit more, and dared URI to hit shots. For the most part, URI couldn't - Munford went 0-for-8 from 3-point range, and while two or three of those were forced, end of shot clock things, most of them were just open misses.twisted3829 wrote:We lost the game by not going inside in the second half, we controlled them in the first half and the offense ran nice through the high post but for some reason in the second half we decided to shoot the 3 (shot poorly all night)

Now KMac is tweeting that Cooley wants to play all the series at the Dump.
Bullshit! We went 33 years without having a real home game vs. PC.
Glad Hurley said, "that's not happening!"
Lot of nerve by Cooley.

Re: Game #9: @ Providence College - InGame!!!
I agree with Rod. This is becoming a trend where we hang around....then fold. I'm willing to accept we're outmanned and not outcoached, but I'll feel much better if/when THIS group of guys nuts up and plays for 40 minutes. Norfolk State was disappointing. Seton Hall was frustrating. This PC game was hard to watch for the last 14 minutes or so.
I believe in this staff and our future, but I'm now measuring progress this your by whether we kick out habit of folding like a cheap suit in the second halves of games.
