This is nothing new. This stuff goes on everywhere, except in the Ivies and some others.

In the mid 60's the course du jour for URI athletes was Horticulture 41 - aka HORT41.

People who post on this board are ridiculing the writing of others. I'm not sure how anybody can prove that paper got an A-.

I hope Lamar's essay to President Carothers is never found and published.
Reminds me of the Harrick son's class at UGA on college basketball. How many halves in a game? How much is a 3pt basket worth? etc.....

Players taking joke classes happens everywhere, including here. Ever wonder why a lot of athletes major in sociology or communications?

KB my freshman year there was a football player in a persuasive writing course I was taking that could barely read. You ever come across people that bad at URI?

I hope they never write an article on a course I took in college (for 1 credit): How To Coach Flag Football." I also got an "A."

I'm not sure how things work now, but in the 1960's, if you were on an athletic team, you got one credit for phys ed each semester. Also note that phys ed was required your freshman year. Unless you were a total slacker you usually received an A. So over a four year period that amounted to 8 credit hours that helped the academic average!
I think that only about a third or less of the athletes in the house were phys ed majors. A lot were business majors and a few were actually engineers to include Mike Firzgerald '66. A lot of the phys ed majors went on to be very successful high school coaches.

Not only was it really short, but his paper was taken word-for-word from a book.
