Basketball News (non-URI)
Thought we could use a thread to talk about general basketball news stories, not directly related to URI, that may not necessitate their own thread.
Here's something to start with- Dayton center Matt Kavanaugh suspended for the season.

In other non-URI news, did anyone see the ESPN 30 for 30 on Benji Wilson? I had never heard of that story, how sad!!!

Re: Basketball News (non-URI)
It was incredibly well done. His story is one I've always been a little familiar with, just from following basketball, but I did learn some new things. They did a great job putting it together.URIGONZO wrote:In other non-URI news, did anyone see the ESPN 30 for 30 on Benji Wilson? I had never heard of that story, how sad!!!

Re: Basketball News (non-URI)
Mike Powell tweeted about him, being from Chicago. I think he went to the same high school that Kendall Pollard is at. Yeah, he was described as "Magic Johnson with a jump shot", top high school player in the country at the time. I haven't seen the show. I'll have to check it out when they replay it.URIGONZO wrote:In other non-URI news, did anyone see the ESPN 30 for 30 on Benji Wilson? I had never heard of that story, how sad!!!

Re: Basketball News (non-URI)
Yeah, he went to Simeon. Before his number was retired, the best player on the team usually wore it each year in honor of him.
I would definitely recommend watching if you haven't seen it.

Re: Basketball News (non-URI)
Yeah don't think we'll be seeing that again, on the east coast at least. Maybe out here in San Diego again, but even that one got postponed from tonight to Sunday. Only difference there was that they did it a few days ago and it didnt affect the rest of the teams schedule at all.

This Duquesne-Georgetown matchup is a pretty good game so far, even with my basketball nemesis Jim Ferry being there.

Trey Zeigler (Pitt) suspended indefinitely following a DUI. Zeigler known best here, of course, as the precedent for playing immediately following your father's firing.

Lalanne will not travel to Boston with the Minutemen on Monday and will not play in the game against Northeastern on Tuesday night.
Lalanne was arrested at the UMass student union and charged with disorderly conduct, assault and battery on a police officer and resisting a police officer making a lawful arrest, according to the university's arrest log.
The 6-foot-9, 250-pound sophomore was averaging 4.8 points and 5.2 rebounds in 20.5 minutes a game in 2012-13. The Orlando, Fla., native had started all six of the Minutemen's games to date, leading the team in blocks (1.8 per game) and ranking fifth in rebounding.
Lalanne was limited to 14 games last season with a foot injury and did not play after Dec. 30.

Re: Yet, Another Dope. Who Can't Stay Out of Trouble
Yep. Anyone else think that UMass will hardly have the great NCAA season that so many were expecting under Kellogg? I think Kellogg is in trouble if he messes up this season. Not necessarily going to be on the hot seat, but they just extended him 3 yrs and fans over there are going to be very irritated.

Sounds like a prospect for Palm Beach State College to fill void of Holton leaving.
