As I said earlier even with a loss to URI today you would have still been in just closer to the bubble. If you win the games your supposed to (us, Mason, duq) then you're fine.
Even if we lose out, we'll be 19-11 with an rpi around 46 and a sos around 40. With enough good wins to get us in. We won't deserve to be but our numbers are strong enough to survive a lost or 2 against bad teams like URI, Duquesne and GMU.
C'mon. It's a complete moot point because I have a better shot of dating Mila Kunis than UMass has of losing out, but hypothetically if it did happen you would NOT be in. Not even close. That would mean you'd have seven losses in a row to end your season including home losses to URI and George Mason along with a loss at Duquesne. The committee would throw your resume in the garbage before you could even say RPI.
Tough loss. But umass was ranked what, #13 in the nation 10 days ago. RPI of 12? Not a bad showing for 4 freshmen and a bunch of transfers. I'm looking at last year as year zero and this year as year 1 of the rebuild. I thought they played pretty good for the youth and inexperience. As a team. EC and Hassan are going to be real special.

Agree with everybody that's saying we can't close games without a true PG. Good news is that JR seems to be coming around a little bit. Bad news is that Biruta, yet again, was a non-factor, because of early foul trouble. I'm losing faith in him. Will he ever be a consistent force for us? I'm not so sure.

Totally agree that you guys could do great things with a solid PG. Do you have one coming in next season? I think Hurley is a really good coach who would thrive will a good floor general type PG. As a UMass fan I hope he has that one big year and bolts, but it certainly looks like Hurley is building something nice in Kingston.
Home finally.
Well, not much to complain about as far as our effort.
A very different team at home.
The usual lousy officiating, even at home.
EC was terrific. Munford was solid.
Hassan had another 5 blocks.
Botton line , you can't win with Gil playing 17 minutes and 6 points and 4 rebound
Reischel played a good all around game. Needs to get in the weight room
to finish plays inside.
Oneykaba played his best game since Maine. Good defense, eating space.
Chaz is an amazing player. He made one shot in the lane, that was,
"you gotta be kidding!"
As usual, we can't finish games. Lack of a PG kills us every time.
I saw Rokas Gustys. I think he said to the guy next to him.
"I must break you!" Big kid. For some reason, sitting with the Murphy's and some big guy with glasses.
On the way out, the bumpkins from UMass making classless
jackasses of themselves.
Why are there no numbers in the parking lot?
People wandering aimlessly looking for their cars.Ridiculous.

The defense ; it seems Coach is of the man-to-man philosophy, but a couple of trips down we did play some zone that caused UMass to have to run the clock down a bit. Maybe some more zone work and mix it in more often, see if more zone is part of the game strategy? Super tough loss, we just can't execute the plays on both ends to close out games. This will come as the kids mature, and the roster is more complete to rotate more players into these games.
I think Hurley needs to gamble more with Gil's foul situation. He was so conservative with the minutes that Gil never even fouled out.
"Every season, college basketball has one or two teams that rise from dormancy to relevancy, squads that make long-awaited charges at the NCAA Tournament and become really fun storylines along the way."
Gil commits stuipid fouls.
The last one, he just shouldered the UMass
player.
Hurley knows how fast he can foul. Did all he could to keep him in
at the end, which he did.
I'm glad wqe didn't get Gordon. Can't shoot at all. I've sen him play
numerous times this year. Nothing special. He's a SG. EC is our SG
going forward.
All you clowns saying Dan doesn't know Xs and O's.
why not go up to him on Monday night and tell him?
He's pretty accessible.
I didn't say he doesn't know how to draw up plays. His Wagner team knew what they were doing.
The players have to do their part, too.
As for Monday night, I'm going to ask him what's up with recruiting. I'll probably get the stock answers, as in we're involved with a bunch of players, etc. I know he won't name names.
But hey, why not try? Would really like to know what happened with Garrett.

This isn't tiddlywinks. I'm sure he knows more than a random guy on the street. But, gotta be fair. We're going on fifty games of really rough end games. If you don't see it as an area of improvement, beyond personnel, we just disagree.
That's what seniors do. EC is a freshman.
Other than Sly Williams, I don't recall one at URI taking over late in games.
EC had nothing to do with Chaz.
I thought TJ and Munford did a good job on him, until the
last few minutes.
Murray eluded to our guards getting tired.
EC is special, and so is Hassan. Only most of what Hassan does,
isn't shown in the scorebook.
At the end of the game when we needed to foul why didn't we intentionally foul Cady Lalanne as soon as the ball was inbounded? Notify the officials that was going to be the play and have him shooting instead of Trey Davis. After all he was 2 for 7 at that point. Why why why???
I think Hassan has been the most improved player so far (from first game to now) He developed extremely well this year and EC is just being EC, just needs the killer instinct
Hassan did hit another one of those nice baseline jumpers. If he adds even just a little bit more offense to his game where he can score on his own without it being on a break for a dunk, an offensive rebound or something right around the basket, he is really going to be a force. As it is, he is already a huge difference maker.

he's got to have the ball to foul, otherwise they'd call it intentional (2 shots and the ball)
I know the major minutes ours are playing is relatively new, but they should be in good enough shape.
Mentally tired maybe? Also if the talent level isn't there, it's tougher to try to keep performing at a high level for 40 minutes? I'm referring more about TJ and Munford, than EC.
Hassan is really growing in confidence.
He gets out and handles the ball, and passes with
poise that wasn't there early in the year.
Bottom line, you need THREE guys scoring to be a top
notch team.
When Gil isn't on the bench, we're a different team.
We need a scorer for next year. That juco DeVaughan Purcell, could be
just what we need.
Most of our guys look better. It's encouraging. I do think they get tired in some way(mental/physical?). Most of the year when we are in the game we seem to have a 60 point ceiling. The offense doesn't come as fluid as it does previous. More turnovers and lapses.
It has to change next year. Still hoping for some victories this year every time out.
Rod, did i see you rooting for umass at one point? LOL
Good effort against a very strong team.
Wins are coming.
They'll get at least 3 more this season, probly 4,
and play in a post-season tourney next year.
Mark it down.
And UMass is going to win some games (plural) after we put the balls away in March.
I was hoping he would take Gil out after his third foul. He always gets them quickly. And they're the dumbest fouls. i think he'd commit them whatever position he's playing. Sure enough, he got his fourth shortly after the third. Just a thought. We could really use Aaman this year.
Also, I used get upset with baron because we always gave up points after a time out. That seems to be the case this year, too.
Bottom line is we just don't have the players to compete for 40 minutes this year.
"Rod, did i see you rooting for UMass at one point? LOL"
No, that was our mutual friend, Ramulous.
I was thinking about the fatigue factor.
We have 7 players, and those guys have been practicing and playing since August.
Freshmen in their first season, transfers off for a year from real
games. Don't mention Bryce Cotton, because he's really a robot.
We had a 7 or 5 point lead and had the ball twice, and didn't convert.
We were tied with what, a minute and a half.
I think after the disappointment of losing a winnable game, our
effort and hustle says a lot about this team, its coach and the staff.

Hey UMassHoops15 thanks for stopping by and good luck to the MM going forward. Unlike many of my keaneyblue amigos here I only hate one college basketball club.
Guess which one that is......
We're gonna run the picket fence at "em.....now boys don't get caught watchin' the paint dry!
I never hated UMass until yesterday.
Bunch of hicks yelling and screaming, and being totally
obnoxious, after the game, on the concourse.
When you're in someone elses place, mind your manners.
Guess Jethro Bodine and friends never learned that.
I agree Rod. I heard them as I was coming down from 305 and thought it was totally disrespectful. Being happy is one thing but you need to remember you are at the opponents' home. I don't think they would've done that if they were near the URI students.
UMass fans are frontrunners. Their team is doing well and there are suddenly lots of fans on the bandwagon being loud and obnoxious. When they are bad, no one comes out to the Mullins. URI fans are more supportive even in bad times. URI's attendance these last three losing years on the court were still better than the UMass numbers of a few years ago. That is even though we have been worse and are a far smaller school. Even last season, the game at the Ryan Center outdrew the game at the Mullins. It didn't matter that URI had a 20 loss season and UMass a 20 win season.

Here's some interesting stats for all you Jordan Hare worshippers.
In 27 games, he blocked 49 shots, last year and 109 rebounds,31 turnovers.
In 24 games, Hassan Martin has blocked 55 shots and 114 rebounds,16 turnovers.
Martin, at 6'7" is better in virtually every category than the 6'10" Hare,
and has surpassed Hare's entire 27 game totals in 3 fewer games!
I've been noticing Martin more in the past few games, but WOW....those stats are eye-opening Rod. You don't hear his name called much during the game, but he is quietly getting things done down low. I've got a ton of hope for EC and Hassan.....I know I sometimes forget these guys are only 18 years old!

Not sure if you do this on purpose but nice cherry picking. You failed to mention that Martin has actually played more minutes this year in 24 games than Hare did in 27 last year. Even without that, the differences are statistically insignificant. Except for the turnovers. Even that is about a half a TO per game. I could say Hare had 31 assists to Martin's six. Or that he should higher from the field.
All of that would be dumb, though. You can't even say Martin would have gone elsewhere. Hare was on the team when Martin committed and signed his LOI. What I can say is that this team would be unequivocally better with Hare on it. Martin moves to PF, Gil to 3, etc. I get that Hare is probably in the rearview mirror but, if you are going to bring it up, be intellectually honest about it.
At risk of being called a Hare worshipper (which I promise I am not, I've moved on), don't those stats also kind of show how nice it would be to have them both playing together?
I think the biggest difference in Hassan from Hare is that Hassan weighed more than Hare did soaking wet coming in, and is 3 inches shorter. Hare just wasn't ready physically.
Attended the UMass game, first one since McNeese State and an entertaining one at that. Despite being in the lead for a good part of the game, the youth and under manned state of this team could not match the poise of the more veteran UMass team in the closing minutes with the game on the line.
• Some careless URI passing led to several break away baskets for UMass, correct that problem and we would have led by more.
• Biruta had his second straight game with less than double digit scoring. His foul trouble and his PT of 17 minutes was a significant contributor to the loss.
• I have to say the basket disallowed at end was a good call though others were not, but the other team could complain about refs also. So no complaints on the refs.
• I like Reischel and his making significant improvement can help the Rams the rest of the way. He has lost some confidence and missed two open threes, but also avoided shooting when he had other open opportunities. His three point play in the second half was just beautiful.
• EC Matthews was terrific, nothing more to say.
• Trey Davis is the kind of player you want on the FT line with the game in balance and Chaz Williams is the leader you need when the team is down and the game is about to get away from you. No stat line covers that talent.
• The young man from the URI baseball team who sung the Star Spangled Banner was simply terrific. Since URI has won eight out of the last nine baseball games from UMass, I thought his performance was a good omen, but it was not the case.
• You can’t criticize the UMass students for being a bit boisterous after the game. I am sure our students would have acted in a similar way.
• I don’t extend that to the 45+ UMass women who sat near me and was totally obnoxious, if not ignorant. But I never remark to her, since I felt sorry given her butt ugly looks, a perfect fit to a “Deliverance” man.
• I loved the guy with the signs, especially the play on DK and hair gel, clever and very contemporary. UMass used to have a guy parading around with signs, but he was not as good looking and the signs were dumb and pure cornball, so typical of western Mass area.
Part of the reason Hare didn't play as many minutes is foul troubles,
and ineffective play.
You can be an ass and call people dishonest, but Martin has produced better than Hare.
For all the crying over not having a shot blocker, Martin is better as a rebounder and shot blocker,
and I know he plays better defense. He also shoot free throws at 10% better.
And who the hell even mentioned Martin going elsewhere? What does that have to do with anything?
If you don't get my points, that's you problem.
