Re: '14 WI PG - Jarvis Garrett (Offer)
Everybody needs to light a candle for our recruiting team.
We need this guy. Or, another one who staff thinks will be just as good or better, that's under the radar at the moment.
The most important time for the short term future of this program [and longer term too] will be this April.
The spring signing period. So much depends on it.
No pressure, eh????

Re: '14 WI PG - Jarvis Garrett (Offer)
http://www.golocalprov.com/sports/recru ... asketball/URI hasn’t signed any incoming freshmen for next Fall, but with only 2 open scholarships at the moment (created by Mike Powell’s transfer and Xavier Munford’s graduation) the Rams aren’t in any rush. Their main target is Notre Dame Prep (MA) guard Jarvis Garrett, according to Flinn. Jeff Borzello of CBS Sports linked Rhody to Rokas Gustys.
Garrett is a 5’11” point guard who is more of a facilitator than a scorer. He has good ball handling ability and makes smart passes, and when called upon he can knock down jump shots from the outside. Flinn is impressed that URI has put themselves in range to land Garrett.
“I know Jarvis is very interested in them as well because they’ve kind of been on him ever since he moved into the area, and right now pound for pound Jarvis is one of the best available point guards out there, so for URI to be at the forefront of that recruitment is a big win for them,” Flinn said.

The only call on 247sports for this guy is Marquette. Hopefully, he is wrong. Like how their crystal ball section works. Ranks the writers based on their history of predictions and how long before the actual announcement they called it.

This guy is absolutely key in my mind.
I'm sure we'll have staff representation at the upcoming tournament in the region, but it would be great if someone could confirm that if they're able to attend.

I agree "sf2010." The point guard situation is our biggest need and he seems to be the very best available. I want to see this kid sign more than anybody else we are recruiting

Re: '14 WI PG - Jarvis Garrett (Offer)
Jarvis Garrett – A Milwaukee native in his second year at Notre Dame Prep, Garrett opted to return for a post-graduate year in hopes of pushing his recruitment to the highest levels. Only mid-way through his post-graduate season, he has already succeeded in that endeavor with varying levels of recruitment coming from the likes of Marquette, Creighton, Providence, Rhode Island, and St. Joseph’s. He’s equally capable of getting into the lane or pulling up with deep range beyond the three-point line and is consequently able to keep defenders consistently off balance.

Re: '14 WI PG - Jarvis Garrett (Offer)
The logistics for having staff at this tournament are daunting.
They can catch the Friday games, but we're playing in NYC
Saturday night, and Hurley said they were going early to
get accustomed to Rose Hill Dump.
Unless they leave someone behind to be at RIC, those Saturday games
will go without URI staff on hand.

Yeah, they won't get to see Cimino, who plays on Fri. night and Sat....Garrett plays Thurs. afternoon, Friday afternoon (3:00) and Saturday. So, they see him once, possibly twice?

We should emphasize three basic facts to our recruits. One, X is leaving, two, you could probably step in and play the point, three, we DO play freshmen.

The opps guys and support guys can't recruit. Only the three assistant coaches are allowed to go off campus to recruit and contact the players.

FACETIOUS & SARCASTICBillyboy78 wrote:You're tough, Bressler.bressler3south wrote:NCAA rules. Really? You're kidding me. Wow.
The Merriam-Webster online dictionary defines "facetious" as "joking or jesting often inappropriately." The facetious person pokes fun at serious situations. Some do it as a matter of routine course while others are careful about the time and place of making light of serious matters. Nurseslearning.com discusses hospital humor as an example. The humor is used as a "coping mechanism" for
horrific things personnel encounter.
Whereas being facetious is an attempt to relieve group stress, sarcasm is intended to cause emotional pain to its target. The intent does not have to be overtly hostile, but is by degree much more targeted with intent to at least make a point. In an article titled "Field Guide: Sarcastic Masters," Psychology Today magazine indicates the line is not clear between what is humor and what is insulting. The article further declares that sarcastic people often "can easily damage relationships and careers with their one-liners."
The initial post: "Hmmmmmmmm. Well, there are 43 assistant coaches and directors of operations………Maybe one of the guys could stay behind."
WE DEEM IT FACETIOUS!

Kids like to see the interest. Can't be avoided in this case.

Why don't members of Keaney Blue show up with a banner. Maybe "Rhody Ruckus" will follow suit. They can at least use the time to practice.

My days of following the high school/prep/AAU tournaments around,
are in the past.
The AAU games in particular were pretty ugly one on one schoolyard
ball.

We need this kid. I think Preston should stay behind On Sunday and be at RIC. That will show how much we want him. We can win at Fordham without Preston. And we can win a lot more games with this kid running the show here for the next 4 years.

Today's game at RIC....
2:45 – Notre Dame (MA) (63) vs Mt. Zion Academy (MD) (57)
5’11 Point guard Jarvis Garrett was the difference in the Notre Dame win. Garrett scored 24 points and hit 6-of-8 three-pointers showing excellent range. He added six assists, four rebounds and two steals to his line.

They say he's a pass first guard, a true point guard. But he's also almost automatic from three when he's open and sets his feet. He's had some huge 3 point stats this year.

Re: '14 WI PG - Jarvis Garrett (Offer)
According to ESPN's page, Marquette already has 5 guys signed for next season (no point guards) plus Fischer transferring in from Indiana.
Duane Wilson (a '13 4 star recruit point guard) is out this season with an injury for Marquette.

He seems to be a perfect fit here, but so did Terrell. One writer is saying he could be a high major player. I hope he decides soon.TexRam wrote:Also according to ESPN, they have 2 freshman pg (according to the recruiting page), and at least one who will be a senior next year.ace wrote:According to ESPN's page, Marquette already has 5 guys signed for next season (no point guards).

Re: '14 WI PG - Jarvis Garrett (Offer)
I remember Trey Dickerson. I think he's from CA.
He wanted to go to a 4 year school, but his grades didn't permit that,
but he has a couple of Big 10 schools on his list, and some so-so Eastern schools
like Fordham and FIU.
