He is active, aggressive and has good hands.
Reminds me of Bonzie Colson Sr.
Exactly the type of player you use the 13th scholarship on, IMHO.

Re: ‘20 NJ C Mounir Hima (Offer)
I am sure you know more about him than I do as I only watched the highlight above.
However, I never saw Tertsea do even one of the things that this kid does in that video - including just catch a pass cleanly.
But like I said, I defer to other folks here who are more in-tuned with high school talent.
At some point, I'd like to see us develop a big with the anticipation of having him ready as a Junior.
Start with basic requirements: Be big, be able to catch the ball, run the floor, dunk the ball off of dump passes, and block shots.
Use 'serviceable' is a starting point and build them up.
Maybe not even a kid that will play full time in your scheme, but that is useful for certain match-ups.
Target a 10-15 min/game kid that can defend a Soriano type, for instance.
If it doesn't work, find them a new place to play and try again.

Raw but way ahead of Tertsea.

At 205 lbs, he won't be holding Soriano down.

Re: ‘20 NJ C Mounir Hima (Offer)
I hate to say it, but there must be something from keeping this kid off of the recruiting trail.
He is 6'11" and plays for what I believe to be a strong team in NJ (maybe the program has fallen recently that I am unaware of). To have such little interest among programs is a little worrisome. Don't want that to use that logic as the measuring stick, just what comes to mind.
Now having said that, he will end up at VCU and rip us apart when Santos-Silva leaves.

I hate to say it, but when you wait until the spring to sign a big, this is what you have to pick from.
And sure, he is 205, but is also 18 yrs old. Again, targeting a contributor as a Junior.
If he is 205 two and a half years from now, then you move on - and also fire your strength and conditioning coach.

The pickin’s are getting slim for Bigs! Who would you like to see on the roster for next year as a big that has potential? And may still be in the mix for us?

If the 1 year sit out rule is waived we will have plenty of bigs to choose from with experience.LoveThoseRams wrote: ↑4 years agoThe pickin’s are getting slim for Bigs! Who would you like to see on the roster for next year as a big that has potential? And may still be in the mix for us?

I don’t remember Tertse having anything resembling the turnaround jumper in that video. We can work with that. Also, we are all scarred by the Duke game when we were playing four guards under 6’4” at the same time. We have more length on the wings on this team (and next year)

I think we get one of our two targets.
Keep in mind, our staff moves quietly. I guarantee the position will be filled.

After today, it is apparent that we need more than one big - and the 'bigs' can't be 6'7"
Position-less basketball was over hyped at the college level.
Looking at the Big East, Big 10 and even our own A-10, - big guys are still very much part of the college game.

St Louis took a chance on an overweight kid in Jimmy Bell.
They worked with him to get in shape.
He will be a problem for us for the next three years.
We need to find our Jimmy Bell

We need at least 1 big that knows he should kick it out to an open man when he is double/triple teamed in the paint

Re: ‘20 NJ C Mounir Hima (Offer)
Our opponents coaches aren't stupid....they know Cyril and JH's tendencies.
You would think our staff has tried to teach our bigs to pass the ball out to open shooters.
But Cyril and JH are who they are.....Cyril is awesome on D, but offensively challenged...and we've know that for a long time.
Some guys can be taught to change, and some cannot.

Re: ‘20 NJ C Mounir Hima (Offer)
The thing is, at the pro level it "works" because everyone can shoot the 3, and spread the floor. If you don't have 4+ shooters, opponents can just play zone, or stick their center / big man-type on the non-shooter. Recruiting that many shooters at the college level is probably just as hard as recruiting a talented big man or two.rhodyblue12 wrote: ↑4 years agoAfter today, it is apparent that we need more than one big - and the 'bigs' can't be 6'7"

Do we have any shot at Gray or Odusipe still? Both seem to be much more coveted and further along. I haven’t watched this guy that close, but does he have a shot to even see good bench minutes at some point?

Saw on the VCU board he has a 7’8” wingspan. You can’t teach that! Interesting prospect.

Saw him at the game. He is one tall boy. A legit 6’10” if not taller

Saw him too. It's getting towards that point where those 3 open schollies need to be filled. And with talent, not bodies.

Re: ‘20 NJ C Mounir Hima (Offer)
We obviously need talent. But getting a little late in recruiting cycle will probably need to settle for atleast a "body" or two. I have been giving Cox a big pass thus far on "roster management" issues that some have brought up over the course of the season. But this is a giant red flag having 3 slots open with so many needs. If you want sustained success as a program this can NOT happen!!theblueram wrote: ↑4 years ago Saw him too. It's getting towards that point where those 3 open schollies need to be filled. Team prepardness & monumental late season regression combined with what is looking like a botched recruiting class is making me lose faith in Cox rapidly.

Re: ‘20 NJ C Mounir Hima (Offer)
Cox has to turn it around next year and recruiting the 3 openings is the first indication whether he will or not.
It's not trending in the right direction currently, that's for sure.
If he flops, the calls for his job will increase big time, and rightfully so.
Looking back at his contract, URI made the right decision by not giving him the farm.
But of course, he'll likely be here 2 more years at least....URI just doesn't let coaches go with 2 or more years left on their contracts.

Re: ‘20 NJ C Mounir Hima (Offer)
He looks, like someone should come out of no where when he is standing on the baseline, and say: "Sonny, are you looking for something?"
"yeah, I'm looking for the bathroom"
"Oh, he's just lost, everyone, he should have taken that second left in the corridor with the sign on the door, I'll just bring him back where he came from. Please, don't let us interrupt your game"
He wasn't even a starter on the team. He was either 2nd or 3rd string and they were getting demolished by the other team.
There is a HUGE divide between that Bacon kid that was missed out on to VCU and this one. Enormous.

Re: ‘20 NJ C Mounir Hima (Offer)
With the Mitchell twins and Jermaine I don’t see how having him as the 13th man is a bad option. 6’11” big is good to practice against and the hope would be for him to contribute as an upperclassman. With players transferring after two years I don’t think it would be bad to develop a guy that can get experience through 4 years of playing here.

Hey, I'm 5'9 moderately obese and out of shape, do you think Fatts would like to play against me in practice? I could help show him what not to do in just about every situation you can imagine on the court. But we are the same height, so... yay me

If he could get off the bench.
Hey, thanks for the compliment, btw. I learned a few weeks ago that I'm the same age as Cox and around the same age as Hurley too, I believe, yet we are some of the younger guys on this site.

Re: ‘20 NJ C Mounir Hima (Offer)
Well, don't forget, he was originally Michael Tertesa. A poor man's Michael Tertesa.
That kid, Bacon, is going to play. VCU doesn't have a choice now. He probably would have been a 10-15 min clean up man here, but at VCU he is likely one of the men now.
Idk, I think with so many good players we are mentioned with, this would be a disappointment, and a roster filler, the twins aren't going to get pushed by this guy. But, if that's what Cox wants, I won't challenge it.

We need shooters. That has been our kryptonite lately. Consistent shooters. On the floor, 3pt and at the line.

Re: ‘20 NJ C Mounir Hima (Offer)
They don't even have to be lights out shooters at this point, they just need to hit at a higher percentage than our previous shooters (which isn't that difficult), and it will make a difference on the floor and in the box score card.
