Big turning point to the season if our Rams can pull this off. The one home game against an upper half league opponent did not go well, in the interest of building up confidence for a late-season run and potential path for a conference tourney run this would help. Otherwise if Rhody can't win one of these we are staring at within a game north or south of a .500 record just off the basis of beating up inferior opponents.

Their wins haven’t been that impressive though. They lost to Davidson and then won 4 close ones in a row against Fordham, St Joes, Richmond and GW. Their next 4 are against St. Louis, VCU, URI and Dayton so we’ll see where they are after that stretch.

VCU completed their OOC schedule with a 9-4 record versus the Rams' 7-5 mark. Their OOC SOS was a bit higher than ours and our only common foe was the College of Charleston. Both schools lost to C of C, but VCU gave them a better game losing by 4 and URI lost by 11. Several factors mitigate that comparison; first, VCU played them at home in their 11th game of season whereas URI played them on the road and in the second game of season. VCU has a more veteran team, with freshman overall getting less PT than URI. URI freshman average PT is 67 minutes versus VCU at 30 minutes. Their top freshman is Vince Williams whose PT is lower than three of our guys. So how the URI freshman handle the pressure of an important game played at home against a veteran team will be key.

VCU is a good matchup for us. They can be offensively challenged, aren't a great shooting team and aren't particularly big. Could be a rock fight game played in the 60s as both teams rely on defense. I think Dayton and Davidson will be our most challenging matchups bc they are efficient offenses with multiple guys that will be hard for us to stop. Hope we get a big crowd on Wednesday, would be a great confidence boost for this young team to keep the streak alive vs VCU.

My guess is game will attract 7300+. If student interest is very high, URI may go over the student allotment and make it a sellout.

Since VCU sells out all their home games, it would be nice if we could return the favor at least for this one.

Still sucks to have to work full time, but starting next season that will all change and I will be a frequent visitor to Kingston....finally.

URI needs to not get desperate in response to VCU’s defense. Know what shots they should be taking, and don’t give in to what VCU wants them to take. Home court advantge should be the difference in this one.

I love hearing this from Fatts. Winning basketball games is hard, and all the veteran guys (Jared and Jarvis and EC) he joined last year already knew that. They had been through it all to get to that point. Sometimes when guys join something that’s already successful, they don’t appropriately recognize and appreciate the work that it takes to get and stay there.

I agree it should be a packed house but don’t go by the blue dots. Most of seats were gone in the 300s for the Bonnies game based on the dots and then in reality they were mostly empty.

Winning in front of a sold out crowd pays huge dividends.

That would make winning this that much bigger.

To beat a top team at home in a rebuild year, would establish a lot of faith in the fanbase and likewise the players to continue this winning culture.

Our lack of a single senior seems to lead us to wilt under pressure on the road a bit. Advantage URI.

The game isn’t going to be a sellout. Tickets available. Hopefully we get a good walk up base and a great student showing. Expecting a great crowd. Time for all season ticket holders to show up. If you are thinking of going to a game this year, this is the one. The crowd will be electric.

I don't see where you guys are seeing close to a sellout. Not a lot of the seats in the 300s have been sold. Don't go by the green dots. We're going to need a huge student turnout to make it a big crowd.

Okay, I think there's some confusion. The $15 Coaches vs. Cancer seats are nearly sold out (low availability in sections 207 through 211 and all other sections sold out):

Coaches vs. Cancer Seats

However, the Main Purchase Link from gorhody.com for all seats have much more availability.

Most of the 100 level is unavailable, but there is at least some availability for most of the 200 and 300 levels.

So I can see why some people think it is a near sell out and others don't. It depends on which link you go to.

Thanks, Gopher, for the info on Vince Williams since the VCU website roster lists him as a true FR. Also, I thought Xavier Jackson is a VCU senior, at least that he is how he is listed on the roster. Actually, the Vince Williams input bolsters the comparative observation about the stronger experience and depth of the VCU team versus URI. So let me re-phrase my original statement, true freshman on the URI roster are in action 67 minutes per game versus VCU true freshman at 8.6 minutes. Thanks for helping me make that clarification.

I don't have a good feeling about this game. I fear that VCU's great D will stymie and frustrate our Rams. Will cause them to stray from game plan and go back to old bad habits of jacking up too many tough shots, especially threes. Hope I am wrong but memories of what I witnessed earlier at the Ryan Center against Stony Brook and George Mason are still with me.

No confusion on my part, my prediction of 7300+ is based not on the Cancer link but on the main purchase link which shows about 500 tickets left unsold. And my guess assumes small walk-up ticket sales which is a stretch at best.
