Gm 2 Football vs Albany 1pm Sat Sept 8
Albany lost 33-7 @ Pittsburgh on Saturday
Vince Testeverde (son of Vinny) won the starting job at Albany as a 5th year.
Vince went 18-29 for 263 yards for 1 TD and 2 INTs
Vince transferred from Miami and sat out a year at Albany before becoming eligible this year
He last appeared in a college game back at Texas Tech during his Freshman year there. He later transferred to Miami, his dad's alma mater
Albany was predicted to finish 9th in Preseason CAA. URI predicted last at 12th.
There is a very good chance his dad, Vinny, makes the trip up to Kingston from Tampa for Saturday's game.

Fairly respectable score by them against Pitt. Vinny jr I'm sure is pretty good.
Definitely winnable. Would be another pretty big win for us.

UNH=great program.
But if Rhody or Maine were beat like that-they would be in bottom 25.

Hal, you are right that big losses like that usually cause teams to drop out. But, to be fair, UNH lost its QB in the second quarter. He was the league's preseason Offensive Player of the Year. That and 14 straight playoff appearances will cause voters reason to give a team some leeway.

UNH had 32 rushes for a total of -7 yards. Negative net rushing. Can’t remember ever seeing that in any level football game. Maine dominated UNH in all facets of the game.

Re: Gm 2 Football vs Albany 1pm Sat Sept 8
We held Albany to -7 rushing last season. Also held Villanova to 1 yard. Happens more often than you'd think, because sacks and bad snaps result in negative rushing yards. For example, in the UNH-Maine game, the team had -38 rushing yards (bad snaps), the starting QB had -20 yards and the backup QB had -11 yards. Those three things along had UNH at -69 yards, with the running game having little to do with it.
Between that and being down 22-0 at the half, it can seem like the rushing attack was less effective than it actually was. By all means, Maine outplayed UNH by a wide margin, but I'd be wary about putting too much into one game.

Yes. The game is the CAA Game of the Week for Fox Sports Go. I don't have the direct link yet, but once I do, it'll be on GoRhody.
The stream will be free this week.

Good catch, Rhowdy. I did not know about that one. Makes sense though.RhowdyRam02 wrote: ↑5 years ago We actually were ranked 25th in 2005 when we started 3-0

Last season when we got votes following the Central Michigan game, I reached out and asked the folks at STATS the last time it had happened. In their records, it was the year end poll in 2001. I will amend the GoRhody post accordingly.
Thanks!

The Great big doggy Danes are probably one of the weaker teams on our conference schedule. Them and W&M are the only ones picked in the bottom half left on the schedule. Well Maine is too, but they are definitely better than expected.
Winning these types of games can put Rhody football in position to make some noise.

Hi guys,
What a great win for Rhody last week! Cannot wait for the home opener on Saturday.
We discussed last week on the podcast and looked at the matchup with Albany. We're taking Rhode Island -1.5 all day!

Liked the pod casts. Lots of detail.
To question of fund raising on heels of multi million donations-there will be further opportunities discussed this weekend.
Not sure if it is for the extra million they need or beyond. Will find out.
Now certainly is the time.

Re: Gm 2 Football vs Albany 1pm Sat Sept 8
HK, Why I like Rhody here.....
It does not make much sense with our history and having been picked 12th out of 12 Teams in the CAA BUT some noticeable plusses:
- Aaron Parker did not play in the 1st half due to being penalized from last game last year - he will play full game vs Albany
- Zoe Bryant was solid at Running Back. He looked solid in preseason. He was by one publication the top RB in New Jersey his Sr Year. He is back playing RB at URI as we switched him from defense. Could be in for a strong season from Zoe
- Branyan Javier-Castillo looked great in preseason and looked great in his 1st game as a URI Ram. The CC Transfer is a very good player and excellent strong side linebacker. Expect big things from him in upcoming games
- Right Tackle Grad Student Kadin Booker looked strong. He is a 6'7" 290 lb Right Tackle. 5th Year Transfer from Ball State where he started last season
- JaJuan Lawson is the right guy at QB. He is a leader, respected by his teammates, can pass from the pocket, can pass on the run, and can run the ball.
- Offensive Line is good with Kevin Lawrence, Kadin Booker, Dwayne Scott, Adriel Miller and Kyle Murphy.
- Defense is solid
- Wide Receivers are excellent
- Starting Line Up on Offense and Defense is all Juniors and Seniors. Only exception last game was Isaiah Coulter at WR (SOPH) but that was because Parker had to sit out the 1st half.
Hopefully we are addressing the Punting game this week, and the silly penalties. The back to back penalties on offense of 12 men on the field and then 5 men in the backfield were brutal.

We have experience, a good defense and a good quarterback. Pretty rare for us.

Re: Gm 2 Football vs Albany 1pm Sat Sept 8
There has been 6 starting QB's in last 6 openers?
I bet 8-10 in total (starters) over same time period.
Look at # of All conf. QB's (1st,2nd,3rd team) since 1985??
Compare vs. Maine and UNH.

Re: Gm 2 Football vs Albany 1pm Sat Sept 8
I agree with you Ramster about Lawson. Every interview I've read/listened to he comes across as well spoken and very mature. Very impressive young man.
I liked what I saw out of Bryant, but that personal foul towards the end of the game almost cost us big time. We had 4th and 1 on the 50. The 15 yards pushed us back, and with our punter having a horrific game, they ended up with the ball on the 40 yard line down only 2 points. Fortunately the defense made a play. Dickerson, Hogan, Gianetti, and Javier-Castillo all played well. Other guys like Nas Jones had solid games as well. Go Rhody!

Knocking on the door again and they score. Aaron Parker is an amazing talent as he runs for 59 yards. Then Lawson hits Parker with a perfect pass for the TD. 21-7 URI.

The very first play was a disaster, but after that the offense has really been clicking. Wide receivers are making plays and Lawson is making good decisions.
Defense struggled with a few ill timed penalties on the first drive, but have stepped up and made plays. Big time return to end the half with huge momentum.

Very impressive. Aaron Parker looked great early but other receivers stepped up too. Lawson plays with a lot of confidence.
