Game #9: Delaware State - GameDay!

Unread post by ATPTourFan »

The Delaware State hornets invade the Ryan Center Saturday at 2pm. Rhode Island needs to win this game and finish the rest of their OOC schedule with a perfect record to enter the A10 conference season.

http://www.bbstate.com/games/2014-12-13/DEST-URI

KenPom gives Rhody a 93% chance to win and estimates a final score of 71-56.

KenPom rates Rhode Island as the 68th best team in D1 games completed to date and the Hornets come in at 281.

Game 9: Delaware St. at Ryan Center at 2 12/13

Unread post by RhowdyRam02 »

Tomorrow we take on 4-5 Delaware St. for the first time in program history. There's no TV or radio listed so far on gorhody for this one. Are you worried that the team is going to come out flat after the PC game? Are you concerned that Coach Hurley doesn't have the team breathing through their eyelids when they shoot their foul shots? If so...

Relax. This is a good young team that has come back strong after their previous two losses and those wins came on a neutral and away court. Tomorrow they finally get to play their first home game since the Nebraska win almost a month ago. Delaware St. is easy to score against, they've allowed 76.4 points per game. Tomorrow we get back on track, score at will and get back in the win column. Enjoy it, I plan to.

We should be favorites in the next 6 games. If we take care of business there is no reason we shouldn't be sitting at 11-3 and preparing to play VCU in a big-time match-up @ The Ryan Center!

Game is listed on Cox web as on for $5. Any "magic sites" like the one for SMiss that is free?

Delaware State is a historically black, public institution founded in 1891 in Dover, DE. The school was originally called The State College for Colored Students and the name was changed to Delaware State College in 1947. The current name was adopted in 1993 and the college is now open to all races. The school has about 4,000 undergraduates and 500 graduate students on a campus of 350 acres.

Delaware State athletic teams are nicknamed the Hornets, and the school plays in the MEAC. Last year, DSU basketball had a 9-21 record, 5-11 in the MEAC. They play their home games in 2,000 seat Memorial Hall Gym.

The Hornets and Rams are meeting for the first time. Delaware State is 0-12 all-time vs. current
members of the A-10 Conference. DSU is: 0-5 vs. Dayton; 0-2 vs. Geo. Washington; and 0-1 vs.
Virginia Commonwealth, St. Bonaventure, St. Joseph’s, La Salle and Duquesne.

Hurley's Wagner team beat Delaware State 85-62 in his second year there.

Delaware State is coached by Keith Walker. His son, Dockery, plays basketball for Brown.

The scheduling turns out to be a bit strange. Last Ryan Center game saw a capacity and rollicking crowd including about 2700 students, Then for 21 days no games and next in comes a team we previously have never played. Given the circumstances, no question that the crowd will not be anywhere near the Nebraska game in size, but will it break 4000?

These next 3 games will be filled with empty seats in the Ryan Center. I feel we'll be lucky to get 4000 tomorrow. Comparing it to the winter break UNH and Southern Miss games last season which were around 3200-3500, I'd be happy with 4000. The luster of this team with the casual fan has vanished with the losses since Nebraska. More of the same folks...

Pace drew 4210, Lowell drew 4320, and the students are still on campus, so I'd imagine somewhere between 4000-4500 with it most likely right around the 4300 we got for Lowell.

VCU hasn't been great this year so I can see Rhody being favored in that game by a few points since it is at home.

Be nice to knock off those six in a row, though. Road league games are never gimmes. I would probably sign up for 5-1 right now.

I have two tickets available to tomorrow's game --- FREE of charge

Seats are courtside along the baseline next to Visitor's bench.

WARNING: I am loud and obnoxious during games. If you don't like that or whoever you are bringing does not enjoy that type of behavior then I suggest you do not say you are interested.

Please private message me and I will get back to the winner later tonight. My plan will be to leave the two tickets at Will Call 30 min. prior to game time.

Good FT shooting team with two bigs, 6-10 and 6-7. Both can score. How Rams' guards play will make the difference in this game - crisp ball handling, disrupting the Delaware St. offense and forcing TO's, hitting our shots, and can I say FT's.

Just noticed that they are now offering a "season package" for the Cox streaming until 12/31. Only $25. Good deal if you expect to watch more than 5 games online at some point since they are $5 a game.

Put me in Blue Man's camp, and others, for me the Reischel and Minnis experiment needs to be over. I have been plenty patient. Neither brings enough to the table, lack any offense and dont do enough in other areas of the game. Minnis and Butler should be 5/6 on the G depth chart. Reischel should be for emergency only.

Yeah really hope this is the start of something for Garrett, and not just a good game against a terrible team. I know he has it in him, so it's just about confidence at this point I think.
