Week #5 - Games of Interest

Unread post by Obadiah »

Now that the Orlando Classic is over, we know the identities of all URI OOC opponents and I can begin to compile a combined won and loss record for the group. While the key ingredient to post season chances is on how URI performs this season, the Rams’ RPI will also be impacted on how our OOC opponents perform which is why we should root for these teams the rest of the season.

Right now the combined record of our ten D1 opponents (D2 Pace is not included) is 51-30, 0.629. Only Brown shows a losing record. BTW, Pace's record is 2-7.

Week# 5 polls have just been released. In the USA Today Coaches Poll, no A-10 teams are ranked and only VCU is getting some votes. Kansas is ranked at #10. Nebraska and PC are getting votes.

In the AP Top 25, again no A-10 team is ranked. VCU and Dayton gets some votes. Kansas is ranked #10.

No A-10 games tonight.

In a game with double OOC relevance, Brown vs. PC at the Dunk. 9PM. On Fox Sports1.

oops Fordham is 229

UML is 6-3 and 2 of the 3 losses were to top 50 teams (us and Ohio St with the third loss coming to Cornell), they have wins over NJIT twice as well as Sacred Heart, BU, Fordham and a D2 school

Thanks twisted for posting these RPI numbers. While today's RPI may not be representative of what it will settle into, it is fun to track how the RPI changes with each game. Also, given the small sample size, the difference in the RPI among A-10 schools is more a reflection of the strength of the OOC schedule than your record. UMass and Duquesne have similar records, but the RPI difference is huge and just shows what a crappy OOC schedule Duquesne has.

With 10 minutes left, Florida is leading Yale 72-29.

That's not a typo.

And Yale just beat UConn and gave PC all it could handle?

Say whaaaattt?

Any team can lay an egg once in a while especially after a huge win over UConn. Believe me Yale is a decent team will be very surprised if they do not pose a serious threat to Harvard for the Ivy title.

Anybody think maybe the Bonnie's or Davidson or just kicking around the idea that the A10 might not send the same teams from last year but still grab 4 or 4+ bids? I think the league has cycled different teams into the dance lately.

Could be a combo of teams expected and some surprises.

PC and Brown 30-30 at the half. Evenly played, neither team impressive.

PC looking forward to Wednesday perhaps? Let's hope they don't wake up then.

We can definitely beat them the way they've been playing. Cooley probably kicking their asses as we speak.

Anybody watching this?? I bet there is a correlation between PC's recent struggles and teams realizing they can't shoot or create offense.

PC looking like a pile of dog poo right now against Brown. Score 32-32. Dunn appears to be turnover prone. TJ will eat him alive if he plays against us like he is against Brown. Sloppy passing by PC as whole as well. Game looks a bit ugly and if there's one thing Rhody can do it's win ugly.
The Dunk looks really empty for this game. Some teams have all the luck. haha.
Wow...just saw Henton get rejected, Henton miss a shot, Desrosiers missed a couple layups...all in the same possession.
PC looks terrible when shooting from the perimeter as well.
I think we have a really good shot this year a beating PC! If we don't, by the looks of things, our RPI will most likely be hurt down the road by what looks to be a pretty average PC team.

Just looked at PC's roster stats...I can't believe what I just saw...Desrosiers (5 of 7 at .714%) and Bancroft (5 of 8 at .625%) are their best 3pt shooters so far...then Lidsey (8 for 19 at .421...guess the kid likes to let it fly). Henton is only 12 of 36 at .333% from behind the arc.

Brown up 6 right now...50-44...damn!

Crazy that PC isn't even denying the passing lanes. You would think they would try to at least out-athlete Brown.

This game looks a lot to me like a team that didn't take a less talented opponent seriously from the opening tip. PC looks like they're sleepwalking through this game, with no spark to be seen. Brown has a legit shot at pulling this off, as they are converting the one thing that underdogs need, the 3 point shot. You can see the confidence, and the sluggishness from PC.

PC will be up and energized for us Wednesday, no doubt about that. That being said, if we can bring it from the opening tip, I think we'll win this game. PG play as said a bunch on here, will be the difference. Henton has looked like crap since the Kentucky game while Harris remains the most consistent player on that team. Feeling good going into Wednesday fellas.

I don't know how to take this one - do the Friars come out Wednesday real motivated to take back their season by beating up our Rams or is it the Brown loss shows PC to be no big deal and boosts the Rams confidence going into game.

In A-10 games Tuesday tonight:

Loyola (MD) at Saint Joseph’s. 7 PM.

Bowling Green at Dayton. 7 PM.

South Dakota State at Saint Louis. 8 PM.

Not a lot of exciting action here and the A-10 should go 3-0.

No games involving URI OOC opponents.

Great. Now the pressure is REALLY on us to win tomorrow.

Now we're expected to win this game. With PC losing to Brown, if they beat us what would THAT make us look like?

Most of the posters on the Scout board now expect us to win.

Actually, if we continue to play good defense and make some shots, we should win.

Cooley will have PC playing desperate. We have to match their intensity out of the gate. If we do, we should be OK.

Oh wah....your TV contract that gives you a million a year and national exposure needs you to play a shitty team on a Monday night and you can't handle it?

Go. Fuck. Your. Selves.

How hard must your life be up in friartown? What a bunch of weak stick softies. Baby shit soft.

Is the schedule of a Saturday and Monday game tough? Did you want to have a mid-week URI game?

I dont care what you say, there's no excuse to lose to brown. None. AT HOME NO LESS? Seriously douchebags, you played a team that will be a door mat in the ivy league...the fucking ivy league.

Sorry your fans didn't show up at all. Sorry no one cared or respected their opponent, but scheduling has nothing to do with that loss.
If you say you’re a Rhody fan, I know you are my brother. For you have suffered as I have suffered.

“The issue for Fox is they want programming that leads into their studio show,” Driscoll said. “We have roughly the same number of nine o’clock games across the conference this year but a game on a Monday night is difficult. It’s a tough sell.”

Umm...welcome to the club. URI has had to play in games like that...especially in January during school break.

Got an issue? Get a tissue!
Someone give these bozo's a rattle and pacifier because all I'm hearing is "Waaaaahhhhhh, I want my mommy! Waaaaahhhhh Fox is bending us over and making us take our millions in the butt....Waaaahhhhh!"

The grass isn't always greener people...should've thought about this long and hard before creating a new conference.

I'm sure Fox was thrilled to see one of their patsies take a dump all over national TV last night. And then cry like a bunch of little wussies afterward.

I guess 4 million doesn't buy as much as it used to. :o
