Game #9: George Mason - Sat Nov 30 @ 4:00pm ET

Unread post by RoadyJay »

George Mason joined the A-10 as of July 1. Mason had been in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) and gained prominence with its Final Four run in 2006. They were one of the founding members of the CAA.

Mason finished tied for 5th in the CAA last season with a 10-8 conference record, 22-16 overall. They lost in the CBI finals against Santa Clara.

The Patriots are led by Sherrod Wright. He is averaging 17.0 ppg and can score from anywhere on the floor. He was a 2nd team all-conference selection last season in the CAA and is a pre-season 2nd team all-conference choice in the A-10.

This game is part of a home and home that was scheduled prior to the Patriots making their move from the CAA to the A-10, and therefore is a "non-conference" game. Mason will come to Kingston later in the season to face the Rams in a "conference" game

Expect a George Mason starting line-up of:
#2 Johnny Williams F Sr 6'8 260
#40 Marko Gujanicic F So 6'8 224
#10 Sherrod Wright G Sr 6'4 202
#13 Corey Edwards G Jr 5'11 174
#0 Bryon Allen G Sr 6'3 202

Key reserves:
#4 Erik Copes F/C Jr 6'8 250

I know of at least one other poster who is making the trip down to Fairfax to watch this one...

I'd like to try and get together for a little pre-gaming. Anyone have a recommendation?

If not, I will come up with a place and a time and post the details.

Will be heading to the game. Last time we played @ GMU, Jamal Wilson went off for like 40 points.

I hope that Coach Paul Hewitt can figure out a way to keep the Rams in it until the end.

Yeah, he will….He's Coach Paul Hewitt, one of the worst bench coaches in the U.S.!!!!!!!!!!!! (Bobby Cremins' successor my ass -- talent galore, no ability to lead a group of all-stars……..See what one great run in the Tourney can do for you!)

I'm sure this question has already been answered but why are we playing this conference game in November? Is it because we have an existing home and home with them that has to be honored? If so this would still count towards our A10 record right?

NJ, it is part of an existing home and home and will not count towards the a10 conference record.

Blue Ribbon has URI a couple of spots ahead of GM, so if that's going to be the case, URI would win this one.

November has been unpredictable for most of the NCAAMB so I find comfort in that.

This is not a tall order and not far to travel, hopefully we have a great effort.

A great game to see where we are right now. Two teams we have played so far were much better and most of the others seemingly not as good, although that remains to be seen. This seems like the most even matchup we've had yet, going into the game.

Anyone heading to the game tomorrow I'm planning to pregame at:

Patriots Pub and Grill
10376 Fairfax Blvd, Fairfax, VA 22030

Small dive bar about 3 miles off campus. Good reviews on Yelp.

Plan to be there by 1:30pm and will stick around until about 3:00pm. Tip-off is 4:00pm.

I'll have a URI sweatshirt on

Vegas has opened up with a +9.5 line for us. The way both teams have been playing, seems a bit high in our favor. Neither team has really clicked yet, might be overvaluing the home court tilt. I think it's a 3-5 point game either way honestly.

Looking for Rhody to take another step forward; hope the focus is getting out to an early lead, hold them in check with better 1/2 court defense taking their shot clock down. hopefully there will be no peaking ahead to Thursday......

It's not digital, but at least I don't have to go the $5 Cox online route.

Oh, WTF? I'm not actually subscribed to SNY. I'd have to buy the entire station for at least a month.

Well, I'm not doing that for a non digital channel for one game. I'll go the $5 Cox route instead.

Here's to hoping they actually fixed the audio problem that has popped up in the 2nd half of every game so far. I emailed and tweeted at them after the last game asking if they were working on it and got no response.

I listen to B101 or whatever Steve and Don are on during the games, have them playing simultaneously. I don't listen to the Cox announcers.

Sorry today it is 920 WHJJ because Christmas Jingles on B101 cannot be interrupted at this time of the day, when everyone is shopping.

Let's all feel fortunate that we're not putting our band up against the Mason band. I wonder if that spread would reach triple digits?!?
