Game #8: McNeese State - Tue Nov 26 @ 7:30pm ET
McNeese State, out of the Southland Conference, have a record of 2-4 after getting spanked last night by 29 against Akeem Richmond and the East Carolina Pirates. They have yet to beat a Division 1 school. Their two victories this season have come against lower division opponents. One against a Division III school (Louisiana College) and one against a Division II school (Stillman College). Their record against Division 1 opponents is 0-4 and they have lost these games by an average of 30 points.
McNeese is led by Guards Ledrick Eackles and Kevin Hardy. Eackles, who is a Senior, only played in 11 games last year before he was booted off the team due to disciplinary reasons. He was voted back on the team during the offseason. He is averaging 16.5 per game but is only shooting 31% from the field. He is the son of former NBA guard Ledell Eackles. Hardy is a versatile player who is averaging nearly a double-double this season (11.0 ppg/8.8 rpg). He was an all-conference honorable mention last year and made the conference's all-defensive team.
The Cowboys are coached by Dave Simmons who coached NBA Hall of Famer Karl Malone. One of the Assistant coaches is David Dumars who is the brother of NBA Hall of Famer Joe Dumars.
Expecting win #6 tonight for your Rhode Island Rams!
Expect a McNeese St starting line-up of:
#22 Ledrick Eackles G Sr 6'3 195
#11 Kevin Hardy G Jr 6'2 180
#20 Adrian Fields F Jr 6'7 230
#10 Craig McFerrin F Sr 6'5 197
#44 Austin Lewis F So 6'8 215
Key reserves:
#2 Jamaya Burr G Fr 6'0 167
#3 Keelan Garrett G Sr 6'0 180 (looks to be injured, did not play last night)
Video/TV: none expected

I know I have a tendency for hyperbole, but in all seriousness this may be the worst team in D1.

This many games is so short a period of time, is one time when playing
so many people for not many minutes, may pay off.
Playing a no D team might also help X and Biruta to get their offense back on track.

Anyone aware of a stream for tonight's game, or Sat's @ George Mason?

The George Mason game is on Cox, so they'll have the stream as well. Tonight is probably going to be like last night - no TV and no stream.

Re: Game #8: McNeese State - Tue Nov 26 @ 7:30pm ET
Watched the second half of last night's East Carolina, McNeese game (along with the other 49 people).
They like to play uptempo and have some athletic guards, and take it to the basket. They are also prone to turning the ball over. Win number six should be in the books a little after nine.
Also, on another point, the announcers keep talking about when we got our fifth win last year (late January). After tonight's game, there are no more cupcakes. Anyone who thinks Brown is one of them is wrong. Wins are an obvious indicator of improvement. If we end up with 14 wins, do we call the year a success? Stop comparing this year with last, in some ways it's apples and oranges. I'd just like to compare November with March. Go Rhody!

I hope this extended exhibition schedule (minus two games we obviously forgot to show up at) shows an improved basketball team by the end of this game tonight - not a game we just win because we're bigger and stronger than the opposition. We only have about 3 games left this year where that will be the case, so tonight better be the final dress rehearsal for the actual season.

Agree, although they've actually played everyone pretty tough. Not sure how good Detroit is, and Southern Mississippi is 6-0 but their wins have come against against even worse teams than ours have.twisted3829 wrote:UNH should be a win

Agree.
ECU had them down 43-29 at the half, I believe, and ECU was playing very loose. If this game ends up 33-33 again at the half, there will be some negative noise out there, and deservedly so.

Re: Game #8: McNeese State - Tue Nov 26 @ 7:30pm ET
In my opinion, in the future they have to figure out a way to get these pre-season tournament games in the season packages or package them early (earlier than they did this year) at a reduced rate.
Also, note to Coach Hurley, I would imagine it is at the very least annoying to play home games to a crowd of 800+, but please keep in mind one of the reasons we see you as the man to right our ship, is to get those fannies back in the seats.
Again as of this moment, ugly or otherwise we are winning the games we should win and losing to the 'better' teams. Once we break through and show we can compete in and win any game by taking out teams like UMASS, VCU, Arizona, etc... it'll be hard to get two seats together for home games.

Re: Game #8: McNeese State - Tue Nov 26 @ 7:30pm ET
Only a few minutes in, but so far not much difference. I for one never really thought the starting lineup had much to do with the slow starts. The same team has started the 2nd halfs when we got it going as well.
With that said, I still think Biggie especially, and EC as well should be starting anyway.

I'm curious about the attendance at the RC. My guess is its similar to last night given the weather and the fact that Thanksgiving is two days from now.

I'm out of town, too, but even if I were in town I think I'd do it through iHeart radio. Sometimes I can't get the signal in the Ryan parking lot.RIFan wrote:This is how I listen. Seems like this could be our best game so far. Definitely against a horrible team, but maybe that is just what the doctor ordered.

Good ball movement against zone. Even Munfords misses look better. EC still struggling on D. Iffy hit deck hard but seems OK. Great hustle on the play. TJ is great in the middle of zone
