Keaney Blue PreGame Party: Dec 28 @ Charlie O's 11:30am
We need to have a Keaney Blue pre-game event at least once this year
We've finalized the get together on Saturday, December, 28th.
Chris Simon, owner of Charlie O's, is very excited to host us and has agreed to give us access to a special $3.99 appetizer menu. He also said that he would buy each of us our first beer (I'm sure you could substitute soda for a beer if you are not drinking).
The options from the $3.99 menu are:
-Cheeseburger sliders w/fries
-Personal Pizza - cheese or pepperoni
-Chicken Teriyaki Dumplings
-2 Hot Wieners w/meat sauce
-Potato Skins
-Chicken Quesadillas
The menu also offers:
-$.35 Wings - buffalo or plain
-$.35 Corn Dog Poppers
Charlie O's opens at 11:30am so we are planning to be there from 11:30am-1:00pm. Game against Southern Miss starts at 2:00pm.
Looking forward to seeing as many of you there as possible! Should be a good time.

Thanks to the great guys that run this message board for creating the venue to share our views and provide us with the opportunity to organize something like this.

Thanks for volunteering to organize it, Jay! I'll help.RoadyJay wrote:We need to have a Keaney Blue pre-game event at least once this year
Totally agree, this must happen. We can do a pre and a post game so we can have the maximum participation. Some fans can stay late and some can come early but have to return home right away.
Let's find a Saturday home game to do this.

The new Casey's open yet?
I'm still sad that the old one is gone. I don't know why, but that is still my favorite bar worldwide. Seriously.

Yes, Chophouse has been open since August, I think. There's only one bar now, a small one, up in the old private dining area at the Eastern end of the building.

If so, that was quite a while ago!
I'm down for a meet up, as usual. It's a hike for me to get to games, so always like to see some people while I'm there.

I've been to the new Giro's a few times and would feel comfortable approaching the owner. they're not doing much of a lunch business so we could easily take the place over pre-game. Decent food and good prices. Let me know.

This first attempt of a gathering will likely be done with the support of one of the RI Athletics partner establishments, reciprocating their own support of our favorite basketball program.
That said, I will certainly make an effort to visit Giro's personally this season. Last time I was there I was with a few stalwarts from the Projo boards.

OK to those establishment places, for the establishment folks......having had lunch few times at giro's recently, we could go there, yes long drive for some, I could also go there and see what they can do for us; just give me the go and...........

I'm a bit confused. If this is an informal event to meet others from the forum, why does it have to be at an establishment that has a business relationship with the Athletic Department?

Read between the lines....A freebie event sponsored by URI,
like the Rhody Joe's event last spring.
I think this is a different thing than you guys are planning,
to meet before a game sometime.

It's intended to be an informal event but shouldn't we first support the establishments that support the program? Yes, we should.

A long time ago we used to have the Slow Break Club. Some of us even brought significant others and children. Mainly what we did was sit around and complain about Jim Baron.

Re: Keaney Blue Pre/Post Game Party
ATP,
With all due respect, an informal gathering should be just that. I'm all about bleeding the Keaney blue and white, but unless it is a sponsored event those attending should be free to choose when and where they would like to go. I highly doubt that there is a venue police patrolling the streets of South County looking to see if Rhody fans are enjoying themselves at places that are not corporate sponsors. Very often you are quick to defend the Athletic Department when the least bit of questioning or criticism arises. It would make someone that doesn't know you (like myself) think that you are either employed there or closely connected to someone who is.

Re: Keaney Blue Pre/Post Game Party
CD, I think you are searching for some kind of conspiracy that isn't there.
I simply raised the idea of getting together before one of the games this season. Several thought it was a good idea and ATP volunteered me to organize it and I gladly accepted.
It was MY idea that we should support one of the establishments that supports the program. At least this first one anyway. I do not work for the athletic department and neither does ATP.

Re: Keaney Blue Pre/Post Game Party
I go to every game and generally go somewhere before or after. It's often not Mews or Rhody Joe's, either. Anyone is welcome to meet up with anyone else at any place and time.
I will attend another gathering at Giros or wherever. Please organize it and let us know when and you will see me there.
Not only is it good to demonstrate support for Rhody Athletics partners, we can likely get a good deal out of it. Win win.
What's my agenda? Simple: Supporting Rhody Hoops in any way I can.

We can pregame at a non Rhody partner and postgame at a Rhody partner. Hell we can go really crazy and do a South County pub crawl and hit em all! The possibilities are almost endless ladies and gentlemen.

I think the venue and date should be chosen by those who likely can attend. If the majority feels strongly that it should be at a corporate sponsor so be it, but if they don't ....

Saturday afternoons simply don't work for me. In the casino business, Saturday's our busiest day, therefore I have to work every one, except when I take vacation time.
Now, after Saturday NIGHT games, that's a different story.
