A potential NBA career, cut short by an injury. URI's biggest "what if?".

He was a very good player hit by a tough knee injury. He definitely had NBA potential. Back then a torn ACL meant the end pretty much. Sounds like he is doing good work in other areas.

Maybe next years recruits of Mathews and Martin can be our next Pappy and Marc.

will never forget that game. Great to see him doing so well.

I think Kenny Green might also qualify as another what if. Bad knees kept him from a possible NBA player. Though I believe his knee problems were congenital and not from injury.

The difference is, Kenny Green had a full and great career at URI.
Upshaw was a shadow of himself after his injury.
Of copurse, the biggest "what if" is if the URI administration had the balls
to declare Lamar Odom eligible for the 1998 team.
Can you say, NCAA Champions?

Lamar vs. Josh King? Well, yes!
Is Kenny Green still a prisoner in some foreign country?

Unfortunately, until he can pay his debt off, he's stuck in Qatar.
I'm told it's a significant number, too.

God, what a mess. Was he there for basketball reasons?

He was playing there. He took a loan.
Rumor has it, he didn't spend it on what it was supposed to be for,
which is part of the problem.

Marc was playing at URI when I worked at WRIU doing play be play and game analisys. A great player and a super nice guy. You're right, he wasn't even close to being the same player after the knee injury. Truely would have had a great career if not for the injury.

We looked at him when he first came here, with Pappy, and called him a poor man's Dr. J.
He had that explosiveness to the hoop, and a decent outside shot.
Quickness and leaping ability were his game, and that left him with that injury.
