I kinda like PC in this game. Think we keep it close throughout and the last 5 mins PC pulls away and and gets it near the number. As a Rhody alum I can never take the friars though, so I'll go with the Rams with the points.

I wasn't on last night, but when I went on to bet today I saw Rhody +6. Vegas has an opening at 6.5. I'll split the difference to eliminate any pushes.

My pick is PC -6.5. I just don't see any way we keep it this close, no matter how bad I want them to.

Was expecting a line closer to double digits, really shocked at this. I think bookies put a lot of stock into home court advantage. Either way, PC -6.5. I see it as a 9-11 point win, as much as I don't want it to be.

the bookies do not determine the spread the betters do
Bookies set the initial number 9or computers do for the bookies) but ultimately the betters set it.

If it is set at +7 points, and a lot of money goes on URI then it could drop to 6.5 or 6 or lower depending on the amount. All the bookie wants is the commission.

I wish the line was higher and I could take the Rams but I'll be smart about it and take PC minus the points. Hopefully if I'm wrong its because we won the game outright.

My gut is telling me to take PC minus the points, but just because its a rivalry and my last URI-PC game as a student I am taking URI +6.5! Go URI! Lets shock everyone!

The linesmakers in Vegas set the opening lines. Using algorhythms and software is how they go about doing this. The line is then adjusted by the amount of money on either side. The goal of a bookie/betting site/Vegas is to get equal money on either side so they aren't exposed if one side wins. Make their money on the vig or "juice". Bettors adjust the line from the opening based on how much money is on either side. Since were using opening lines, it is the bookies that are the main factor here.

I would blindly bet URI at this point with 87% of the money on PC. Fade the public!

By the way, its so early but if you look at KenPom's ratings, URI is like a -3, PC is like a +9, that gets you to PC -12 on a neutral and PC -9 @ Kingston. So I would imagine that most Vegas bettors who know nothing about this game see PC and a value, I have URI rated closer to 1 or 2 and PC at like 7 plus the fact that this is a big game I give URI a 4 pt home edge so I think the Line should be PC -1.

I don't know any bookies any more, but 5 points is a lot. Rhody should cover that, and hopefully win outright. You would think after the PC game, the line would have moved the other way.

People betting set the line.
Bookies only want the same amount of money above the 5 points and below the 5 points. Don't blame the bookies.
I am very surprised how many here thought Detroit would be a runaway.
This game will be very close.
I hope we win but I see a 5-10 point loss to be honest.
On the road.
Juwan Howard Jr presents a difficult match up for us as does the other forward.
Detroit beat South Florida at South Florida.

Rambone, when you say you don't know any bookies anymore it makes it sound like you think that the bookies might control the spread - that is why I questioned your knowing how the spreads are set.

The toughest teams to bet on are the teams you know because you are emotionally attached to that team. Like betting the Patriots, URI Rams, etc.

Some here have said that we should demolish Detroit, like it would not even be close.

Look at the facts:
Detroit is home
Detroit is ranked #96 in RPI and the 36th toughest schedule
URI is ranked #226 in RPI with the 267th toughest schedule
Detroit beat South Florida at South Florida
Detroit lost to undefeated Toledo by 2 points at home - Toledo ranked #50 RPI

I am not surprised at all that the spread is 5 points. This will be a very good win for URI if we can take this game.

I picked for Detroit to win by 5-10 points. Of course I hope we win, but I'll not be as disappointed as most here because most ram fans are predicting a >10 point win.
