Very smart kid. One of the schools he is, or at least was looking at is Harvard.

Wow kid has interest from Stanford and Notre Dame and has an offer from Virginia and he favors Tulsa. Manning must be doing a heck of a recruiting job.

Rhode Island was mentioned among those who are calling... Will be interesting to see where he ends up.

Well, they keep talking about a "stretch 4". This kid is big and he
can shoot. Don't know about his handle.
If he's out there, he's kind of intriguing. Wonder what happened to Tulsa, where
he supposedly was all wrapped up by Danny Manning?

Re: '14 ME PF - Matt Cimino
The two months since have been some of the best basketball that Cimino has ever played. He’s averaging just under 20 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 blocks per game while leading one of the youngest Worcester Academy teams in recent memory that has already taken on the likes of Brewster Academy, Northfield Mount Hermon, New Hampton, South Kent, and St. Thomas More in addition to their typical Class AA schedule.
Cimino’s revitalization has come in correlation to the development of his post game, as he’s playing inside-out for the first time in his career, proving his ability to score on the block in addition to his well known shooting range.
That’s not the only change we’ve seen though as Worcester Academy head coach Jamie Sullivan credits his captain’s maturation as the biggest difference between this year and last.
“It’s his leadership qualities,” Sullivan told the New England Recruiting Report. “He’s been put in that role and responded. He’s posting up extremely well and that’s a credit to [athletic director and former head] Coach Reilly, who has been working with him on that for the last three years, and his endurance is much better than it was last year.”

Garrett, SG, and Cimino or Gustys.

If you think Cimino is that good a shooter, you could go with
say, Garrett, Cimino and Gustys, and use the 2015 for Cochoran as your SG.
Can never have enough bigs.

Exactly. One is a finess player and the other is a hammer thrower.
Cimino is a stretch 4, Gustys is a 5. No conflict.

Re: '14 ME PF - Matt Cimino
You could take both, no doubt. Cimino has had a strange prep career. Seemed to have huge upside early, then leveled off and high major teams backed off. From what I have heard, he has had a really nice year and getting back to offers that match up with his ranking. Also heard Wake was in the mix. I believe he did reclassify a few years ago (which happens a lot) but it's a little red flag for me when you start dominating again after your original class has graduated. In any event, it would be a nice add for 2014. This teams needs guys that can shoot and shoot over the top. Sign em up!

I think a 2014 class without a SG would be a big risk. My guess is they'll bring in someone short term next year at that position.rodfromcranston wrote:If you think Cimino is that good a shooter, you could go with

Small sample size, but Hurley is 2 for 2 in bringing in effective JUCO players.
Also, it will be fun to start scouting the 5th year 2 guards available.

Re: '14 ME PF - Matt Cimino
I hate to get off of Cimino for a minute. Ramster won't be happy. But, does anybody see Matt Butler making a jump from his frosh to sophomore year, enough to play decent minutes. Or, is he strictly an off the bench specialist, seeing 10 or so minutes per game?

Re: '14 ME PF - Matt Cimino
I imagine he'll develop, minutes will likely depend on him hanging defensively. I think too many people treat freshmen like free agent pros. They're not always expected to contribute right away, and limited first year minutes don't make them a bust.Billyboy78 wrote:I hate to get off of Cimino for a minute. Ramster won't be happy. This is really, really well said. I feel like there are some here who get this and try to explain it when people give up on kids early on, but this is a great and succinct way to say it.ace wrote:I imagine he'll develop, minutes will likely depend on him hanging defensively. Staff sees him as a future stretch 4.
Needs to get into the weight room, before he can really contribute.
With Watson, we can afford to take a late bloomer with
potential.
6'10" guys who shoot like Cimino aren't a dime a dozen/

Re: '14 ME PF - Matt Cimino
I think I've mentioned this before, but there is probably a low or no chance that he becomes an All-A10 level talent; those type of players tend to force themselves into a rotation their freshman year, barring someone blocking their playing time. I think the best case scenario for Butler is probably a 15 to 20 minute guy off the bench, maybe someone who stays in longer if he's having a good shooting night.Billyboy78 wrote:I hate to get off of Cimino for a minute. '14 ME PF - Matt Cimino
Watched him play tonight. Granted this is the only game I've seen of him but I was unimpressed. Weak. No D. Flashes of mediocrity on offense.

Re: '14 ME PF - Matt Cimino
First time watching Matt Cimino in an entire game.
Not overly impressed, as Roady Jay said.
Has a good shooting touch, runs pretty well, decent passer.
Poor position on offense and defense.
Doesn't play with much energy. Maybe he's not feeling well,
like several players in the tournament?
Seems a long way from being a D-1 contributor, again, based only on one game.
Needs a personal trainer to put some muscle on and give him some hop in his step.

Sorry, not impressed. Definitely has some skills, but doesn't play with passion. Jogs up and down the court. 6"10" but doesn't rebound. Totally a finesse player. I see why his stock has dropped. I'm not sure he loves the game.

I'm with you guys. Hope we don't keep
recruiting him.
Billyboy might have something. He doesn't look like he's
having any fun, but just going though the motions.
Doesn't battle for position in the post. Got bodied out of the way
several time by shorter players, or had the ball taken away from him..
No fire, and bad/indifferent body language.
Yes, I can easily understand why his recruiting dropped way off.
Again, this is based on one game I saw him.

Well, you saw him Friday. I saw him Saturday and Ramster saw him last year. We all saw the same thing. I'm thinking he's not a Hurley type of player, but the staff has seen him a lot more, so we'll see. It looks like GW is the leader anyway.rodfromcranston wrote:I'm with you guys. Hope we don't keep

Just saw he visited George Washington. Wonder if he is on DH's wish list. Sure would solve big man issue.
Wasn't he at our Midnight Madness? Anyone think we have a chance for this New England kid?

I saw him play at he NPSI in Providence. I don't like his game. He's 6'10", but he's not a big. He's a finesse player. And it seemed to me that he doesn't really love playing the game. I'm not the only one who has noticed this.McRam wrote:Just saw he visited George Washington. Wonder if he is on DH's wish list. Sure would solve big man issue.

Re: '14 ME PF - Matt Cimino
We don't need "soft" players. This guy doesn't seem to fit what Dan wants, which is mentally tough players.
Gil is good at what he does, but he's a finesse player. Watson will add toughness.
Hare, if he comes back, isn't exactly tough either. Gustys seems to be just what the doctor ordered for this team.

Re: '14 ME PF - Matt Cimino
When I say finesse, I mean he's happiest being on the perimeter shooting 3s. And he's not aggressive on defense or on the boards. I've only seen him play once. He might not have been feeling well. Who knows. But, I'd rather have a banger inside.

Re: '14 ME PF - Matt Cimino
When I mean finesse, that's the type of player that doesn't want a lot of contact under the basket. Not as physical.
Gil has got great offensive skills, and he can rebound. He's not a banger though, he can get pushed around. Obviously he's better at the 4, where he's not going to be playing guys that are much bigger than him.
This year, he's been forced to play the 5 a lot, especially with Iffy being foul prone, and Hassan too at times. And that means he too gets in foul trouble.
Next year could be special for Gil, if he's able to play his natural position, and stay out of the middle.

So, can Watson play the 5, or is he more of a 4? (Sorry if I'm off topic on Cimino). Someone mentioned that he looks like he's only about 6'6" or 6'7".
