He doesn't play here, and he's got problems.
All he wanted to do was shoot 30 footers like
Kevin Durant and Dirk.
He must've thought that was the road to the NBA.
Plus, he had a coach, who did nothing to stop this.
Mostly I care about him with regards to how his leaving affects/affected Rhode Island's APR, and if his enrollment somewhere else changes that (retention point). It sounds like it all depends on his academic standing when he left.

Ace, I get that.
I'm talking about the debate over his game, and if he can shoot
in practice or juco, but stunk in D-1.......

To be fair, this is the topic all about former players, and what they're doing now. If you're not interested, it's pretty easy to just skip. If you want to make a separate thread for alums, to suss out what players like Jimmy Baron and Orion Outerbridge are up to professionally now, I'm cool with that, or I can do it for y'all.

I get what this thread is about." Where are they now". Right?
Where guys are is interesting, as is how they're playing, if active.
I was just pointing to the debate over Holton's shooting.
He's gone. Who cares if he shoots well in practice or juco?

Well, I do care about how Holton does. Most posters here never liked the guy even when he was here so it is certainly understandable that they don't care about him now. I get that.
SG,
there are players/coaches who are bound to get a lot of discussion, Billy Baron, Jimmy Baron, Lamar Odom, Jonathan Holton, Al Skinner.............why not create a section for where are they now so that there can be more discussion about players without a thread becoming 9 pages long? These threads get so long that we lose track of what has been said about who and what has not been said.

There are a lot of messages in this 8 page listing (and growing) who I don't care much about either - so it they had their own thread in its own section ie, Recruiting, then it would be better for all. People who don't care about a guy can chose to never open that thread, people who do want to talk about a guy can talk at length about them without pissing people off and then have a bunch of pissed off comments crowing out the subject
just a thought

The other thing is that the list of players who couldn't shoot as freshman but blossomed is pretty long. He's an NBA guy if he shoots anywhere near 40% from three. It's a long way from JUCO to the Big 12, though. Time will tell.

Good find Rhody. He must be working out with the guy from RI who does the training for the NBA Players and used to work with Jimmy.

This from Lamar:

"Won't continue 2 speak on this but I have got 2 let this out real quick. I have let this man and many others get away with a lot of shit. He wasn't there 2 raise me. He was absent ALL of my life due to his own demons. My mother and grandmother raised me. Queens raised me. For the first time since they left, came a blessing of a FAMILY that I married into. FAMILY. That man wasn't even invited to my wedding. He has never met my mother in law and some of my other family. How can a man who has NOT once called me to check on my well being have the nerve to talk so recklessly about his own "son". He is my downfall! His own demons may be the ONLY thing he gave 2 me. He disrespecting the ONLY FAMILY that has loved me without expecting anything in return. They are the ONLY ones that have been here consistently 4 me during this dark time. Only person 2 blame is myself. Say what you want about me but leave the ones who have done nothing but protect and love me out of this! This goes to out to everyone!"

IRVING, Texas - East Carolina senior and Southern Lee High School alum Akeem Richmond has been named to the Conference USA preseason watch list, which was selected by the league's coaches.

The 16-player list features nine all-conference performers, eight with postseason experience and a number of all-region selections and chart climbers. The watch list includes eight seniors, five juniors and three sophomores.

Richmond is the Pirates' leading returning scorer this season after averaging 10.6 points in 20 minutes per game as a reserve in 2012-13. A transfer from Rhode Island, he hit a school-record 105 3-pointers last season. He led Conference USA in 3-point field goals made per game (3.0), a number that ranked 16th nationally.

The Sanford native has already scored more than 1,000 points in his career, and he ranks second among all active Division I players with 261 career 3-pointers. Oakland's Travis Bader has made 357.

Keep in mind, while he was here, he had only been playing for 3-4 years. He grew up playing football I believe. He is much improved, and fits in perfectly over seas. He is a hard worker, so it doesn't surprise me to see him so successful over there.

In other news, there is one Canisius Golden Griffin among the 46 nominees for the 2014 Cousy Award that is given to the nations top point guard. I was more surprised (to say the least) when I misread the article and thought it was for the Naismith Award given to the top player. If it's just PGs, I can't really quibble with BB being included in the top 46.

Speaking of Billy Baron, Canisus opened exhibition part of season last night with a 102-84 romp over D-2 Daemon College. Billy played 32 minutes, was game high scorer with 23 points on 7-10 FG, 3-5 on three pointers.

attached is the article about Holton from WV newspaper. Huggins is a joke. He says upon signing Holton that he will be on the team if he clears up his legal position and fullfills his academic requirements at Palm Beach State. Obviously, the fact that the NCAA has to rule on his eligibility means that he likely did not fulfill his academic requirements eg (graduate from Palm Beach State), yet he is still on the team and practicing. It is really straight forward, if the deal is you have to graduate, and you did not, you do not have a scholorship. Huggins is exactly what is wrong with college basketball.

Anyone want to wager what the chances are that Holton will be around for a year and be eligible next year if they red shirt him?

On another piece of news for our more senior members, just read that Wes Bialsuknia ex UConn (from the 60's)passed away. http://www.wvgazette.com/Sports/201310080291

Really sorry to hear about Wes Bialosuknia's passing.
He might have been the best pure shooter I've ever seen.
He averaged 28.0 PPG in his senior season and is UConn's
all time career average leader at 23.6 PPG.
Amazing performer.

From Wiki "He played for the Oakland Oaks (1967–68) for 70 games and was variously nicknamed "The Mad Bomber" or "The Typographical Terror"; Bialosuknia finished 2nd in the league in 3-point shooting percentage, and his 9 consecutive 3-pointers made is tied for the most in ABA history."
No clue why he only played one year with stats like that.
By the way, he was a teammate at UConn with Tom Penders.
