No wreaths? No Christmas tree? In front of the scoreboard?
Game was shown live on the big video screen. Was hoping to see a replay but not there yet.

Having 6500 screaming elementary school kids at 1 game skews our attendance somewhat. But this team is exciting and promising and deserves much more support.RhowdyRam02 wrote: ↑5 months ago Last year we averaged 1397 fans per game. So far this year it's 2200

Re: 2023-24 schedule
In Saturday's game hosting Bonnies I expected to see a good performance from Dani Haskell who was the A10 Player of the Week announced last Monday.
Dani had a tough day shooting and many of her 3P attempts were off considerably. Credit to The URI defense but also seemed like simply an off day shooting for her.
28 minutes
1-14 FG, 0-9 3P, for only 2 points. She did grad 4 rebounds and 4 assists with just 1 TO
WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named St. Bonaventure senior Dani Haskell its Women's Basketball Player of the Week. George Mason freshman Kennedy Harris was chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Tuesday and are for games played Dec. 25-31.
Haskell poured in 27 points on 8-of-15 (.533) shooting, including four threes, while also hitting 7-of-8 (.875) free throws to help the Bonnies to an 84-72 victory in Saturday's conference opener vs. Loyola Chicago. A guard from Franklinville, N.Y., she also pulled down a season-best six rebounds in the victory. Haskell tallied 10 of her 27 points in the first quarter to help the Bonnies build an early lead.
Harris was one of three players in double-figures on Saturday as the Patriots opened up A-10 play with a win over La Salle. Off the bench, she scored 11 points in 23+ minutes while also helping to aid a defense that limited the Explorers scoring. A guard from Hampton, Va., was second on the team with 11 points on 4-of-9 (.444) shooting, including a team and game-high three made 3-pointers on just five attempts. She also pulled down a team-high six rebounds, also a career-best.
HONOR ROLL
Rhode Island’s Anaelle Dutat secured an impressive 12.5 rebound average across two games, recording a 13-point, 15-rebound performance in a win at Saint Louis … Richmond’s Grace Townsend scored 26 points on 10-of-19 shooting, a perfect 5-of-5 at the line and three steals in a win … Talya Brugler scored 20 points and had eight rebounds, hitting 64.3 percent from the field with 2-of-3 (.667) from 3-point range.

Re: 2023-24 schedule
There is no reason Dutat can't do that every game.
Shooting can run hot or cold, given the player, but not rebounding. If you are a rebounding machine, you don't get to turn that off.
If Dutat is on and Phillips is on, Toure, Hyman, and Davis just have to show up and play above avg and there is no team on their slate that can beat them. DeChent has shown she can stroke it, even if she isn't quite game speed it forces defenses to respect the perimeter. Outside shooting on this team is contagious too, so once those two get going, Hyman is good for a couple, David is good for one. So is DeBroise.

Last year, 3rd game of the season Dutat had a game hi 14 rebounds against PC at the Ryan center, coming off the bench as a Freshman. Next closest was a PC player with 8.jcru wrote: ↑4 months ago There is no reason Dutat can't do that every game.

Dutat was picked Pre-Season All Conference Defensive 1st Team.
Reiss put her in the starting lineup for the St John’s game after she played only 6 minutes vs PC this year at PC. It’s been frustrating to me to see Dutat have limited minutes and not starting until the St Johns game. Since then Dutat has played the most minutes of anybody on the team. Not sure what changed in Tammi’s approach but I’m glad it did. Magassa also had her injury. Possibly two bigs like Toure and Magassa clogged the middle much like some were talking about the men’s team with Fuchs and Brown.
Dutat has been playing big minutes and putting up big offensive and defensive rebounding numbers. She is very unselfish, plays strong defense, passes well and can effectively help being the ball up the court against pressure.

I hope DeChent continues to get more minutes. She is now 8-18 3P for 45.5% on a team where only Phillips has displayed good 3P shooting proficiency.
DeChent can do much more than just shoot 3’s. Ledden can shoot as well so hope she gets more opportunities as Conference play moves along.

Re: 2023-24 schedule
I really appreciate Tammi's willingness to give players the chance to earn playing time. That's what happened with Dutat and Debroise and to a lesser extent DeChent. Tammi has noted that the team's defensive intensity suffers when the offense is sputtering. So it's important to encourage Dutat to take the 8-10-footers she made so effortlessly against St. Louis, give DeChent more minutes and see what Ledden can do. Can't afford any more 44 point stinkers like St. Johns.

Re: 2023-24 schedule
I know, I heard it about earning playing time in practice.
I just find it hard to believe Dutat didn’t earn playing time after playing very well last year as a freshman and being solid as a starter in the NIT games.
An obvious weakness in this year’s team is 3P shooting. Phillips is it. Phillips has improved her strength and her ability to create her own 3P shot.
We need more 3P shooters and now is the time to give DeChent and Ledden some playing time to see what they can do, can’t do but most importantly get them ready for when needed.

Down 8 with 4:53 left. Offense is out of synch. Too many turnovers, missed layups, free throws and 3-point shots. Really sloppy play.

Re: 2023-24 schedule
No getting around it. Bad loss. 34.9% overall shooting, 20.8% from 3, 53.8% from the line.
Meanwhile Loyola shot 41.7% overall, 46.7% from 3 and 93.3 from the line. That's the ballgame right there.
This game was so winnable. Rhody forced 24 turnovers but kept missing bunnies all night long. Extremely frustrating.

Do we know if Dutat is going to be available?
They basically lost their glue guy the last game. It would pretty much be like the Men's side losing DG instead of just gaining him.
They didn't beat Loyola without Dutat. And it's going to be a struggle for them to beat half the teams in the Conference without her, going forward.

Before the men's game against UMass yesterday, I saw the team in their sweats walking in the parking lot. Perhaps they were headed to the airport. Dutat was among them and wearing the same Rhode Island basketball sweats.jcru wrote: ↑4 months ago Do we know if Dutat is going to be available?

That could be huge news then. We'll see. Who knows what the NCAA allows and doesn't allow in these circumstances. But if she plays, they have a shot to win in Richmond.

From GoRhody………
MAGASSA MAKES HER WAY BACK
Rhode Island senior Tenin Magassa returned to the floor last time out at Richmond.
Magassa suffered a dislocated shoulder just after Christmas, benching her for five straight games.
In her return, Magassa provided a boost off the bench and on the boards. She had five points and four rebounds in 12 minutes for a team-best +10.
Not sure the status of Dutat

Only 5 turnovers in first half is good.
Shooting 20% from 3 and 50% from the line not so good.
Fordham's Donaldson a perfect 3 for 3 from 3. 29-20 on a Phillips 3 to start second half.

Re: 2023-24 schedule
Tammi certainly didn't feel that way in her post-game interview. "Sometimes a win doesn't feel like a win." She was angry we were outrebounded, allowed Fordham to get more shots than us, and didn't play great defense. Plus we blew a 19 point lead and let them get back in the game.SGreenwell wrote: ↑4 months ago Held Fordham to 44 points, 29 percent shooting, and turned them over 19 times - all good! A very good St. Joe's team awaits this Saturday, and Tammi said if we don't play better we don't stand a chance.

18 turnovers and a 5-point halftime lead against a 1-7 A10 team does not make Tammi happy. Have to tighten that up for next week's road games against GW and a tough Duquesne squad.

Looking at the box score though you can't expect to win any game when you score 6 points in the second quarter. 15-9, 7-4 and 5th place in the A10 - so much for the preseason predictions of a conference championship. It's going to be a real challenge for this season's team to make any noise in the postseason.

It doesn't sound great.ramster wrote: ↑4 months agoHyman was “undisclosed” as to why not playingBillyboy78 wrote: ↑4 months ago Looking at the box score from today, Hyman didn't play, so Debroise started and played 1 minute. Is Hyman hurt and did Debroise get hurt in the opening minute?
Debroise got hurt and did not return

Re: 2023-24 schedule
34-23 Richmond at the half. Putrid offense for Rhody. 1-8 from 3. 8-14 from the line. 26.9% shooting overall. Toure 1-8 for 2 points, Phillips another bad game with zero points on just 3 shots. When she doesn't score this team is toast. No other threat from 3. 4 Richmond starters are 7-12 from 3. Tammi needs to get some shooters for next season.

Rhody defense constantly letting Richmond get wide open baskets.

Re: 2023-24 schedule
No Hyman or Debroise so no flow on offense. Toure 2-11, Phillips 0-5. Magassa with 12, Davis with 11, no one else with more than 4.
