Keep in mind that Rory Stewart was a starter for this team in games later in the year.. That's how bad we were.

Good win! 2-0, baby!
Would like to see us improve from the charity stripe and not crazy about all the turnovers but we did put up 93 pts despite the TO’s.
Need to clean up those two things and the rebounding by the time the competition gets better.
Go Rhody!

93-80 final
Final score closer than it should have been
Love the high low game others mentioned
Lots to clean up on

That was weird with Fouemna, it happened pretty quickly. Also, 55% FT. Thought they were good in practice?

So great to see us take care of business with ease in these first couple games. Really looking forward to the Mohegan games to see how we stack up against some better competition.

That’s why you can’t make conclusions on 1 game
Ways looked lost and Estevez looked great
The depth chart is clear I’ll leave it at that
House and Montgomery are the key to this season will need them out there for 28+ per night

Re: 11/9 | Fairfield | 7:00PM (ESPN+)
Any particular reason for pulling House after he scored 18 pts in the first half?
Apparently scoring too much can get you a seat on the bench. Let's not do that against better competition, ok?

I assume there won't be many opportunities to play everyone, so Arch pulled the starters around the 10 min mark. I get it, but maybe leave them in a little longer.

I'm guessing after the under 8 timeout, Archie was just seeing what the other players could do. We were up over 30. We won by 13. Not a big endorsement for the bench, but hey, they need to get out there and prove themselves.

You're right ECR. Just pointing it out. We have to make it a habit to finish well though.ElmCityRhody wrote: ↑7 months ago

Can’t complain about the finish when he gave the end of the bench an extended run. Good to see who can do what, when it doesn’t matter. If they’re playing in key games that means a disaster happened.

Re: 11/9 | Fairfield | 7:00PM (ESPN+)
Both games the bench was on the floor at the end of the second half. The starting 5 are clearly a great squad and can take care of things. I think Archie is just seeing what everyone else has during a game. This will definitely help come conference play when he shrinks the rotation.KevanBoyles wrote: ↑7 months agoYou're right ECR. The high low was awesome, House was on track for a hundred for a while...great night. Did we ever have a 30 point lead last year? Ev-er?
Team is so much more fun to watch than last year. May not be received well, but, our best player so far this year is (quite a bit?) way better than our best player last year. More importantly, just a way better team overall...

It hasn't mattered for us yet in these two games but our team free throw shooting has been poor. 16-29 (.552) tonight versus Fairfield and 12-23 (.522) against CCSU on Monday. Could be a potential problem in closer games against better competition.
Otherwise cannot complain much about our start to the season. Got off to big leads in both games and coasted without breaking a sweat winning by double digits. That is far different than last year when our team was getting beat at home by Quinnipiac and Texas State.

Also, EZ did a great job on the PA, nice work! Just enough but not too much. Plus the standing up for the Newport Propane bit was classic!

Definitely a big concern RF1 as well as the rebounding and we turned it over too muchRF1 wrote: ↑7 months ago It hasn't mattered for us yet in these two games but our team free throw shooting has been poor. 16-29 (.552) tonight versus Fairfield and 12-23 (.522) against CCSU on Monday. Maybe it's just me, but last year, every time someone dribbled, passed, or shot the ball, I wondered if we'd see it again....

Now that's entertainment, at least for the first 32 minutes. Forgot what a well coached team with some talent looked like. I'm sure there will be bumps in the road as there are some weaknesses, but finally look forward to making the trek to Kingston again...

Re: 11/9 | Fairfield | 7:00PM (ESPN+)
Who is not being talked about enough IMO in these first two games….
Brandon Weston.
He’s 7-8 from the field, 3-3 from three in 2 games.
Added 3 rebounds in both games and 3 assists tonight.
But most importantly he looks engaged. Is playing his role. Defending at a higher level and not making any stupid plays.
Kid has so much potential and is being a bit lost in all the Jaden Shit Housery of the first two games. Could be a key piece off the bench as the competition stiffens. Would like to see us run some action for him in future.

Re: 11/9 | Fairfield | 7:00PM (ESPN+)
Very nice to have these two wins under our belt but not unexpected.
Sorry but Fairfield is terrible, and they are still without probably their 2 best players Fields and Yetna.
Yes, we are much better than last season so that is very much a positive.
I understand that being up by over 30 points in the 2nd half, you tend to pump the brakes and go deep in the bench.
But still no excuse to give up 56 points in the 2nd half and play lazy defense.
I couldn't believe how many open 3's (48%) they got after the break.
I am sure Archie will lay into them and not tolerate any of the players getting into bad habits and easing up on D.
As well as Ways played last game, he was that much worse tonight on both ends of the floor.
Freshmen Cam, Fuchs, and Fomena will be fun to watch, and our future should be bright.
House has lived up to our expectations, so let's hope that continues as the competition gets better.

Did anybody notice House rubbing his right shoulder and wincing a bit a bunch of times? Hopefully it's something minor. It didn't seem to bother his play tonight.

Re: 11/9 | Fairfield | 7:00PM (ESPN+)
Very surprised they called that a flagrant foul 2 on Foumena. Did not really see it live but looked at it when I got home. It looked to me that they locked arms and his left elbow did hit the dude in the face. But it came up from the hip and was not very forceful. Flagrant 1 was the correct call, there was nothing there that justified an ejection. A massive overreaction to an inadvertent, non-forceful elbow. Is he out for the next game? Does anybody know the rule on that.
