This kid is hardly a “HOLY SHIT COME ON” type of player.

Good 3 point %, hopefully that carries over to a step up in competition.

Someone mentioned it when his name was brought up a week ago, but Bradley's points were pretty well distributed between several players.

Not really wowed by the other schools that were involved, but again we have so many holes to fill that I am withholding judgement until we get the final picture of what the roster looks like. He does have good size and the percentages are solid, though it doesn't look like he takes many 3's. He made about 1 per game.

I'm not wowed either, but he was on the MVC most-improved team this year, so that's something.

But at the same time I don’t want to deal with this dad

If any of you were at the home games versus them two years ago he was in the last row behind the visitors row screaming and complaining

Didn’t Dad consistently tweet at the coach after games to tell him what he did wrong?

A Manhattan, New York, native, Kortright had his best season in Hamden this past year, averaging 10.3 points per game in 31 total games. He was tied for third in the MAAC in assists per game (3.9) and was tied for second with a 1.8 assist to turnover ratio.
Kortright broke onto the scene early in the season and had a career-best game against the Lafayette Leopards on Dec. 10, scoring 14 points, grabbing 12 rebounds and nine assists. He fell one assist short of the Bobcats’ first triple-double since James Feldeine in 2010.
Throughout his career, Kortright played in 71 total games, scoring 582 points and 120 assists as the team’s backup shooting guard.

He's not a good shooter, but he's a pure point guard. Very athletic. He was arguably the best player on the floor when we played them. I would say he's a better version of Bassy. I don't think he's a starter at the A10, but he may be our starter..

Our leading ast leader last year averaged 2.8 a game. Kortright averaged 4... If you're gonna post stats, it's not really fair to leave off the best part of his game..

I hope we can do better, but he can run the offense and is a strong playmaker. Bad shooter, though.

I was in the process of adding more stats to those I listed. In no way, shape or form was I trying to twist the stats. These Internet posts only PPG, RPG, APG and maybe RPG and say nothing about the efficiency of the shooting.

Who cares who we bring on campus and sign, it's not my decision who gets recruited anyway. It's all on Miller - he lives with all the decisions. Bottom line is NCAA or BUST. My bar has not been lowered since 6 years ago.

Comparing to Bassey makes no sense. He is gone from a team that finished 4 NET points away from the very bottom of the A10. We should be comparing to the PG's, PF's, SG's and C's of 1) VCU, 2) Dayton, 3) Fordham and 4) St Louis - the 4 Top Tier A10 Teams in the A10 last Season.

And those 4 teams don't even enable an AT-Large Bud anymore - only a AQ so not like that is over-reaching in comparison of the level of quality that we should be staffing to.

While the shooting percents might not look great, I like the improvement in his Steals and Assists/Turnover as he had a 2-1 A/TO Ratio last year and a solid 120 steals as Stevey pointed out

Keep in mind Cam Estevez was ranked #10 in New England NERR. It could be that Miller is looking for someone to push Estevez, provide a back up or even start for a while until Estevez is ready. They know Estevez well having played for Riverside and Canterbury.

Kortright might be viewed as helping to support Estevez, being him along, provide strong competition in practice, and be a veteran leader of the team.

Miller lost 4 of his 5 starters from the A10 1st round playoff game.
Martin, Leggett, Thomas and Carey are all gone. The only starter from the LaSalle A10 Tourney Game is Rory Stewart. So there is plenty of playing time available.

A couple of articles from back when Estevez signed. Maybe Estevez steps right into the PG Role?

By ZACH SMART
Following a summer in which he solidified his status as a clutch shot-maker and heady lead guard, 6-foot-4 Class of 2023 guard Cam Estevez of the Riverside Hawks and the Canterbury School (CT) committed to Rhode Island on Monday.
The Harlem native cited a tight relationship with Rams first year head coach Archie Miller and assistant coach Duane Woodard as a vital factor keying his decision.
Rhode Island’s uptempo attack and the freedom they give their guards also intrigued Estevez, who chose the A-10 program over St. Bonaventure, Mississippi State, VCU, University of Central Florida, and Miami (Oh.);
Feeling wanted and feeling like a key piece required to help return URI to prominence in the A-10, Estevez said Rhode Island’s persistent pursuit of him helped him finalize a decision.
“They called me every day and texted me every day, I got to develop a great relationship with coach Archie Miller and coach Duane Woodard,” Estevez said.
“Their style of play definitely fit…They checked all of the boxes.”
Estevez showed his ability to commandeer an offense and put his stamp on games with timely scoring this summer. Playing for the Riverside Hawks, he raised his profile on the high major market.
Riverside Hawks coach Karriem Memminger says a natural flair for the end game is what differentiates Estevez, who will prolong his career at The Canterbury School (CT) this season.
“Cam’s a gamer and the bigger the stage, the bigger he plays,” Memminger said.
“He’s definitely a guy that Archie Miller wants to go to war with. He’s part of his first recruiting class at URI. Archie has won before in the A-10. He can play off the ball, he can play on the ball. It doesn’t matter, he’s still effective. It’s just his ability to be a true lead guard, that’s what makes this kid so unique.”

Estevez Elevates to the A-10
By Jared Exler | Sunday, August 28th, 2022
Canterbury School & Riverside Hawks guard Cam Estevez recently committed to Rhode Island.
Estevez began his high school career at Teaneck before transferring to Canterbury this past fall.

He impressed during his first season in NEPSAC Class B. Estevez played an integral role for a Saints team that made it to the Class B Title Game, earning ALL-NEPSAC honors.

His standout high school season carried right onto the AAU circuit with Riverside Hawks. Estevez's stellar play in the Under Armour Association throughout the spring and summer ultimately allowed him to get ten new scholarship offers.

“The first time I saw Cam practice while recruiting him, it was clear he was oozing with ability and potential but just needed some development and refinement,” said former Canterbury head coach Brian Baudinet. "Because of his work ethic and commitment, Cam has taken huge strides.”

“He is still just scratching the surface of his potential. Cam can play either guard spot, plays with good pace, and finishes with both hands. His overall scoring ability is impressive and he also has the potential to be a terrific defender in time.”

“Cam Estevez flew under the radar over the last two years, joining our program with no recognition,” said Riverside Hawks athletic director Danny Colon. He uses that as motivation and became one of the hardest working players in our program, regularly meeting with our coaches to work on his game. Cam is a prime example of hard work and determination.”

“The recruiting process for Cam heightened after April where he established himself as one of the top scorers on the UA Next circuit. This ultimately led to him committing to Rhode Island where I believe he will flourish.”

Estevez becomes the first member of Canterbury’s 2023 class to finalize their college plans.

Hey look, I trust Archie and the other coaches. As long as he plays to his strengths, I’m fine getting someone like that. Just don’t want another Bassy 2.0 that can’t hit a wide open layup lol.

Hey look, I trust Archie and the other coaches. As long as he plays to his strengths, I’m fine getting someone like that. Just don’t want another Bassy 2.0 that can’t hit a wide open layup lol.
It's basically a slightly better version of Bassy. I hope we can do better.
Yeah, that's what his stats look like.

IF AND A BIG IF this kid commits I think Archie sees more value in Cam than all of us see and could possibly bring this kid in as a little placeholder til Cam gets up to speed and have Cam be the future PG of this team like ramster was saying above Hell for all we know he could be a one year rental and could leave next year because he’ll be a senior

My crazy take on this situation because I feel like we should’ve been going after better PGs, and looking at my spreadsheet, other than Noah, Adante (having a lot of upside), and Benjamin we haven’t gone after decent PGs

Fernandes - Rutgers
Benjamin - nothing announced (but I’ve heard he wants to go to NCST cuz of his dad playing there)
Wright - visiting here next week
Robinson - worst out of all the PGs pursuing (his other offers are Central Connecticut St and NC Central 🤮)
Hollman - visiting BYU this weekend
Jones - Austin Peay (seemed like his mind was made up once he was already in the portal)

As long as we don't have to rely heavily on Kotrights offense I think he could be a nice cog in the system.

I mean we essentially need him to be a game managing PG. He could do that. Has some Elite athleticism too.

If we get Pride then we will be totally fine with this guy.

Yeah agree with Dino and others , hoping Cam is the real deal and if we get kotright hoping he fills the backup role of a 10-15 minute guy a better version of Bassy

That is some solid speculation above from Dino. I am not big on relying on freshman PG’s (though there are the few exceptions, like JD) because the A10 is a big jump in speed, skill level for most freshman to adjust to right out of HS. However, I have no idea of the level of confidence Archie might have in Cam’s potential to adjust smoothly his freshman year. He may be one of the few that can make the jump. I am looking forward to finding out. 👍
