No question Archie Miller had a rough first year in Kingston and under that circumstance, certain people are going to jump in and sow doubts. I have no real problem with the comments of Rhody72 who is entitled to his opinion. All of us have a critical side, myself included, but what makes Rhody72 get under the skin of many here is his basic fatalistic view which runs through much of what he offers up. I'm not a big admirer of fatalism as a value, and if you want to reach for an approach that has more dignity associated with it, look no further than the URI seal.... and find hope.

Fatalistic? I'm still optimistically predicting that URI makes the NCAAT in year 4 (2025-26). I'll root for URI to win every game until then and beyond. I'd like to hear your case for dancing any sooner. I'm trying to be realistic.

Look I made a generalization on fatalism and like all accurate generalizations, they do not apply to everything you say nor does it question your support for the Rams. Listen, I'm surprised at how bad we were last year, but it seemed like one of those seasons where everything that could have gone wrong went wrong. Plus, he was already at a disadvantage by being out of the game for a year. So I'm giving him a pass... I agree that this is a massive off-season for Archie. If he has a bunch of misses again, and we have one of the worst rosters in the conference, that's unacceptable.

That was an epic failure. Abou turned out to be way better than them. Shades of Antonio Reynolds-Dean. Huge motor and knack for great positioning grabbing boards, good hands, good foot work. This would be an absolutely huge pickup if possible.

Sure, but it's still a weird look for someone so connected to the university to basically crap on the kid, on his way out. Carey was a very frustrating player to watch at times, but I never got the feeling he was half-assing it out there, and given his injury history, he probably sucked it up and played hurt for us at several points, in mostly losing seasons. There's not really a reason to take a swipe at him on the way out.

I think "epic failure" is overselling it, since the twins were fine for us. They were pretty productive at Arkansas as well, so I put it more on tactics / coaching that they played more out of control at URI. You think Abou would have turned out to be the exact same player with Cox as his head coach? Or stayed through his firing? Cox's teams sucked at the guard position once he lost holdover players like Russell and Dowtin, but he could oddly scout and recruit productive big men.

He was not able to take advantage of any mismatches on the offensive end if that is the case. If he can't drive past a forward can he drive past a guard? He needs some deception in his game. I wish him success but he needs to put the work in to improve and the coaching staff better recruit enough quality starters for next season that he is coming off the bench and earning his playing time.

I don’t necessarily disagree with the ‘out of position’ comment. He played the 4 in a lot of games. I think if he’s matched up against 2s/3s, he can use his strength to make a difference. His role at times reminded me of Stan a few years back when we had a 6’4 guard defending against the other teams PF. With some nice additions to the front court, I could see him doing well this year. Hope he stays.
