Pretty sure Archie isn’t going to tolerate bad shots,
Sure seemed to tolerate em more than I would, going 10+ minutes with zero points and no timeouts.
There’s guys who are gonna play at the next level, and then there’s the kinda bigs we need in kingston.
I don’t ever like our bigs chucking up shots from deep, I don’t even really want em leaving the paint to set screens.

But I guess that’s why I pay his salary and not vice versa.

Hopefully the offense improves some over what they did this year.

Not sure how long I keep coming if there aren’t signs of improvement.
So you’ll stick around as long as our big men don’t take any 3s, don’t set any screens, and live in the paint? Are you aware it’s 2023 and not 1980? The game has changed…
If we continue to have the worst offense in the country, the bigs have the green light to launch 20’ bricks whenever they feel like it, and they keep asking for more money…

However, when they hung around the top of the key too long on too many trips down the floor, setting screens and taking shots, their team offensive rebounding was almost non existent. At least against the better quality teams they faced at the end of the season. That's why they have to be able to rotate and do both.

Jcru, I wasn’t sure where you were going with this. I had to read it a few times.

I don’t mind our big guys shooting 3s if they can shoot it @ a decent % and Arch is a good offensive coach so I support whatever he implements

Generally no, because historically players like that have been few and far between. But it's now becoming more commonplace. Big men are now working on this as part of their game.

I did read what you said.

Archie's strength last year was his ability to hold players accountable for poor decisions and shots. Regarding the big men on our team, who specifically are you referring to?

Rory Stewart struggled at the beginning of the season, this is a common experience for many first-year players. However, he showed significant improvement towards the end, shooting 47% from 3 in his last 10 games and 39% in conference play. We need to encourage him to take more 3-pointers.

Bilau played in 8 games and shot an impressive 50% from 3, but only attempted a total of 6 shots from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, Samb only attempted 1 3-pointer throughout the entire season, and Tchikou did not attempt any. Therefore, the notion that Archie allowed our big men to recklessly take 3-pointers all season is incorrect. The one big man who took a significant number of 3s is a capable shooter.

But....there haven't been any here that can shoot threes have there? Back to previous post....seems reasonable that our bigs should not be shooting threes (or. even worse, "learning to shoot threes") here, should they?

ETA: Except for Rory. That dude should be jacking them up until either the cows come home, or another better 3 point shooter proves himself. I don't consider him a big

Alex would have to sit and already missed most of his first 2 seasons at Alabama.

Maybe with the addition of Brown, Alex became a 4 and the 3 is overcrowded with Weston, Rory, and someone to be determined.

In a zone, no problem. It also depends on the matchups in a man to man/pack line.

If this recruiting cycle goes according to plan, Rory would end up like the 2nd or 3rd man off the bench. A useful role player with a specific skill set.

That's why I embrace ramster's message that we need to get starters, because we already have the role players.

I was just going to write this. In the pack line, he doesn't necessarily have to guard the other team's 3.

It's seriously not the new norm. This is more churn than I expected, but there was always going to be more than average churn this offseason. We were recruiting basically an entire roster last offseason with the promise of playing time. There were always going to be players not satisfied with what they got and not optimistic about what they'd get going forward and looking to leave. This is going to calm way down when Archie has his program in full swing

Nothing against Lou, seemed like he has a good head on his shoulders.

But being realistic, he couldn’t crack our lineup for one reason or another that finished 2nd to last in the conference. And then even after we lost Bilau to injury and bray to the curb he still wasn’t getting minutes on a shallow roster

I’d rather have guys that we know can play now

I don't remember anyone saying he was a regular rotation player from Day 1. He was an early enrollee who was pegged to do a prep year and Archie took him instead of him going prep.

And again people get excited about recruits on every fan message board it's hardly unique to Keaney Blue. Moving on.

I hope not bc that will mean we swung and missed with a lot of guys if we can't find a suitable replacement for a 6th year role player.
