Re: The Men's Basketball Transfer Carousel 2023-24
Saw that too Smarty. That seems to be the trend that will stick from this era...Get old and stay old.
I believe Archie is working against this strategy but it's tough to do in your first year with a patchwork roster.
Getting old and staying old long term has to be done with a mix of it all- developing recruits that stick around and winning in the portal and grad transfer market in offseason. There needs to be some continuity and core that aren't first year players but more imp than continuity is experience.
Very rare to see first year players (except for the most elite recruits) that are making big impacts on good teams.

Kid from Lasalle went in and came back out to Lasalle.
It's always possible.
But not shocked here.

Heard rumblings last week , not surprised. I wouldn’t have minded Ish returning but realistically this is not the end of the world. We need much better talent all around on this team . We need the portal.

Left option to return l.
Ish has extenuating circumstances at home.
I wouldn’t fault him for chasing $$$ if he can get them.
What I also think is very possible is if Archie can attract some talent and Ish can see the possibility of being a decent team that he comes back.

Re: The Men's Basketball Transfer Carousel 2023-24
When do you think Archie will decide to attract talent? It's a crazy NIL/portal world that no one is used to. Part of the appeal of a guy like Archie is being a net positive in the transfer market. He knows people. Has connections. Has some cache. I don't even know how to evaluate this. Ish probably wasn't going to be part of the next good Rhody team so it's really not a huge deal. But, if Archie has decided to build from the ground up, he needs to start pulling in some real four year guys.bigappleram wrote: ↑1 year ago Left option to return l.

But I’d say this is pretty, pretty, bad.

Archie needs three/four year pioneers. Add a couple of portal players, mix, stir constantly, see what gels.Gonebarongone wrote: ↑1 year agoWhen do you think Archie will decide to attract talent? With Ish entering the portal, I would say we are looking for about 7 players, over half the roster, by all means: portal and JUCO and whatever else.

So much for everyone wants to stay here.
Correction: everyone who knows they can't get a better deal elsewhere wants to stay here.

We're the pre-Parcells, 2-14, 1-15 Rod Rust and Dick MacPherson Patriots.
Can only go up from here, have to discard all the old beliefs that are weighing us down and use ruthless recruitment of talent. No more "happy little family" mentality.
Patriots are in receivership, but don't worry, they are getting bought by Robert Kraft weeks after Parcells already took the job.

That's really disappointing about Leggett even though we knew it was a possibility. Giving me bad vibes for some reason. It's a net negative no matter how anyone tries to justify it.
I'm blaming it on Yorke.

Now, is he an A10 starter? No, he is not.
Is he an A10 bench player? Yes.
Is he a low major starter? Probably could be.

IMHO If we had 3 players around Ish Leggett's level including a point guard and solid role players we could compete for a bid. Are you telling me Rhode to Excellence could not take care of Ish? I have thought all along it was key for the coaching staff to retain him. I'm not enjoying the off-season thus far.bigappleram wrote: ↑1 year ago Left option to return l.

He's not all world. He was let go by Seton Hall for a reason.
The portal is good, but sometimes you are just inheriting someone else's problem. We think we can rehab them all, I'd be willing to give Weston one more year to see if he can make a leap.

I think it is worth seeing what Weston could do next year, but by no means the end of the world if he leaves. We kept hearing about guys like Lou Hutchinson and Rory, yet Lou couldn’t even find time on the worst team in the A-10. I’m not sure Archie wants to hang his hat on these guys. Also keep hearing about how good Foumena is, but we haven’t seen him yet. I’ll believe when I see it. I’ll bet Archie is saying maybe I made a mistake coming here. Very disappointing that Ish left

This portapalooza nonsense is ruining the college game for this loyal Rhody fan.part of the fun of the game is watching a student athlete grow and improve over his 4 year career. Talk about something spiraling out of control. Don't have the solution, but it is ruining the sport for this old timer. Maybe time to jump in the fan portal and root for a different team every year.

This has to be the lowest point of Archie's time here. Some of it was caused by him, but most of it he inherited.
He made a lot of wild offseason acquisition moves last year, but 1. just hired, 2. dynamics of player recruitment are changing, and 3. how else do you get this program in the basement, moving forward, without taking risks?

It may be that the mid majors will not be able to compete with the majors when it comes to NIL money. All players want to know how much for them. They don’t care about practice facilities, charters, arenas, etc anymore. Show them the money. What would a $2M yearly NIL pool do for our recruiting?

It's a new ball game. See: pitch clock (which might just be the best thing to ever happen to baseball).
*Just for a fun drill, try to name a player, anywhere, that someone else has ever heard of as a 'good player', that is in his 3rd year with the same team...

I'd play in D1 games at the defunct roller rink in Narragansett and lift weights at Steve's Gym if I was getting the NIL money I thought I deserved.Ramulous wrote: ↑1 year ago It may be that the mid majors will not be able to compete with the majors when it comes to NIL money.
