Re: 2023 Coaching Carousel
Hobbs had a great run at GW until his players tuned out his yelling and screaming. Might be worth a shot.
"Every season, college basketball has one or two teams that rise from dormancy to relevancy, squads that make long-awaited charges at the NCAA Tournament and become really fun storylines along the way."

Re: 2023 Coaching Carousel
Some changing of the guard going on the past few seasons on the familiar names and high seniority coaching levels: Roy Williams, Coach K, JB, Mike Brey (however, he may coach elsewhere possibly), Bob McKillop.
Who’s next?
Who’s next?

Autry is an awful hire for Syracuse. That’s a marquee job and they could have anyone they want. First time HC who presided on the staff as the program got progressively worse. I’d be shocked if he’s successful.

From the article…To put some perspective on NIL and the dollars. This is at a top funded program.
“Nor does Texas Tech lag behind in the emerging world of NIL deals. The Matador Club, a non-profit collective, and Lubbock-based marketing agency Level 13 have extended $25,000 deals to dozens of Red Raiders athletes.”

I feel sorry for his wife. God knows what it'll be like having him around the house all day, with all of his snide sarcasm and whining.

Re: 2023 Coaching Carousel
I thought you would bring him up Reef.
I remember when he did a pretty good job as HC of Nevada.
Which earned him the Georgia position.
But after the worst season ever at Cal and in 4-years going 17-61, not surprising.
He isn't that old so can surface somewhere at a much lower level.
He is from the Midwest so can go back, also take an assistant job.

Someone out of the G-town “family”. So much for state-the-art practice facility and big name coach….

Kimani Young? Luke Murray?
No big name HC’s come to mind for me right now that would be interested.

I could see Pitino, potentially.
I don’t see why CFL Cooley would be interested - especially within the conf.
Brey? Fall back option?

Re: 2023 Coaching Carousel
Cooley? As in Ed? He gets more smoke blown up his ass, by national media, poor kid from the hood story over and over etc. seems like defense is an afterthought for his program. If I was G-Town , I would pass…….he will be at PC until he decides to go……no?

Re: 2023 Coaching Carousel
Not going to happen, but I would reach out to Crean and Turgeon.
Crean had success at Marquette and 3 Sweet 16's at Indiana.
Turgeon was 226-116 at Maryland and a Sweet16, also finished 1st in the B10 in 2020.

Re: 2023 Coaching Carousel
It makes less than zero sense for Cooley to leave PC and go to Georgetown.
I know national media has pushed it the last couple years, but there’s just no reason to there right now.

One good thing about the A10 sucking this season is…don’t hear about A10 HC’s rumored for P6 openings. But then, maybe that isn’t such a good thing after all. No buzz.

Brey is prob a fall back but he’s from Bethesda.
Don’t discount the black coach legacy there and how that could appeal to Ed. Still prob a long shot but not impossible. Competitive people like challenges.

But then PC would hire Pitino and they’d be back in the final four.bigappleram wrote: ↑1 year ago Brey is prob a fall back but he’s from Bethesda.

Re: 2023 Coaching Carousel
John Thompson legacy from years playing at Providence and then Coaching at Georgetown.
Maybe Cooley opts for the challenge? No downside, tremendous upside.
Bob Driscoll now retired.
Imagine Cooley taking the Georgetown job and coming back to play at PC?
Very much a long shot but you never know. Cooley is like the mayor around Providence but if he ever wanted a new challenge this would be it.

Re: 2023 Coaching Carousel
It’s all about whether he would want to endure another rebuild.
The fit is right. It’s a much bigger stage regardless of how poorly they’ve performed over last decade. The ceiling is higher that’s the bottom line. It’s still prob 30/70 but it’s not as clear cut as some may think.

Re: 2023 Coaching Carousel
It’s still Georgetown. The brand dwarfs PC. They play in the nation’s capital. Talent rich DMV. If cbb jobs were ranked do you really think the PC job ranks higher than Gtown? No way man.theblueram wrote: ↑1 year agoThe ceiling is higher? Please expand on this. Re: 2023 Coaching Carousel
From Jeff Borzello daily update:
March 9 updates
Two more high-major jobs opened on Thursday. Here's what we're hearing in the first few hours.
Georgetown: The Hoyas made the difficult move of parting ways with Patrick Ewing on Thursday, and now they'll likely have to move away from the John Thompson coaching tree for the first time in more than 50 years. We expect Georgetown to make a run at Ed Cooley. The Providence head coach developed a relationship with the late Big John over the course of his career, and has done a fantastic job at Providence. Would he leave a place he built into a consistent Big East contender, in an area he's lived his entire life, for the worst team in the league? It's not as far-fetched as it seems. The wild card is Rick Pitino, although he's going to be the top target for St. John's if the Red Storm move on from Mike Anderson. Could the Hoyas try to jump into the mix? Other potential names linked to the job in recent weeks include Penn State's Micah Shrewsberry, NC State's Kevin Keatts, Pitt's Jeff Capel, Yale's James Jones and outgoing Notre Dame coach Mike Brey.

Why? Lots of coaches have anointed their successors. Off the top of my head, Al McGuire, Dean Smith, Dave Gavitt, Bob McKillop and Mike Krzyzewski all did it, as well as the slimy slithering snake Hurley.reef wrote: ↑1 year agoYeah was shocked to see him get that job for surebigappleram wrote: ↑1 year ago Autry is an awful hire for Syracuse.
