No one in the A10 paid for their roster. Please stop with the sky is falling NIL narrative. Rhody has what everyone else in the A10 has in terms of NIL resources.

We are where we are as a league bc the top teams didn’t win enough in OOC.

I’m sure if we need a little NIL money when it comes time to get a certain player some booster will pony up

If you guys say so. Well if not to keep up with, then wouldn’t it be good if we paid more than our direct competitors? There is opportunity here to spend more and be better than traditional competitors. Here’s a chance to differentiate.

Especially when it comes to hoops, Rhody is URI.....and you know that.
By his own words above, he could have used Little Rhody instead of Rhody, thus avoiding any confusion with the real Rhody (the state’s flagship university) and/or any ill will with Rhody fans.
I have no interest in following him. To me, his tweets bring nothing of value to the table.

Yeah NIL is not that big of a deal when it comes to college basketball. The hand wringing is not really necessary especially since we can compete with our peers.bigappleram wrote: ↑1 year agoDo you think the Mountain West or West Coast Conf are buying their teams? Here's why
This is a story about Tennessee's NIL program which is top ten or maybe top five in the country.
Josiah Jordan James who is a former five star and is possibly their best player said this
"James said through events, trading cards, billboards and restaurant deals, he is able to bring in more than $50,000 a year."
That's all. That's what a top ten program that has every resource in the country is getting a star basketball player. Unless it's a blueblood the money is not astronomical.
Say Ish transfers to Tennessee what is he getting? He won't get no 50k and if he does it would take a year and he'd have to become on of their better players. It's only schools like UT that could give a deal like that and is Ish even good enough for that? Probably not.
It's not the glits and glamor like it is with football. And heck there are plenty of football players on P5 SEC schools that hardly get shit
So yeah the gap really isn't that big.
There should be an NIL collective we can all donate to though. Even if it's just 5 dollars a month we could all pitch in towards a collective.

Re: The Men's Basketball Transfer Carousel 2023-24
Here is a player that we may want to take a look at, Evan Taylor
I have actually seen him play several times, since I live close to Lehigh.
He is a great shooter and high basketball IQ, also an honors' student.
Good size at CG/wing at 6'6", and would be an immediate impact player.
Averaged 14.2 pts (43% 3PT, 80% FT), and 6.5 rebs.
Had 20 pts against Syracuse (4-5 3PT) and 18 pts against Wisconsin (7-10 FG), this season.

I honestly think there is room to bring in a couple of players like this one. It really depends on how aggressive Archie wants to go with the roster turnover.

He's good! Watched him when Fordham played VMI and he looked like the best player on the court so there's no doubt his game transfers to this league. I remember his whole family, like 20 people showed up to that game too so they'd probably be very pleased to see him here.

So let's bring back some of those freshman so we can reap the reward of their growing pains and pair them with some impact transfers! Let Connor and Cam play if they earn it not out of necessity.

Oh sure there's definitely better out there, but he might be better than you think.steveystuds06 wrote: ↑1 year agoMy point is I don’t think Conway is much of a difference maker . Rather land a better player if it’s only for one year
17 points 13 rebounds against Richmond
15 points 6 rebounds against Davidson
17 points 8 rebounds against Fordham
Looks like he'd be able to make a pretty big impact at the A-10 level. At the very least he is far better than any wing player we had this year.
He wouldn't be my top choice, but he'd still be a significant net gain.
If he is the floor for the level of transfer we are about to land then that's a good sign

I might shed a tear basketball players that can make jumpshots ya'll. What a privilege it would be to experience such ecstasy

I would be shocked if the Brown grad chose URI.
That being said, the rest of these names:
Timberlake
Taylor
Conway
I would be happy with two of them, or two like them. Cherry pick the best seniors turned grad players from the surrounding area. Precisely what Tammi Reiss does with her team. They have one year, can shoot, are leaders, are good academically. I don't see the downside with a pair of these.

Re: The Men's Basketball Transfer Carousel 2023-24
URi is a program that, since I can remember going back to Al Skinner circa 1989, needs to find diamonds in the rough. All our best players: Wheeler, Mobley, Murphy, Colson, Abdul Fox, Andre Samuel, Carlos Cofield, Antonio Reynolds-Dean, even some guys from the modern era like Cyril, you name it, starting from that era, were people who slipped under the radar. Harrick and Hurley provided a few exceptions to the rule. URI is going to need a mixture of both, with the ramping up of internet recruiting, the competition for transfers, NILs, there are a lot less players who fly under the radar these days.
These players listed here, represent some of those players to my eye. Timberlake goes to Towson. Taylor goes to Lehigh. Conway to VMI. Wilcox to St. Francis. And at those schools, they excel individually. And it's not lost on some P5 schools either, trying to add one to their roster.
If URI can grab two players like this, or someone not even listed yet like this. Then I can't see how they are going to do worse, than more than half our roster did this year. This was a bottom feeder team. If you don't turn this roster over, it's going to be a bottom feeder team again next year, and spare me the surprise when that happens.
Look at Malik. Look at Jalen. and yes, look at Brandan. You watch these grad players playing against schools from our own Conference who beat us this year, you can't mean to tell me this isn't an upgrade. In poise, in skill, in cohesion, in scoring. In team building.

Weston is not on his level yet or Wilcox. And they're both way better offensive players than Malik was, so an improved Weston plus one of them would be a pretty big upgrade.

Re: The Men's Basketball Transfer Carousel 2023-24
Eh maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think he would make a big impact in the A10.
Yes, he can get hot, but he's a little one-dimensional. He had a big role on a bad team. He can get red hot. He can also get cold. For example, he shot 23% from 3 and avg 6 PPG in his final 9 games. I'm all for landing any shooter, but I want Archie to land a legitimate difference-maker if he's going to bring on a one-year player.
I'm still in the mindset that this team needs to develop. Wins would be great, but I don't think this team is going anywhere next season. I want to see progress and have some young pieces to be excited about. I want Weston to be our starting wing. I think he has a lot more upside than a player like Conway. A confident stronger Weston with an offense more designed for him will do wonders. He just never seemed to be involved enough this year.
I agree with others here that we can't rely on freshmen. Especially early on. I hope we can do better than Conway if we do a one-year rental.

VMI was horrible, and not sure what happened to Conway the end of the season.
His minutes and production really tapered off.
Wilcox, I doubt will move the needle for us.
If we take a grad transfer, I would like more.
Did we even offer them, probably just reached out?
