A10 All Conference TBA Tuesday

Unread post by ramster »

Typically A10 All Conference gets released on the Tuesday of the Conference Tournament
Possible it gets released today on Monday due to opening round games being moved from Wednesday to Tuesday with the addition of Loyola and making Friday an open, rest day for all remaining teams

At any rate this thread is for listing the release and for discussion regarding selections.

I believe Leggett makes at least 3rd team. The A10 selects 6 players per 1st, 2nd and 3rd teams - Total of 18 players.

In addition A10 select single teams consisting of 5 players per team for All Defensive, All Academic and All Rookie Teams.

Ishmael Leggett has solid credentials
  • 7th Scoring
  • 15th Rebounding
  • 6th FT Percentage
  • 9th Steals
  • Team leader, excellent defensively, much improved
  • Cayman Classic All Tournament Team

Yeah, he should get something. The people who pick this stuff for the A-10 can be weird so, hope for the best, plan for the worst

Most of the social media A10 pundits had him on 2nd or 3rd team in their unofficial ballots. No other Rhody players obviously.

I think 2nd team would be fair for Ish this year. Continued improvement and maybe he's in the POY conversation next year.

I can’t see 2nd team just because of our record.

3rd team definitely a possibility, but I won’t call it a snub if he doesn’t make it. We were garbage this year and voters may/probably will take team record into account.

And it wouldn’t be a snub.

We were too bad this year to complain about Ish not making a team if that’s the case.

The biggest all conference snub of all time has to be Yuta Watanabe getting DPOY over Stan.

18 will be named to an All Conference Team - 3 teams of 6
I think Leggett continues to some degree to get underestimated by some URI fans and fans overall. Leggett is one of the premier players in the A10 and P5 Teams would heavily recruit him if available.

I'd expect minimum 3rd team and a good possibility of 2nd team. He could be 1st team if our team was among the top 4 byes.

Can't imagine he gets overlooked. I'd be shocked. He is too good. Opposing teams and coaches know how good Leggett is.

Leggett highlights:
  • 7th in points = 16.9 points per game
  • 15th in rebounds = 5.8 rebounds per game
  • 6th in FT% = 84.3%. He hit 145-172. The 145 makes we're the most of any player in the Top 25
  • 9th in steals = 1.5 steals per game
  • Outstanding effort and attitude. Always gives 100%
  • Leads by example. A natural leader.

Do I think Ish should be 3rd team? Yep.

However, it wouldn't surprise me to know that the A-10 committee picking these has some sort of rule that they only pick players from the top 9 or 10 teams in the Conference. So, I'm expecting the snub.

Just to double down on that logic...

If URI were the 5th place team in the Conference, and Ish was(is) the best player on the team, they would easily give him 2nd team All A-10.

Best player on the second to last placed team? Big ole goose egg.

There is a numbers game involved here, there are only 18 slots for 18 players, and after the way they gave Toure on the Women's team, 1st Team All A-10 because she was on the 2nd best team in the Conference? Pretty much spells out what is going on here.

Nah fuck that. It’s precisely because of that year that the A10 can shove their “the team isn’t good so they don’t get awards” talk. I said the same when Xavier Munford was snubbed.

But then had one of the best A10 teams in the past decade and we had less accolades than any.

Terrell should’ve been POY. Stan DPOY. More players on top teams.

Ish deserves to be recognized for this year.

Ok.

He was literally quoted saying “he wasn’t all conference” so apparently we should ignore what Archie said and listen to you.

Also, I don’t know if you realize that All A10 teams only take into account conference performance, so you putting his Cayman Island accomplishment, his total FTs, and his total rebound average is irrelevant to the team selections.

Equity.

URI is the old, white, 80 year old, Santa Claus looking man with the ZZ top beard, only white.

The only way we get respect is if we tear this Conference from one end to the other.

There is no conspiracy against URI from the A10.

Besides the HC/member schools vote on these all-conference selections.

Ace was the best player on the best team in the conference.
He led the team in scoring, assists, and steals.
Also was the top defensive player in the league.
So, I can understand what the coaches were thinking.
They were pre-season picked 3rd and finished ahead of both Dayton and SLU.

Seems like they always award POY to a guy on the best team.

Like in 2017-18 when Rhody steamrolled the conference, the POY was... wait never mind.

If Ish leaves, it will have nothing to do with the A10 awards.

It should not surprise anyone that the 14th place team was shut out in the annual all league awards.

I would even appear with the 15th place team Loyola having someone named to the all rookie team, URI is the only member of the 15 school league to have no representation at all for any award. Could not even snag an academic award.

Loyer and Mennenga from Davidson are both deserving.
Yann Farrell from SBU okay with All-Rookie Team.
You can make a case for Ish over Banks for 3rd Team, but really not worth getting worked up over.

I am much more concerned about our team for next season and expect a big jump.

I’m happy for Brendan Adams. He worked hard, always represented himself and his family well, and put together a nice college career. He’s also ending his eligibility with two degrees, a bachelor’s degree he earned in three years at UConn and a master’s.

Besides maybe player of the year, a teams record should have nothing to do with who makes the all conference teams. Ish was, objectively by all the statistics we collect and reference, better than guys who were selected over him.

I dare someone to find me another conference who’s #7 scorer was not on any of the THREE all conference teams

Maybe you can dismiss all of us jabronis who think Ish should have been at least 3rd team. What about this guy?

The URI Sports Information Dept was able to take it easy this morning. No need to do any press releases or tweets.
