Heard that Lamar made a surprise Ryan Center visit this week ? He met with Archie and addressed the team , telling them amongst other things that playing defense wins games at the college level !
Must have been quite a thrill for our players and always a good thing when a former player gives back esp. a Lamar Odom !

Re: 12/4 | Providence College | 5:00PM (ESPNU)
I've knocked a lot of game presentation items in the past, so let me give a shout out when I think it's due. Having a former player when you have one in the building leading the Rhody chant is EXACTLY the type of thing we should be doing in our game presentation. It takes things that other teams do (Seattle person raising the 12th man flag before a Seahawks game to get the crowd pumped up for instance), puts our spin on it, and makes it ours instead of just a copy of what someone else does.
That approach should be taken throughout our game presentation so going to one of our games is unique. Like why copy Mr. Brightside as a singalong, find out what the student section would be interested in that's not done by another team already. Why copy the train horn the Bruins and Patriots use when they score when our football team scores, use the fog horn form Pt. Judith or Beavertail? It goes on and on. You don't need to reinvent the wheel, but make the wheel our own

Well, you could say the pricing was good if we get a virtual sellout with these prices in a rebuild year. I would say it was bad pricing if there are hundreds of open seats.
A sell out way early before the game with lower prices wouldn’t bring the much needed revenue.

When I got the offers to buy 4 more seats (being a season ticket holder) then I looked at the ticket prices plus the handling fee I knew right away - nope. I’ll be able to buy them much cheaper on StubHub on game day.
Nothing to be embarrassed about as a URI Fan
Simple economics: Supply vs Demand
Supply is staying high because the prices are so high
Now have to cut the prices to fill those seats
But how would I feel if I bought the 4 seats then find out I they cut them on game day? Lesson learned

Disagree wholeheartedly.. we are a university with a journalism and comms school, let kids get working experience to put them in best position to build a career. Having students announce online only basketball games is a no brainer.PeterRamTime wrote: ↑1 year agoEhh that's certainly relativeRhode_Island_Red wrote: ↑1 year agoESPN's "professional" announcers suck out loud, too.PeterRamTime wrote: ↑1 year ago

Having to work tonight, I looked at the ESPNU lineup to record the game on Xfinity, and it stated "Teams TBA". So much for exposure beyond our borders.

I’m not too worried about the empty seats. It’s a rebuilding year, they lost to Quinnipiac and Texas St back to back. Maybe students will fill those extra seats if no one buys them since it’s still a big deal to go to this game for them.

If you were in attendance last February seeing 1500 or less actual bodies in seats for some games (when announced attendance would be 4000+) you could feel the waning interest in MBB. It was miserable.Taylor Swift wrote: ↑1 year agoATPTourFan wrote: ↑1 year ago Well, you could say the pricing was good if we get a virtual sellout with these prices in a rebuild year. A 4 star or 5 star rated freshman or transfer would help build excitement. Equivalent to EC Mathews, Hassan Martin, Kuran Iverson, Stanford Robinson, Jeff Dowtin, Cyril Langevine, Tyrese Martin, Jacob Toppin, Fatts Russell - this will come this recruiting cycle with this new Coaching Staff. That will generate excitement and optimism.

I would have thought when the five game packages did not sell well the athletic department would have got the hint. This year they have raised the season ticket prices, also raised the concession prices while not bringing back some of the vendors with the better food choices. I think the athletic department should try to build a fan base before soaking them for every dollar they can get. I'm a season ticket holder and expect to have better seats next season the way that things are trending. If the building is not full today it will be a failure in my eyes.Billyboy78 wrote: ↑1 year ago Each time I look, more and more seats open up. Not even close to a sellout. Exactly. I think the only game I can remember is the 2003 game where it was practically a blizzard. My roommate and I walked over from Hopkins -- it might have been still snowing even before tipoff if I remember correctly.Billyboy78 wrote: ↑1 year ago Each time I look, more and more seats open up. Unfortunately, I will not be making the game tonight. I've been having health issues for the last few months and was in the hospital Thursday night; still waiting for a surgical date and to find out actually what is going on. If I tried to go it would be kinda too overwhelming for walking/crowds/standing. I have a ton of FOMO for not going but I'll be watching from my cozy couch looking at my tree at least.
Have fun everyone!

Reef, some good comments by Tim Welsh in the video about game strategy against Rhody.
I wonder if the the Friaaaaz will take that approach on D? Seems likely. If they do, it would be great to see the freshman Hutch and Rory nail some open 3’s to swing a close game to us. I would thoroughly enjoy that scenario!
Personally, I don’t know if Arch will play both freshman extended minutes today or not. It’s a big spot to be in early in their first season of cbb. We will see.

You could run five five-star recruits or five no-name walk-ons out there and it wouldn't make a difference. The only thing that will make a difference is winning. Win and the world wins with you, lose and you lose alone.ramster wrote: ↑1 year agoIf you were in attendance last February seeing 1500 or less actual bodies in seats for some games (when announced attendance would be 4000+) you could feel the waning interest in MBB.
