It appears Kenny Johnson had the scout today. In game one the radio said Austin had the scout and he did the ESPN+ interview going into the half. Today Kenny gave the interview

Can confirm that McDonald mentioned midway through the second half that it was Kenny.

Is it cyclical? If so Austin had the KState scout, although it did look like Woodward was loud and demonstrative on the bench vs KState so not sure.

Without knowing I think it was Kenny - he was most active on the bench.

I think it was Woodward for today, they had a looooong film session last night.
If you say you’re a Rhody fan, I know you are my brother. For you have suffered as I have suffered.

I was thinking it might be cyclical too. If I have time before turkey tomorrow morning I'll see if I can find a replay and see if they mention it

Great question. Honest answer is I have no idea. That's why I've been wanting to track this for a while, I'm curious if there's something there or not

I think quite a bit. Especially if the scout has direct inputs to the offense and defense game plans. Being able to recognize opponents trends, weaknesses, and strengths, and communicate effectively from the bench those trends potentially developing. I guess there is a wealth of resources out there for studying the opponent. Most importantly of what value does the HC place on the scouting reports. I suppose some HC’s are of the mind set, we play our game on both ends and adjust accordingly on the fly.

Excellent stuff above, 105.

I would think some asst. coaches (particularly the more experienced) are better at it than others. More detailed, insightful, etc.

I think it’s great that KB tracks it.

If it was important and one assistant excelled at scouting, it would not be assigned on a rotating basis. Also, if one assistant was inept at scouting, he would not be assigned this duty particularly against a competitive opponent. I believe that scouting/evaluating an opponent is something any competent assistant can do so this is how Archie shares the responsibility.

Good point. But then maybe Arch doesn’t want one coach carrying that responsibility.

That said, it is important regardless of your or my unprofessional opinions.

Also, I don’t appreciate your backhanded negative shots at the program or the staff.

Carry on.

Especially with 3 games in 3 days, one assistant is not going to be studying film of all of these tourney teams. It has to be split up.

Agree, I think it’s important to spilt those up , our assistants are well qualified and I’m sure most programs probably do the same thing

Reef, I heard through the grapevine that Kenny is so good at the X’s and O’s that Ed Cooley asked Kenny if he could help the Friars with their scout of Rhody.

Evidently, the PC coaching staff isn’t good at multitasking with having two games on a short turnaround.

Christen Cunningham, Director of Player Development, gave the halftime interview so either that's not a reliable indicator of who has the scout like I thought or not just assistants are giving the scout for the team
