Word does get out about coaching issues.......
Cox's rep as a recruiter may be taking a hit.
We do have Chance committed and expected to sign in Nov.
We only have 1 open scholarship currently available, so I am not overly concerned.
Also the transfer portal continues to play a big role in building a roster.
At this point, I am still confident in Cox's ability to recruit.
We don’t have any scholarships or spots to sell the next 2 years since players were given an additional year. The expectation is that other than Shep and El-Amin, the team as constructed will be here for another 2 seasons. The staff is focused on filling up those guards spots. They got a early commitment from a big time shooter (Chance) who stock was starting to rise, and they are looking for another big 1/2 guard who can shoot (Prather). Other than that, the staff has plenty of time to make inroads with 23’ and 24’ kids, and Im pretty sure they have….you all think because Twitter didn’t say so, that the staff is just sitting on their hands, huh? …so naive.
It’s crazy how some folks are so entitled and short sighted they forget to to think before they type.

Just as an FYI, since this thread hasn't been updated in a month - Verbal Commits hasn't had any updates on URI in that time frame. With Chance Stephens already committed, I think they only have one spot to fill (El-Amin), assuming no other turnover.

Unless there is a recruit they are still high on, then take him.
Signing period 4/13 - 5/18 (2022).
There is always a good chance we may end up losing players to the portal, opening up more scholarship space.

Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
It would kind of surprise me if we retained everyone on the current roster - It's normal to shed a player or two, because they want to play at a lower level, for example. It's frustrating when we have 5+ players transferring or graduating at once, but the "normal" churn of 2 to 4 players per year is a good thing.

Martin and Walker both will graduate and have the additional year, so who knows.
AB will probably come back because of his medical RS.
Not sure if the seldom used young guys decide to move on.

So, unless some more information comes out, I'm kind of assuming this is fake. The only picture of him is dunking on what looks to be an adjustable rim hoop, absolutely nothing comes up for him on Google, and said picture is a retweet from an earlier photo in mid-November. His very first tweet is a RT of this one, so I'm guessing he might be a middle or high school student in the Boston area, idk. Maybe someone else can find a proper bio for him.LoveThoseRams wrote: ↑2 years agoHe posted it on his twitter account. @EliteKintehSGreenwell wrote: ↑2 years agoCan you provide a link? A colleague called me yesterday asking how a High School player from France (her nephew) can get a look by URI. Apparently the kid is shooting lights out as a Junior in High School, and wants to come to RI for college to be near family.
Any insight?

I would send an email to the URI Coaching Staff as a first step.
Does he only want URI or would he be interested in other RI Schools such as Bryant, RIC, J&W, etc?

I don't expect we will land anybody very good, until Cox is either extended or we get a new coach.
Why would a recruit commit now, when Cox could be gone after this season?

This is the email for the head assistant coach for WBB. I think he would be a good place to start and to ask for advice. He is from Paris France. For sure he has a lot of connections in France and in the US. He could provide some good insight.
You could also go to a URI game an hour early and try to catch him before the game, or after the game just to introduce yourself. URI staff is all very nice and helpful.
URI WBB has many international players on the roster:
5-France
1-Israel
1-Portugal
1-Latfia
1-Canada

Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
Sharavjamts is one of 5 players in this article about players who have improved their ranking. He is now #100 in ESPN Top 100 for 2022
Good news for Dayton combining 2022 Sharavjamts with this year's 2021 Freshmen DeRon Holmes and Malachi Smith who are playing key roles in Dayton's Starting Line Up
SF Mike Sharavjamts
International Sports Academy (OH)
New 2022 ESPN 100 ranking: 100
Previous 2022 ESPN 100 ranking: unranked
Committed to: Dayton
Sharavjamts first appeared on our radar this summer when playing alongside more high-profile prospects like Reed Sheppard and Gabe Cupps on a Midwest Basketball Club that was one of the most collectively skilled and unselfish teams of the summer. This winter though, he has been more of a focal point for ISA and demonstrated a very rare combination of size and passing ability. Simply put, his feel for the game is absolutely off the charts.
Whether he's operating as a big point guard of sorts or playing off the ball, his floor vision and basketball instincts are obvious. As he continues to build up his body, his game is only going to continue to emerge. Projecting out a couple of years, as part of a young and talented Dayton core, he could become a star in the Atlantic 10.https://www.espn.com/mens-college-baske ... s-profiles

I don't see why Berry would stay. Stuck on the end of the bench for 2 years on a mediocre team.

Yup, would make sense he’s gone.
Graduating two guards, Betrand is back next year and Chance will be here. Not to mention anyone coming in via the portal.
Obviously this is all ignoring what could be major roster turnover if/when Cox is fired

I like that a healthy portion of our focus being on recruiting foreigners. It’s a big world out there and foreign players have really upped their game since my playing days back in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s.
