Re: 2022-23 Schedule (top post is current)
Our toughest OOC game most likely will be Seton Hall.
Most insiders have them predicted top 5 BE and getting an NCAAT bid.
From Rothstein:
5. Seton Hall
Projected Starting 5:
G Kadary Richmond
G Al-Amir Dawes
F Tray Jackson
F Alexis Yetna
C Tyrese Samuel
Projected Bench: Jamir Harris, Femi Odukale, Jaquan Sanders, Jaquan Harris, Dre Davis, Tae Davis, KC Ndefo, Abdou Ndiaye
Key Losses: Bryce Aiken, Myles Cale, Ikey Obiagu, Jared Rhoden
Key Newcomers: Jaquan Sanders, Jaquan Harris, Femi Odukale (Pitt), Al-Amir Dawes (Clemson), Dre Davis (Louisville), Tae Davis, KC Ndefo (St. Peter’s), Abdou Ndiaye (Illinois State)
They look to be loaded, with lots of quality depth.
Look at the players not listed as starters:
Femi- Starter at Pitt, and averaged 11 pts/3.4 assists (21-22)
Dre Davis - Started 23 games at Louisville averaged 7.4 pts.
K.C. Ndefo - Maybe the best player at St. Peter's, averaged 10.5 pts/6 rebs/ and one of the nation's top shot blockers (almost 3/ game)
Jamir Harris- Last year averaged 23 minutes and about 8 pts.

Maybe you softened a little.
Unfortunately for them they did lose a lot: Watson, Durham, Horchler, Minaya, and Reeves.
But they did add several nice transfers that will probably be immediate impact players, mentioned in the link above.
In addition, they also have some good freshman recruits.
Also, the BE is extremely strong and deep this season and I wouldn't be surprised if they get more than 6 teams in the NCAAT.
At best, I see PC as a bubble team.

But I like the article by The Woonsocket Call whereby Cooley reviews with a snipit about each player at this point in time - mid summer.
You can almost read into Cooley’s comments as to who he expects his top performers to be at this point in time.
Would be interesting to hear about our 14 players at the end of Summer Practices knowing we have so many new faces.

Army and Quinnipiac are likely two of the Ryan Center buy games.
Surprisingly for a school so close by and so old, URI has played Army just once in men's basketball. Rhody lost 99-74 to the Black Knights in the only meeting way back in 1955.

Their OOC schedule is 100% complete and they are announcing the full slate of games with dates and opponents. URI typically does the same when its schedule is all finalized. The fact that Rhody hasn't done so yet probably means it is not yet fully completed.

I also wouldn't mind a game on a neutral site similar to the Charleston game last season in DC which was canceled due to Covid.

Interesting question, are you better off scheduling a home and home or two now, or wait until next season? If you defer until next season you should be able to schedule better match ups than you will now, however it leaves a lot of scheduling work to be done

I don't see any reason to do that. It probably won't bring in the revenue of a home game or getting bought and it's not like we need it to help a resume

This 2022-23 season will see several OOC multi game series coming to end:
BC
Seton Hall
Ga State
Milwaukee
Right now the only sure OOC games for 2023-24 would appear to be PC and Brown. Would be good to get some more games locked in far in advance for that season so we do not end up being desperate.

In Philly this season (Foxboro in 2023). Would therefore not expect much visitor representation for the Army basketball game at the Ryan Center.

As of April-2022, the target open date for the new GSU convocation center is August-2022. The Panthers should have several home games there under their belt when Rhody comes to visit Sunday December 18th. It appears that GSU will have already started their semester break just days earlier.

Re: 2022-23 Schedule (top post is current)
This was in the "It's Miller Time - Introductory Press Conference Monday, March 21 at 10:30 a.m." thread where there was some discussion of the Archie Miller interview on WPRO on 07/26/2022.
It would appear that two OOC games are still not publicly known. Rhody can play 13 OOC games and so far it seems that five home games, three road games, and three neutral site tourney games are set and generally known. I would think at least one would be at home as the last several seasons have had six RC OOC games and there have been rumblings since the Miller hiring about having even more in the coming seasons. I suppose URI could go out west to face either New Mexico or St Mary's with a return game the following season. With several series coming to an end this year, there are no OOC home opponents yet set for 2023-24 so it may make sense to lock something in. If a series with a western team comes about, Thorr and Archie better get an good contract with high safeguards so there is not another Nevada situation.
theblueram wrote: ↑1 year ago Good interview. Archie talked about scheduling difficulties and mentioned going out to New Mexico and St Mary's as possibilities.

Re: 2022-23 Schedule (top post is current)
It has become the norm for Mohegan Sun tournament organizers to have URI and PC play there as often as possible to help drive up attendance. The UConn men for some reason do not want to play there and the two teams from RI routinely are the other schools that make up the three biggest drawing programs in New England. Teams however can only participate in the same exempt tournament once every four years and both the Rams and Friars consequently seem to be in four year Uncasville HOF rotations. PC plays it this upcoming season. Rhody played in the HOF at Mohegan in 2012, 2016, and was scheduled to do so in 2020. Rhody however was a last minute switch from the 2020 HOF Tournament to the 2K Empire Classic at Mohegan due to Covid dropouts. The normally NYC based 2K Empire Classic had moved its event to the casino that one year as it provided a bubble environment to combat the epidemic. That likely means it is now free to play the HOF any time since its last official participation was back in 2016.

Re: 2022-23 Schedule (top post is current)
One scheduling tactic that may prove useful in attracting P5 teams to agree to a home-home series with URI is to play the URI "home" game at a neutral site like Mohegan Sun. That was the case in the '09/'10 series with Oklahoma State and the '19/'20 series with West Virginia. Yes, it's better to get a true home & home as we did in past years with the likes of Nebraska, Alabama, Utah, SMU, Houston, but using Mohegan Sun as an option would help beef up the NC schedule.RF1 wrote: ↑1 year ago It has become the norm for Mohegan Sun tournament organizers to have URI and PC play there as often as possible to help drive up attendance. Re: 2022-23 Schedule (top post is current)
Not to split hairs, but I'm pretty sure the "home/home" vs. Okla state was really neutral and neutral. Our game at Okla St was part of their All College Classic tournament and was considered neutral like our game at Mohegan was. Depending on where I look on line that game was either in Stillwater or Oklahoma City.Obadiah wrote: ↑1 year agoOne scheduling tactic that may prove useful in attracting P5 teams to agree to a home-home series with URI is to play the URI "home" game at a neutral site like Mohegan Sun. But that's sort of beside the point. I'm very much open to doing a home/neutral like against a West Va or any of the upper tier P5s. Of course we should try to fight for a home and home, but don't cut off your nose to spite your face.

It's likely that contracted home games against Penn State and Rhode Island (both the back ends of home-and-homes from the 2020-21 season) get pushed off into the future.

Disappointing and I probably would have attended the game.
This most likely would have been our toughest OOC game.
On a positive note, next season with the roster and staff having a full year under their belt, we would have a much better chance of getting a win.

Re: 2022-23 Schedule (top post is current)
I am not pleased with this Seton Hall development. Rhody looks to have got hosed big time in this series. First, its Ryan Center home game happened during the 2020-21 season when no one was allowed to attend because of Covid restrictions. Now it appears that Seton Hall for the SECOND straight year cannot find schedule room to host Rhody. Developments like this further hamper URI's own scheduling as it likely has initially approached the past two years anticipating a trip to the Pirates. In the end, it has had to alter plans at a later point when other options are more limited.

Eh, it's hard to take that stance when we had no problem pushing out games at Harvard and Florida Gulf Coast. It's not ideal, but it's not a screwing like the Nevada situation. Also, if true, we don't know when the school was informed. Could have been fairly early in the process

I'd rather play Seton Hall next season when this team is hopefully fighting for an NIT or NCAA bid. This season will have plenty of growing pains, and Seton Hall likely kills us. It does kinda suck, though, as I was hoping to go to that game. We'll see what happens.

Increases the probability of getting a P5 home and homeObadiah wrote: ↑1 year agoOne scheduling tactic that may prove useful in attracting P5 teams to agree to a home-home series with URI is to play the URI "home" game at a neutral site like Mohegan Sun.
We play Georgia State in their new 8000 seat Arena this Dec 18th. GSU recently agreed to play P5 Auburn in a 2 for 1. This is another option for URI to land a P5 opponent - opt for a 2 for 1. GSU also has a home-home with P5 Georgia Tech. 7 of 9 GSU OOC Games are Home Games at this time.
Interesting too is GSU is hosing their own MTE and all games are pre-arranged. Each team plays all 3 of the other teams in the MTE.
Home Georgia Tech - Nov 12th
Home Eastern Kentucky - Nov 18th - Georgia State hosted MTE
Home Texas A&M - Commerce - Nov 19th - Georgia State hosted MTE
Home UNC Asheville - Nov 20th - Georgia State hosted MTE
Home Belmont - Nov 27th
Away Northeastern Dec 4
Home Wofford - Dec 10th
Away Auburn - Dec 14th - recently agreed to 2 for 1 series
Home Rhode Island - Dec 18th
riday–Sunday, November 18–20: Atlanta
Georgia State MTE:
Friday, Nov. 18: Eastern Kentucky (ASUN) at Georgia State (Sun Belt); UNC Asheville (Big South) vs. Texas A&M-Commerce (Southland, reclassifying)
Saturday, Nov. 19: Texas A&M-Commerce at Georgia State; UNC Asheville vs. Eastern Kentucky
Sunday, Nov. 20: Texas A&M-Commerce vs. Eastern Kentucky: UNC Asheville at Georgia State

Is there a clause in the contract that says this game cannot be pushed a certain number of times? Who says SH won't push it until its cancelled?

Typically there is a financial penalty in series contracts if a game is not played. I would further think Seton Hall would not want to cancel a return home game which would cost it nothing.Rhodymob05 wrote: ↑1 year ago Is there a clause in the contract that says this game cannot be pushed a certain number of times? St. Mary's appears to be off the table.RF1 wrote: ↑1 year ago This was in the "It's Miller Time - Introductory Press Conference Monday, March 21 at 10:30 a.m." thread where there was some discussion of the Archie Miller interview on WPRO on 07/26/2022.

My guess is he was just using that as an example saying he’d go out that far to play a game with those teams. New Mexico also released their non conference schedule a few weeks ago.SmartyBarrett wrote: ↑1 year agoSt.

I like your optimism, but they will probably be heavily favored at home against us.
They return their top 3 scorers and 4 starters from last season.
7-footer Quinten Post will be a handful for us along with the Langford brothers.
They also had a strong recruiting class.
Time will tell if Earl Grant will have any success there.
Last season they did win their first 2 ACCT games and only lost by 2 points to Miami in the 3rd round.
