The Dunkin Donuts naming rights to the arena (DDC and previously PCC) in downtown Providence came to an end on June 30th. The RI Convention Center Authority has been attempting for some time to sell the naming rights. It appears that Dunkin Donuts, after a some 20 year run, is not interested in renewing. The Journal has had several stories regarding the naming rights process being dragged out. An article today indicated that the arena will retain the Dunkin Donuts name through the summer and then be rebranded. I was walking though the mall/Omni Hotel/RICC/DDC today and came across a group that was recording an inventory listing of all the signage with the DDC logo. They were even taking note of signage on trash receptacles in the DDC lobby. It would seem the staff is making preparations for the new name.
PC promoter and Friars game broadcaster John Rooke has tweeted that he heard Coca Cola may be involved with the rights. Naming rights are typically associated with local concerns. Coca Cola is more of a national brand. If it were to be a local brand, I have thought about a few possible names:
Big Blue Bug Solutions Arena
Rob Levine Heavy Hitter Center
D'Oliveira & Associates Hurtline Arena
Hasbro Mr Potato Head Coliseum
Anyone heard anything on this topic?
'The Dunk' in Providence is keeping its name ... but probably not for long

It appears that Amica, the insurance company now based in Lincoln, will be purchasing the naming rights. In a move that may be related to this, the company recently got a trademark for AMICA Mutual Pavilion.

Acme Metal Roofs Center.
How can this Dunk after being completely remodeled 14 years ago need a new roof, which I believe has already received funding from the State of over $8 million? To quote a Projo Article when the Dunk was refurbished 'Not one surface of the old building hasn't been touched and fixed over. '
Except for the roof, I guess.
