If he gets this kid Umass is murdering us and I don't give a shit if we don't play a game anytime soon. This kid is the top recruit in the entire country.

THIS WOULD SUCK!!

I think he'll go to UNC though.
So what, UMass would beat us twice next season instead of once like this season.

He'd be one and done, and the national spotlight would be on the A10 and UMass.

This would be TREMENDOUS to have the #1 recruit in the country come to the A10.

We always talk about wanting A10 teams to keep their kids and be good, but don't want that for UMass?

How does that make sense?

You want one of our biggest rivals to land the #1 recruit in the country? I know people have questioned if you're a legit Rhody fan on here, and i"ve never doubted that until now. Their fanbase is the worst, and I want them to lose every game.

yeah, to me, that would be like when Calipari was at UMass, someone here saying: "Oh, boy, I hope they get Marcus Camby, the number one recruit in the country would be great for the A-10"

As they proceed to destroy us the next four years and go number one in the country with an asterisk. Honestly I could care less about the health of the A-10. I want URI to destroy everyone and top the A-10.

...UMass has a fanbase?

They've been irrelevant for years, with their attendance in the shitter.

Wouldn't mind at all if they brought national attention to the conference for one year.

Also, getting the #1 recruit in America does not equal success.

Ben Simmons and LSU - missed the tourney
Markelle Fultz and Washington - missed the tourney
Anthony Edwards and Georgia - missed the tourney

People here want PC to be good (I want them 0-31 every year) and they're our biggest rivals. And when those people say they want PC good, nobody here calls those posters anti Rhody fans.

But the second I say I want our biggest conference rival to get a stud recruit to bring eyeballs to the A10 and a little juice to our games with them, all of a sudden I'm anti Rhody?

That makes zero sense.

Talk about being ass backwards.
They have a fanbase. I've gone to many games at Umass, and they treat our team and us like trash. I've never been around a worse fanbase...

I'm all for the A10 landing top recruits and being praised nationally but not Umass. Any other team in the A10 but Umass.

Of course, I have. They both have horrible fans but I know a handful of PC fans that are somewhat respectful of Rhody and I haven't met one Umass fan like that. We all have our own opinions. This is mine. I never want Umass to be better than us.

Well damn - he liked all those Frank Martin tweets and tweets about Martin...those damn tea leaves lied again!

This is another example of why over-analyzing social media activity is a fool's errand (more of a meta statement here since it was almost all UMass fans reading these particular tea leaves).

UNC was always the heavy favorite once Martin left South Carolina.
Martin offered Jackson once he took the UMASS job but really would have been a huge upset if Jackson chose UMASS.

I can’t fault any HC for aiming high, ie Lamar Odom.

Props to Martin for getting him to even consider Umass. UNC has been the favorite so I'm not surprised he picked them.

Jackson is from South Carolina and S.C. was in his final five from when Martin was there. Martin had recruited him for 3 years. So he added UMass because of his long relationship with Martin. He never visited to my knowledge.

I have no problem with Archie going the stealthy route when it comes to recruiting. In many cases transfers happen quick with no advance notice to the "out of the loop" types like most of us here.

I know it's causing various degrees of agita among this board, but I'm confident he will get enough commits to fill the roster.

As to whether they will all be his 1st choices is open to debate of course.

But I'm of the opinion that this rebuild will take a couple years to really bear fruit.

That's when he should be able to get at least a couple of impact freshmen in addition to transfers.

Plus the Covid Free Year. The Senior Class all got an extra year if they wanted it and it seems a lot more wanted it than initially expected. So these guys are 23 years old, stronger, experienced players. They helped to decrease the number of Freshmen making college rosters since the rosters stayed at 13. This decision for the Extra year will impact for 4 years as all 4 class levels got the Covid Free Extra Year.

As Kingston Lane says, being a freshman who shows promise in todays college basketball world can easily get recruited away, ie Jacob Toppin.

It’s even worse now because players can be bought with NIL PLUS no Sit-Out Rule.

It’s great now to make a conference Post Season All Rookie/Freshman team and go into the NIL “Auction”.

Grasso, Cooley and now Frank Martin get it. Transfers are older, stronger and proven against College Competition.

The Covid Extra year keeping many more players in College and the good chance of losing a Freshman player after their 1st year of play have hurt Freshman recruiting.

As an aside - I've been completely swamped at work as of late, so I haven't really had time to do individual recruit / transfer threads like we've done in the past. It definitely still helps if y'all want to create threads with an "empty" first post, so myself or someone else can circle back around to it later on. I'll eventually get to them, most likely at the end of next week and beyond, when I've cleared off a major project at work.

I think those offers were in 2020. He got hurt and was out his Jr year. By the videos from this year it looks like he injured his knee.

He missed his entire junior year at IMG academy. It was much more than a broken thumb. He broke his left arm compound fracture. He posted a video on YouTube about the incident and the recovery. If you want to watch it it is a good explanation of what happened.

Orangeville has a stud point guard named Jalik Dunkley-Distant. He's a sophomore 6'7" POINT guard. The film on him is very impressive.Waiting for an offer to him. His twin brother is also good and is a 6'6" guard.
