UMASS is looking at Schmidt, Frank Martin, Kimani Young, Holloway,

Schmidt has been in the conversation since Bamford talked about how they were increasing the HC Salary range.

Wouldn’t surprise me if Schmidt takes it. Closer to his North Attleboro hometown and family. Bonaventure losing their veteran starting line up.

If Schmidt leaves for UMass (doubtful) , wouldn't be surprised if Curran gets promoted to HC.

Frank Martin to Umass is good for the A10. Consider this the splash hire they needed. Keeps Schmidt at Bona which is good for league. Hopefully GW gets a solid hire.

And those particular 12 hours are probably the 12 hours during the week where the least amount of business typically gets done. Lot of dedication from the agent to field offers, negotiate and finalize terms all between midnight Saturday and noon Sunday. Good thing he isn’t being paid by the hour or his remarkable efficiency would be costing him a lot of money.

Yup, just goes to show how long these things are in the works.

San Fran lost in OT Murray St late in the night, and their coach was signed sealed and delivered to Florida the next day.

Like I said in another post, cannot blame kids for entering the portal when a coach leaves/gets fired.

These coaches are having back channel communications with other schools while coaching their current teams in the tournament.

No such thing as loyalty in sports anymore.

It isn’t the loyalty that bugs me as much as the focus. It’s all anecdotal, I guess, but I see stuff like the Seton Hall situation and it makes me very curious about where the coach’s and players’ focus and attention was leading up to the game. I’ve been stanning for Dan pretty hard here the last couple of days/weeks, but I’ll always wonder about our effort and energy against Duke in his last game, and whether that could have been more competitive if the circumstances were different. I remember how the rumors seemed to have sapped even the fans’ energy coming into the arena in Pittsburgh that day. I don’t know what you can really do about it, it just kind of stinks. On the other side of the coin, none of it really seems to be impacting Saint Peters so it’s obviously not insurmountable either.

Good off season for A10. a conference needs good coaches to be good. Hasn't been the case lately. Not sure about Pegues, though.

Interesting local choice. People have always spoken highly of him. Was a solid player out of Dematha. Coached in the same AAU organization as Coach Cox, and spent a long time at Xavier with Coach Mack before joining him at Louisville. Believe he also spent time at VCU.

I am glad that URI's effort to replace David Cox lasted only six days in the public realm. Cox was fired 03/11/22 and Archie Miller was confirmed the evening of 03/17/22. I imagine the small number of passionate UMass basketball fans must be going crazy. The school announced that McCall would not be returning on 03/01/22. It is approaching three weeks later and the job is still open with loads of speculation and conjecture continuing.

As we know you never know how a longtime assistant will do until he gets in that head chair , I hope it’s a good hire guess will find out in a few years

That’s the problem with search firms or committees. Thorr figured out who he wanted and got him.

If Umass was focused on Mark Schmidt all along, and they get him, that would explain the wait. If that tweet is true that the AD is in Oklahoma, does that mean it is not a done deal and they are still trying to convince him? Curious to see who Umass hires if not Schmidt. The fan apathy at Umass is bad and not just for basketball, especially among the students. The campus is about twice the size of URI, and they get maybe a fifth of the amount of students that URI gets to their games, maybe less. That would be a major detriment to many candidates but money talks, and it looks like they may pay up for this hire.

I think there are jobs that are better than Bryant, but not quite multiple bid, mid-major league quality jobs, that he could probably get. My thing with him has always been whether his success is sustainable, or if it's "just" because he managed to recruit Kiss. He's had two winning years, one "win big" year, so getting another winning season on his resume with different players would help. His teams have also been killed OOC, even this year - I'm not sure if that's because of his tactics, or because there's only so much you can do at Bryant.

LaSalle is hurting for money to the point where the entire school is hurting. Their enrollment is down 20% and their bond status was recently downgraded to junk bond levels.
