If we can just somehow conjure up whatever repentance is necessary for passing on him the last time .... that would be awesome.

Let’s go with the mediocre guy, from a mediocre conference, with a mediocre record, for the next 10 years. Great. Can’t wait. Think big. We Do.

When was the last time we were relevant? What are we waiting for? Why do we bother? Either we go for the gold or we don’t. Otherwise we’re all just fooling ourselves.

Um like 4 years ago. That’s not too long ago. We are the last A10 team to win a game in the tournament.KevanBoyles wrote: ↑2 years ago When was the last time we were relevant? Re: David Cox officially let go by URI (formerly, "Fire Cox")
Obviously you’re right but the point here is that he is making this argument in support of….hiring a former player who has never coached before lol. It’s legitimately one of the strangest and most nonsensical lines of argument I’ve ever seen. Like, it is to logic what gibberish is to English.bigappleram wrote: ↑2 years agoUm like 4 years ago. Re: David Cox officially let go by URI (formerly, "Fire Cox")
We need to be close to 1.5 mil to attract an Archie Miller type. Anthony Grant is making a little more then that after being a top 20 paid coach at Alabama. It would be a good investment and pay for itself if we get a coach who can come in and win quickly and also bring back some juice to the program. Archie hire would do that I think.Jersey77 wrote: ↑2 years agoThe big boosters can think all they want, but if they don't ante up, Thorr's hands will be tied.KingstonLane wrote: ↑2 years ago I do wonder what the big donors are thinking. I more so meant from the perspective of they are willing to ante up, but for who? If they say, “Thorr get me Rick Pitino Jr or kiss my annual funding goodbye” we’re in a shit spot.Jersey77 wrote: ↑2 years agoThe big boosters can think all they want, but if they don't ante up, Thorr's hands will be tied.KingstonLane wrote: ↑2 years ago I do wonder what the big donors are thinking. 4 years ago they didn’t get their way, but times were still good fresh off Hurley. They put up with it.
This time around moral around the program is low + not getting your way could be a bad snowball effect

Not sure if you were serious about Lamar.TrevlontRook3 wrote: ↑2 years agoPsshhh more like a trillion reasons why we should Mr. Snipy
First of all, I don't think he ever went back to earn his bachelor's degree, which is a requirement.
Aside from all his personal baggage, he never coached a day in his life.
I don't think Thorr and the powers to be would want to turn our program into a circus act.
Now, the new staff can bring him back in some capacity to work with players, if there is mutual interest.

with the exception of Mason, the list sucks elbows, I agree, we may as well have kept Cox for one more season. (Then go all in for slicky) I want a coach that wins right away and doesn't blame program turn-over for two years of shit, I'm old I don't have two years to wait and hang my hat on tiny little progressions.

The transfer portal is the pathway to immediate success. It’s time to dance(with the devil) and once again go with the guy that has won National Championships.
Ryan and other big boosters it’s time to pony up. I’m all in on buying out Iona. Let’s stick it to Friartown, uMass and the A10 - let’s be the big dawg in town, the number one story in college basketball.
All in on a couple years of Rick.
Time to win.
Get it done.

Re: David Cox officially let go by URI (formerly, "Fire Cox")
Quick question.
Do any of you watch any of the teams on this list or are you forming your opinion based on the name of their program??
John Becker is a much better head coach than Cox.
Langel is a much better head coach than Cox.
Grasso is a better head coach than Cox
Holloway is a better head coach than Cox
Listen, I want an Archie Miller type hire as well but keep David Cox? Absolutely not. Have some faith that Thorr will do his very best to find the right coach for this program.

Rick already posted that he's loyal to his team and his program. This isn't like Bar saying I have heard Archie is out. Rick Pitino said he's not leaving his team. So I have no idea why any of you keep bringing him up. We blew our chance of landing him when we hired David Coxhrstrat57 wrote: ↑2 years ago The transfer portal is the pathway to immediate success. Yes, I think he will be the head coach for Iona next season.... If he's going to leave, he's certainly not going to come to Rhode Island and turn down high major offers.. Re: David Cox officially let go by URI (formerly, "Fire Cox")
I can't understand why people are straight up dismissing some of these candidates. The logical next step for a lot of these guys is a move up to the A-10 or the American. Realistically, we are a spot for a young up and coming coach or a retread whoay have jumped up to a P5 too quick and has something left to prove. Look, Langel has done good at Colgate, Holloway at St. Peter's has been good. And remember the last time we took a coach from a school called Wagner. It worked out well.rhodyrudder wrote: ↑2 years ago Koch lists these 9 as possibilities:

A lot of people here have been put under a spell by Blueman that Archie is a realistic candidate. He is the 5% best case scenario, not what you should expect.
At a mid major like URI you should expect an up and comer from a lower tier conference or a reclamation project of a fired P5 coach. But know the guys in the latter category still have a lot of options
