Re: Here piggy, piggy! Tracking the A10 tournament PIG seeding
Last night:
UMass lost 83-71
St. Joe's lost 75-70
George Washington beat Duquesne 73-52
La Salle lost 90-64
Updated standings:
Fordham 4-8 (.333)
UMass 4-8 (.333)
Rhode Island 4-8 (.333)
St. Joe's 4-9 (.308)
La Salle 2-11 (.154)
Duquesne 1-11 (.083)
We're back into the PIG due to tiebreakers with Fordham and UMass. So far I've only tracked teams with losing conference records but pretty soon I will be dropping La Salle and Duquesne as well

Re: Here piggy, piggy! Tracking the A10 tournament PIG seeding
In yesterday's PIG action:
UMass beat La Salle 80-74
St. Joe's lost
We lost
Duquesne lost
Current standings:
UMass 5-8 (.385)
Fordham 4-8 (.333)
Rhode Island 4-9 (.308)
Saint Joseph's 4-10 (.286)
La Salle 2-12 (.143)
Duquesne 1-12 (.077)
In today's PIG action:
George Mason is at Fordham at 2:30 on USA
If we beat Duquesne (can't believe I have to put if at the front of that sentence) then that eliminates us from finishing in the basement. We have a 2.5 game lead on La Salle, plus we own the head to head tiebreaker, so we should finish ahead of them. We have a .5 game lead on St. Joe's, plus won the first matchup, but it might come down to the regular season finale between us and them to determine who's in the PIG and who's out. Fordham owns a .5 game lead on us going into today's action, but even if they lose they own the head to head tiebreaker against us, so we're going to finish the weekend in the PIG. UMass has a one game lead on us, but the season series was split, so that would go to extra tiebreakers if we end up tied.
Remaining PIG head to head matchups:
2/23 La Salle at Fordham
2/26 Duquesne at Rhode Island
2/28 UMass at Fordham
3/2 Saint Joseph's at La Salle
3/2 Fordham at UMass
3/5 La Salle at Duquesne
3/5 Rhode Island at Saint Joseph's
UMass and Fordham might sort out the top of these teams in their back to back games 2/28 and 3/2. Us and Saint Joe's each have a game against a fellow basement dweller before our regular season finale matchup.
Assuming no makeup date for the George Mason game is added it looks like the best we can now finish in conference is 7th. That means in David Cox' four years we've finished 8th (2 A10 tournament bids), 3rd, 10th (2 bids), and no better than 7th. David Cox now has a 33-33 conference record, but is 11-19 over the last two seasons

Just to give you an idea about the lack of interest from URI fans in going to the A-10 tournament in DC:

I believe that member schools must purchase a minimum number of packages to the A-10 Tournament. It would seem they face a financial loss if these are not sold. My guess is that URI is trying to minimize the potential monetary loss. This is not the first season that I have seen URI make overtures to other A-10 school fan bases for the the tournament. I actually feel bad for Tyler as it must be embarrassing and demeaning for him to have to take such action.

I posted before the season started that I could talk myself into seeing Rhody finish anywhere from 3rd to 9th. All that range and I’m still likely to be wrong?!

Re: Here piggy, piggy! Tracking the A10 tournament PIG seeding
I remember taking off work for Thursday and Friday of the A10 tournament in 2020. I was going Thursday to watch the games even though we had the bye. I would never imagine just two years later that I wouldn't even be thinking of watching a single game in the tournament, and not even watching the last couple games of the season before the tournament.
I hope whichever team wins the tournament this year also goes on to win a round in NCAA, but it looks like the A10 is taking another step backwards.

Updated standings to start the weekend:
George Mason 6-7 (.462)
Fordham 6-8 (.429)
UMass 5-9 (.357)
Rhode Island 4-10 (.286)
St. Joe's 4-11 (.267)
La Salle 2-13 (.133)
Duquesne 1-13 (.071)
Today's PIG games:
Duquesne at Rhode Island at 12:30 on USA
Dayton at La Salle at 2 on ESPN+
Fordham at Davidson at 2:30 on ESPN+
VCU at UMass at 4:30 on ESPN+
St. Bonaventure at St. Joe's at 6 on CBS Sports Network
If URI wins today the worst we can do is 12th place and I get to stop tracking La Salle and Duquesne, so I guess there is something to play for today after all

Re: Here piggy, piggy! Tracking the A10 tournament PIG seeding
UAss and FU play twice this week, so there are 2 guaranteed wins in the group.
FU closes with GW and Ass gets Mason.
If Rhody can beat StJoe, the 10 spot is very much in play.
Although by Saturday things may have changed.
We did not make up Mason, so a tie with anybody is really not possible. We’ll have an odd number of games.

Re: Here piggy, piggy! Tracking the A10 tournament PIG seeding
Updated standings:
8. George Mason 6-7 (.462)
9. Fordham 6-9 (.400)
10. Rhode Island 5-10 (.333)
11. UMass 5-10 (.333)
12. Saint Joseph's 4-12 (.250)
We currently own the tiebreaker over UMass in this situation. Our head to head record is 1-1, so it goes to the next tiebreaker, which is record vs. common opponent starting with the top of the A10 standings and working down until one team has an edge. We went 1-1 vs. Davidson, UMass went 0-1, so we have the edge and would be out of the PIG by the smallest of margins if the season ended today. Also of note, the only way St. Joe's can pass us is if we lose mid-week, they win mid-week, and then we lose the regular season finale to them. Any URI win or St. Joe's loss means the worst we can finish is 11th.
In today's action:
George Washington at George Mason at 2:30 on USA
If George Mason wins, we won't be able to catch them. In theory with the win the 8 seed would still be an outside possibility because George Washington would fall to that spot and then there would be a bunch of potential tie breakers that come into play

Unless UMass loses at Mason AND Rhody wins at St Joe, we open up in DC at 330 Wednesday in the 11-14 game with Duq.
They just lost at GW in 3OT.

I think they break it against us and win their last home game.
Hall, Funk, and Obinna will be the 3 best players on the court.
UMass will probably lose at GM
Most likely we play on Wed, what a disappointing season.

After flirting with the PIG in 3 of Cox' four seasons, we go down to the final day of the regular season to try and stay out of it, and we need help we don't even control our own destiny.
Saturday:
Rhode Island at St. Joe's at 1 on ESPN+. If we lose, we clinch 11 and the PIG. If we win:
UMass at George Mason at 4 on ESPN+. If we win and UMass loses we're 10. If UMass wins, we're PIG

I was there, and yes, it was a good time. Conference tournaments are fun when you know your team has a chance to compete for the title.steveystuds06 wrote: ↑2 years agoI had so much fun at that tournament even though we lost in the finals. It was an awesome trip
It has to be depressing to watch your team in that Wednesday session.

Re: Here piggy, piggy! Tracking the A10 tournament PIG seeding
The play in game round on Wednesday at the A-10 Tournament in DC should be renamed PENNSYLVANIA NIGHT. All three of the A-10 teams from PA are playing that night - Duquense, LaSalle, and St Joe's. URI is the only team not from the Keystone state. Rest assured however that Rhody is just as bad as them having earned the punishment of being in the PIG round.

Getting back to this earlier post:
Many of Tyler's posts trying to sell URI's allotment of tournament tickets at discount rates quickly disappeared from many of the other A-10 Fan Forums. That would mean that either the moderator or poster removed them. Given that the VCU post remains, I am going to assume that had Tyler taken the action, he most likely would have removed them from ALL the forums. I therefore think the moderators of the other forums removed the posts as they may not allow solicitations or did not want URI to undercut their own school's sales at a reduced rate. URI seems to have been offering packages at $500 less than many other A-10 members. I have to think that URI is taking a very big loss on tourney tickets this year as Ram fan demand has got to be very low. It is even probably losing money on the packages it sells to non URI fans as well. You can therefore add the A-10 Tournament ticket revenue loss to the Ryan Center ticket revenue loss for the 2021-22 season.

Ditto.. we had a blast at the games. Had a blast touring DC. Had a blast sitting at the bar chatting with Jeff dowtins dad. Had a blast sitting in the room with the team on selection Sunday. We were looking forward to having a blast again this year. Instead we will use the old Red Sox war cry. Wait till next year.steveystuds06 wrote: ↑2 years agoI had so much fun at that tournament even though we lost in the finals. It was an awesome trip

Won’t be in DC but will be rooting harder on Wednesday then I’ve been able to for most of the season. Will feel good to have a meaningful game for the team.
Obviously don’t expect much this week, but wouldn’t mind a couple wins for morals sake

We are going anyway. Loved the last time we were in DC, had a blast, found some great restaurants.ram1980 wrote: ↑2 years agoDitto.. we had a blast at the games. Had a blast touring DC. Have ZERO expectations for our team, but didn't want to cancel the trip.
I expect that we will be amongst the very few there. When I signed up for the reception, only 10 people had signed up

I'll be there as well, at least on Wednesday. Will probably sign up for the reception as well this evening.
