Getting a $10.3 million dollar buyout he is in no rush, not exactly destitute.

He will patiently wait until the right opportunity comes along, and it will.

Give me either of the Miller brothers next year if Cox gets fired.

Hired by whom? Why would he rush to a new job and settle for something?

He got a nice big payout check. He can sit it out and see what jobs open up in the future.

Cincy wouldn't be a bad landing spot for Archie, just down the road from Dayton where he spent 6 years.
Also not far from Indiana, and Cincy is in the AAC conference which is pretty damn good.
I actually think it looks like a good fit for both.

Sean Miller may be a good candidate also, since he spent time at Xavier.
The optics on him may not be very good currently, so not sure the timing is right.

According to the Indianapolis Star, Indiana will have to pay Miller more than $10 million over the next three years to buy out his contract. Dolson said “private philanthropic funding has been obtained for all transition costs and obligations related to the change in leadership.” Miller ranked 21st in the country in salary this season, making $3,350,000, according to USA Today.

Jim Ferry to UMBC. I remember people mentioning him as a possible successor to CFL early on in the push to get rid of him. While logical at the time, interesting to see him in the time since coach at Duquesne, Penn State (interim) and now UMBC.

Your post made me wonder, "Hey, what the hell has Pat Skerry been up to?" And the answer is a rollercoaster ride of W-L chaos at Towson.

I like Skerry, but Towson has been hit hard by transfers. People like Justin Gorham would have been a huge piece for Towson, left, in his case he ends up starting for Final 4 Houston, Allen Betrand transferring to us etc... Make sure to look up the saga of Zane Martin.

Would make a lot of sense given Murray grew up just over the border in NY and went to college in CT at Fairfield. He also has previously worked on Hurley's staff at two schools - Wagner and URI.

Saw this a couple days ago, over $1M/year for 4 years guaranteed, to keep an assistant basketball coach. Wow

This after Kentucky loses top recruiting assistant to Bobby Hurley.

Think about this for a second - Illinois is prepared to pay ONE assistant coach more than TWO TIMES the ENTIRE assistant staff salary pool of URI.

Doesn't hurt. Plenty of non FBS schools have top tier basketball programs that pay market rate for the full coaching staff, though. It's really hard to come up with a better return on investment than good recruiters on staff. Even the ones you get on their way up leave for better pay. You won't get a guy to turn down 3x salary at a high major but you can certainly match something like what Preston Murphy got ($250k guaranteed for two years) at BC. Worse, because you can't be competitive with salary, the bad ones stay. Coming up with $500k more per year for recruiters will lead to more revenue down the line.

And yet, Marquette has one of the largest Men's Basketball budgets in the country. And many of the Big East schools seem to compete nicely with their BCS counterparts.

I think this is a really accurate statement of how most programs are missing the mark on assistant coaches. If you consistently want to be a top 40 program your top assistant needs to be making over $300k. It should be more then the salary of a low-end D1 head coach job. Increasing the assistant pool to $750k would do more for the program then paying over $750k for a head coach.

We all know the Big East schools get $5 Million each year, so that's a good start for schools without football to fund.

I feel like Mooney has been on the "Hot Seat" for the past 10 seasons.
He's an interesting case. There seems to be a group of Richmond fans that want to get rid of him. He's typically in these pre-season articles. Yet his name will pop up for bigger jobs as well. The style of basketball they play could be considered unappealing, but his teams are typically united, play tough and seem to enjoy playing for him. Each season they seem to win a few games that they shouldn't, but inevitably they lose a few that they shouldn't.

Richmond would of probably "Danced" in 2019-2020 finishing 2nd in the A10, unfortunate for Mooney.
With his senior stars returning and most of his roster back and healthy, they should have no excuses this season, and will be a co-favorite to finish atop of the A10.
If all goes as expected for them, the additional year of eligibility will probably save his job.
