If you’re gonna blame Carey for the foul, blame Harris for not boxing out and allowing the offensive rebound as well.

Don’t pick and choose who to criticize.

Ugly win, but a win is a win. One of these games, they are going to put it all together and it will be beautiful. For now, just enjoy the flashes.

There is no magic elixir. They are what they are. Very talented, but don't play like a cohesive unit. They just out athletic'ed the Bonnies, helter skelter style. They just need to get that little bit better each game, and not take any steps back

URI's athleticism prevailed, but it seemed like the only difference in this one was the Bonnies were not quite as disciplined/made a few more mistakes than Davidson.

At some point, maybe you say, start Shep and Ish and see what they can do at the beginning of the game together. Might see some better cohesion early on, set the tone of the game.

Not going to beat too many teams with the amount of turn overs and missed FTs like today. But I’ll take it. We really needed a W any way we could get one

Gonna need to play a whole hell of a lot better if we’re going to split down in VA against Richmond and VCU.

And yes, Jermaine looked better today. Jeremy scored this game, so that’s a good look too. But yo....turnover after turnover...defensive lapses all over the place...intensity still looks low...still toooo many guys playing (can’t play 9-10 dudes)...etc

I would buy the "odd man break" excuse earlier in the season, but he's been calling timeouts like that all year. I actually was ok with the timeout thinking he was taking Mitchell out, but I was wrong..

I'm happy for any win but that looked like the same team that lost to Davidson. Maybe Bonnies had an off night, but our conference is much worse than I thought if that team is 4th in the A10.

Fatts is still allowed to shoot as many bad shots as he wants and play 30+ minutes. Carey is still allowed to get out hustled and play for 25 minutes. Ish is still stuck playing 15 mins.. The team still looks lackadaisical

I thought Shep, Walker, and Harris all had great games. Martin was solid as well. He looks much better than earlier in the year. As we all know, this team is loaded with talent.

At the end of the day, we took care of business, which is much better than a loss. Go Rhody!

The stupid stuff was mostly repeated stupid stuff today, hard to watch but too bad. A good coach should show no mercy with a tape like that. Imagine Bill Belichick or Bobby Knight with a tape like that - yikes!

72 pointed out the stunning gaff of fouling up 8 with 18s left. I coached 14 yo’s who didn’t have to be told not to do that.

Great CYO story earlier 105. I had 27 points in a Cadet game in a low ceiling gym like that. I just stood in the corner and made 10 deep balls. 4 seven minute quarters nobody ever covered me. The older we get the better we used to be lol...

A rare sighting?
  • Harris was the 1st player off the bench for Cox
  • Harris played 26 minutes - 4th highest for the team
  • Perfect offensively 3-3 FG, 2-2 FT
  • Harris a Game High Tied for Rebounds with 10 (Walker also had 10)
  • Harris with 1 assist, 1 block, 1 steal, 2 TOs
  • He helped to hold arguably the best center in the A10, Osunniyi, to 8 points, 4-12 FG, only 4 rebounds, 2 TOs, 27 minutes and he fouled out
  • URI has been out-rebounded 302 to 277 in 8 games (37.8 to 34.6 rpg) Today URI 42 Rebounds to 29 for SBU - huge difference maker
  • Harris and Walker with 10 rebounds each in 26 and 27 minutes respectively

Players who keep making stupid plays need to sit.

24 turnovers.

Yep, a bad team beat a worse team today.

People keep talking about how talented we are.

Maybe physically we are, but not in the space between their ears. Some not as much as others, of course.

It's up to the staff to correct this if at all possible.

However, the coach keeps making the same mistakes too.

Mid pack A10 might be too kind right now. Maybe because most of the league stinks.

We are MILES from being good.

At their current level of play, a .500 record seems about right.

St. Bonaventure will be top 6 in the league this year. That was an upper third win. It was ugly as hell, but we won. That is what good teams do. We are on our way. IF we clean it up, we could be a great team.

Good game from him let’s see if he can keep it going.

We had almost 2 weeks to prepare for this game. It was obvious that after playing a lot of games in the first week at Mohegan that one thing we needed was a lot of practice time. Cox said that with this extended break and multiple days of practice without games, that they would be going back to basics and working on fundamentals. Did that look like a fundamentally sound team? Either we have players who are unable to learn fundamentals or a coaching staff that is not good at teaching them. Take your pick.

I don’t know, I thought I saw the team attempt to play a little more in control, they just aren’t clicking yet together. Some good passes that were missed by the recipients on several possessions, just the kind of plays that come with playing together more minutes. If they are still playing this way in mid January then we have a problem (either coaching or players), but this was a good win against a very solid team.

One of the most important fundamentals of basketball is taking care of the ball. We failed miserably at that today.

If we keep winning, I’d take ugly basketball all year long. I don’t mind the 10 man rotation. Cox did a decent job of subbing in consistently. Personally, I would reduce Carey’s minutes a bit and give them to Martin and Betrand.

I didn't watch the game, but looks like DJ may currently be the odd man out. After averaging almost 18 minutes through the first 8 games, only played 5 minutes today. Unless he got banged up, Cox had him on a short leash and with the strong play of Walker and JH his minutes may continue to dwindle.

Maybe I am reading too much into it.

.......for me a problem is with playing so many players, in the current style, the minutes on the floor to get in sync, used to each other(whatever you want to call it) is just not there.....this was not our second game......shorten the rotation, give the minutes to those that make the team concept better, and not hope/wait for a single player with big headlines to get hot and try to carry the team alone......

Harris and Walker getting 10 rebounds each, and I'll add in the 6 rebounds by Carey represented 26 or our 42 rebounds. Bonnies only had 29.
So our 2 big men in Harris and Walker came up big today and, as all winning teams do, they offset some of the shortcoming areas like excessive turnovers.

He got pulled for a bad sequence of pulling from three super early in the shot clock and then goaltending to give an and 1. Idk if anyone else noticed but that was like his 10th goaltend this year so prob a point of contention

As bad as URI looked today, the rest of the A10 looked somehow worse so things may be ok after all

The turnover situation has to be fixed. Many of them are unforced...some of them are from guys not having familiarity and chemistry with each other. But majority of them aren’t that. Empty trips are a killer, especially bc we have guys that can score it. Most are of the careless or forced variety and can be corrected.

Beyond the identity issue, which we still lack, DCs use of his personnel is his biggest job this year and still some head scratchers out there...Carey over Ish in final minute when they are fouling? Taking Twan out, arguable your best rebounder, when all we need is a stop and a board.

Funny some guys said “I’ll be the first to scream from the rafters when Jermaine plays well...” Well, that was his best game as a Ram, by a lot. Let’s hope it gives him some confidence and we see that consistently.

Glad URI found a way to win!
It was ugly though, but I'll take it.
24 Turnovers
60% Free Throw Percentage (ehh)
Dismal from 3pt.
Team appeared very undisciplined to me.Very sloppy ball & a lot to clean up. I'm very surprised that some guys like Carey & Johnson haven't found a rhythm & begun to assert themselves as being a steady contributor in some kind of role offensively. It seems like guys are still figuring out how to play together. Fatts has got to be a distributor in my opinion at this point. The rest of the team needs to start gelling & that only happens when guys start sharing the ball, in my opinion. Then guys start developing more confidence in themselves & each other and you begin to see a team that can do some great things. Once other guys start getting more points & start cutting to the basket more & start understanding each others tendencies, Fatt's points will come as teams start to have to focus on more than just him or Sheppard.
The team with Hassan, Jarvis, E.C., Terrell, & Stan was a team full of guys who knew their rolls & how to play to their strengths. Jarvis wasn't the most prolific 3pt shooter, but he made it appear that way at times because he took a lot of his 3pt shots from the very top/middle of the 3pt arch. You could see he owned that spot. He was comfortable with that 3pt shot and nailed it pretty consistently from that one spot and it worked wonders for him & the team.
Hass knew he had a short & midrange game & stuck with it.
I really hope Cox can start making some decisions about the line up & match ups in a way that with bring some consistency from game to game. It seems to me these guys need to start finding their rolls & sweet spots sooner rather than later if they want to have a great season because 24 turnovers & around 20%+/- from 3pt will lose them a lot of games.
On a positive note, they are fouling teams a bit less on average than they did at the beginning of the year (about 6 - 9+ fouls less per game). Keeping it under 20 fouls a game is a good thing.

Sorry this is not a team. This is a collection of individuals and this game was like a street game - bad passes, no coordination, no flow and bad decision making. Is this the performance we get after a 12 day layoff? With 1/3 of season now history, this team has no identity and no leadership and Fatts has become a sophomore again.
