It will be interesting to see if Fatts and Sheppard are compatible on the court at the same time with only one basketball.

I was wondering the same thing! After seeing the Sheppard video, looks like he can shoot the 3 pretty well...then again, I never missed any in my highlight video either ;)

I want him in there as a zone buster.

Still hard to see where his minutes come.

My guess is that he comes in situationally.

IMO at this point Johnson remains one of the greatest mystery student athletes in my very long experience following the program.

Don't think I've seem him miss a shot in warmups. A modern Joe Zaranka but he played a bit- never missed in warmups either, deadly.

It is very puzzling indeed.

I have two people that are close to the program who have seen him play and know for a fact from speaking with people. He is athletic and has a decent shot. He has played against low level competition and has hardily dominated. People who see him on a regular basis have said he will not play at this level and has trouble on the defensive end. When is the last time you have seen him or someone that claims he will be a factor? I will trust these people just as others have said that they will just coaches over fans on the board. If I am wrong I will take it on the chin. People said that Aris and others were going to be good just because they were signed by URI. He is the number 13 player on the roster.

He won’t play significant minutes but he will spell something guys for 5-7 minutes. He will be a situational player.

If I said I had watched a lot of his games at junior college I would be a liar. I have seen highlights which are useless and base my opinions on what I have been told from people who know the situation with Johnson and have watched him play. We have a lot of talented players on the roster that will need playing time. Also if he was ready we would have had him on the roster with such a thin team-although this isn’t entirely fair with several players we thought would contribute leaving. Hope I’m wrong and he has somehow improved, but there are a lot of players that are ahead of him.

I thought the main reason Johnson was red-shirted was because he was so thin and they wanted to put him in the weight room for a year.

We’ve been fortunate to not be hit by the injury bug the last few years. Depth could play a factor as we move forward in any given year. Although he looks to be the 12th man-ish, he could play a number of positions so he may have a chance to get some minutes.

Here are a few possible scenarios for minutes:

40 min per game.
12 man rotation:
5 Starters - (say 2 get 28min & 2 get 24min & 1 gets 20min)
7 Bench guys - (say 1 gets 18min, 1 gets 15min, 1 gets 12min, 2 get 10min, 1 get 6min, 1 gets 5min)

11 man rotation:
5 Starters - (say 2 get 28min & 2 get 24min & 1 gets 20min)
6 Bench guys - (say 1 gets 18min, 1 gets 17min, 1 gets 13min, 1 gets 12min, 2 gets 8min)

10 man rotation:
5 Starters - (say 2 get 28min & 2 get 24min & 1 gets 20min)
5 Bench guys - (say 1 gets 18min, 2 gets 17min, 2 gets 12min)

Minutes during 2016-17 season for comparison:

Let’s see. Everyone that was a worthwhile player that was on last years team is gone or will be going (Harris) and he is either going to make money or go win on an NCAA team. This is not an NCAA team. Why would he come back to play we all new guys on a middle of the pack A-10 team

I have no interest in rooting for a pick up team. That's what it's become. What are the odds that Ish Leggett and Tres Berry leave after one year or two now? I'd say that since 7 out of 8 from the last 2 classes are gone (87%), the odds are very high. We just said goodbye to 2 of our greats, Jeff Dowtin and Cyril Langevine. I became a big fan of the two because i watched them grow as players and as men for 4 years. I say the same of all of our greats from the past. If roster turnover is going to be like this every year, I'm out. I'll always hope we do well, because it's my school. But it's hard to become excited about individual players who will only be here for a year or two and that includes incoming transfers. Boy, does this suck.

A bigger question that Rothstein and others should raise it why would you push the NBA Draft back from June to August or later when the NFL just completed its Draft this weekend as originally planned with no delay? And the NFL Season starts sooner than the NBA?

I think Fatts has the mentality and self-confidence to be "the guy" much more than any of the guys that have left the program. He will be the unquestioned leader of the team next year. It's also possible that like many college seniors he has made great friendships and is looking forward to another great year of his life. Hopefully the NCAA will come to realize that indecisive is akin to inept and get the change to the transfer rule decided one way or another so Cox can fill out the roster for next year one way or another.

With out the no penalty transfer rule going through , even with Fatts we are
going to be hard pressed to compete with the upper half of the A10.
Teams are going to kill us inside if they get us into foul trouble.
We desperately need another serviceable big who is eligible immediately
next season just in case our transfers aren't eligible. .

If the rule does not pass we will so far be replacing Cyril, Tyrese, Jacob and Long with just DJ as far as frontcourt players for 20-21 season. I expect improvement from Harris and Walker but we would need at least one other impactful big or we would just get abused inside when they are not in the game. The NCAA really needs to get their act together so teams are not flying blind into next season.

The purpose I think is to brand and Market our guys. I think that was missing since Hurley left. He is the ultimate sales guy to the media. Entire country knew ECs name. This is a start to rebuilding the brand.

Did people know EC's name because Dan marketed them and sent out cool Twitter and Instagram videos, or because he was at URI for five impactful seasons and as one of the key players on two NCAA Tournament teams? I don't think people around the country care about no-name (being intentionally facetious) players who have never played a game for URI and are not highly-regarded (Top 25 recruit, potential all-conference/AA, etc.). There may be a bigger picture marketing piece, but I just have a hard time buying that the country knew EC's name because Hurley was "the ultimate sales guy to the media."

I wouldn't use Adam Zagoria as the benchmark for this conversation. Zagoria is a Hurley family media puppet.

Who else besides Adam Zagoria and maybe the local beat guys were pumping EC's tires before stepping on campus?

I guess I'll have to take your word on it.
