Re: Ivy to Cancel Tournament
A lot of events are going to be cancelled over the next couple of months.
Waiting to see how big this is going to get in this country, before things can get back to normal at some point.

I kind of see both sides: while "sheltering in place" seems prudent right now, what happens if this really blows up by the end of the semester at which point the government puts in restrictions on interstate travel? Then the students are stuck on campus and can't go home for the summer.rhodylaw wrote: ↑4 years agoI think this is correct - the prudent move would have been to cancel spring breakRhody74 wrote: ↑4 years agoAgree. Dispersing possibly infected persons even wider? It would’ve made more sense keeping them together.theblueram wrote: ↑4 years ago
So they have to fly home? WTF is that? Probably be safer in Cambridge for sure.
UMaine is fairly isolated geographically and there have been no cases reported in the state yet, so for their situation it seems like a sound decision to keep dorms open and encouraging students to stay: https://bangordailynews.com/2020/03/10/ ... -outbreak/
Not sure it works for every school's situation though.

The NCAA Tournament is going to be facing a dilemma in the state of Ohio where the four play in games are in Dayton and a first weekend pod (6 games) is in Cleveland. Ohio Gov. DeWine has recommended sports without spectators and all other gatherings should be minimized. His requests has already resulted in the cancellation of political rallies by Biden and Sanders that had been scheduled last night in the state ahead of its presidential primary next Tuesday.

At this rate I can see the NCAA tournament being played without fans. NBA is doing the same now.

Re: Ivy to Cancel Tournament
URI has just cancelled classes for the next several weeks. Students are being asked not to return to their dorms until at least April 3rd.
It would appear that if URI hosts an NIT game, no spectators will be allowed per this part of the press release:
Beginning Wednesday, March 11, currently scheduled intercollegiate events will compete as scheduled, however, fans will be prohibited from attending and only players, coaches and essential staff of the teams will be authorized to attend the events.

I wonder when the A-10 and all other conferences will announce no more fans the rest of the weekend.

As a current member of the pep-band, it has been forwarded to us that the A10 is meeting tonight to discuss future plans and it is almost certain that they will follow the NCAA example and proceed only with teams and essential personnel.
