THE EARLY LINE URI VS DAYTON

Unread post by luke »

The opening line is out and the number is Dayton - 4 . A very low number considering how Rhody is playing right now . But it is important
to remember that every game is an entity in itself and URI could have a game like they had against VCU . We haven't seen them have that
type of game since the VCU game , so who knows ?

Given our recent play in the last five games, I have very low expectations for tomorrow.

4 points seems way too low. They must not have watched the last five URI games

I stopped betting on us a couple years ago. Might have to throw some money out there for this though, sadly will not be putting it on Keaney Blue. Although if they win and I lose money I'll still be ecstatic.

This rationale doesn’t make sense. If games were analogous to the last effort, then there would be no point in playing them.

I bet games all the time. It is phrase that means it is hard to imagine betting on URI +4 points. Obviously the spreads are generated through computers and manipulated to the casinos.

Spreads are adjusted by the amount of money bet on each side of the opening line

If you think its too low and you think it will go higher because you want to take URI then wait till tomorrow.

3 points for home court advantage

So would be +7 points neutral court, +10 points at Dayton. Sounds about right for 2nd place team in the conference. But no way I’m taking URI at +4, +5, +6......
Would have to to go to +10 before I’d even consider

I have not put a bet on a URI game since Baron was the coach, I literally funded 1 of my kids college education from the Baron era. This game is begging for an extremely large sized wager on the road team if this line stays anywhere near 4, something is extremely suspicious about that line.

Line at Dayton was URI +10.5

So given 3 points for home court swings that spread to +4.5 points

Probably not far off

I think this paints the perfect picture of the challenge of making NCAA tournament out of smaller conference compared to p5 + Big East.

Using the Big East as an example: this line tells me is there’s not a team in that conference that would be favored by more than 4 points in Kingston. In a 20 game conference schedule that means you get 5-7 chances at big time wins where you’re either the favorite or slight underdog. The other home games should be 6–8 point favorites in Q2 games. Knock off a few games on the road coupled with a decent OOC and you’re dancing.

And don’t play any OOC games on the road - unless they are must games because leagues play against one another like Big 10 - Big East Challenge - otherwise no road games allowed.

All I can say is this team better get their heads on right. The defense has been really bad and that needs to end.

It's not the defense, it's Fatts getting double and triple teamed out high once he starts his penetration and there being no easy finish and no answer by Cox to figure this out. !!! Been going on for at least 10 games. Coaches watch films

(How about Tyrese setting the screen for Fatts a few times.)

This line has given me confidence we actually have a shot here. Dayton was briefly -3.5 from -4.

As a very average gambler I would typically see this line and put a stupid amount of money on Dayton and call it a lock ... but this smells like a trap game.

Maybe we have a chance...

Davidson put Grady on Russell whole game. Inexplicably Cox has Russell covering Gudmunsson. Wasn’t consistent.
Saint Louis has Freshman Yuri Collins in Russell in the first half, but then The very physical Jordan Goodwin on Russell the second half.
Everyone knows Russell is going to drive down the middle. Guys near the middle are slapping at the ball as he drives in and sometimes setting up for the offensive foul
His quickness is his greatest asset but teams are adjusting to his quicknesss better now than before.
Russell is passing back out from the middle better and more frequently than earlier in the season but needs to pass out more as teams are bottlenecking middle on him. It’s like everyone knows what he is going to do.

Line was +10.5 at Dayton
Now +4 and some +3.5

Get 3 points normally for home court so +10.5 should be +4.5

But it’s Senior Night, near Sell out crowd, ESPN do maybe that gets the additional point.

Betting problem is Dayton is playing very well, playing for a number 1 seed, URI is not playing well.

I’ll not go near this game. Anything is possible

URI desperately needs a win to keep NCAA hopes alive. URI is like a cornered, wounded animal right now, desperate. They must play like that. Takes chances, play very aggressive pressing defense throughout - not just last 6 minutes of game. Must play unselfish, leave the hero ball in the dorm room. Pass well and often. Create offense from the defense. Get good rebounding position before the shot goes up - rebounding was a disaster vs Saint Louis and could be a repeat tonight. Must hit a high percentage of Three Point Shots vs Dayton.

I agree that Vegas has set this up as a trap game. They are willing to let money come in on Dayton. Who would realistically put money on URI with way they have played lately and the injuries. They always talk about the home team getting 3-4 points. It isn’t true. At that point in the season with the way things have gone Dayton would be laying -12 at home. Take a look at how high the spreads are when Duke plays at home compared to if they played the same team on the road or when there is a team with a great college basketball home advantage that is bad on the road.

Bet the house. Bet the car. Sounds like a gift.

I’m staying far, far away from this game.

Wouldn’t surprise me if we win the game by 10. Would surprise me I’d we lose the game by 20. Anything is possible in this match up of A-10 Elite Teams.

I think it will be very exciting, a great atmosphere. Great basketball and superior athletes.

I’m not betting this game. The only way I would ever do it is if it was Dayton on the moneyline and I would be very happy to lose the money with a URI win. You know if I bet Dayton -4, URI would lose a spirited game by 2-3 and I would be devastated by a close URI loss and lose money on top of it. I’m hoping for a much more spirited effort from URI on senior night
